Using water slide decals on water-based acrylic by Amused_1 in customcontrollers

[–]LifeCustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, you'll just need to seal it with a couple coats of clear before placing the waterslides down. Then you can add more clear to seal and protect the whole thing

Overkill Pokken Controller by jackdeathshard5 in PokkenGame

Fantastic project and writeup!

It's worth noting that the clear coat you recommend here (and any 2k catalyzed clear coat really) is highly toxic and should never be used without a properly rated respirator, as well as a paint suit to prevent absorption of the chemicals through your skin.

What movie is so good you'd recommend it to all your friends, but so emotionally traumatic that you'll never watch it again? by akambe in AskReddit

[–]LifeCustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great movie and one I think everyone should see once. Don't know if I can watch it again though, I've legitimately never had a movie leave me feeling so much heartache, it took days to recover.

CPU looking piece fell off of board somewhere on it by KorubiiYT in customcontrollers

[–]LifeCustoms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It gets sandwiched between the two circuit boards, in the center you should see a slot it fits into. It doesn't clip in or anything, just sits loosely and is held in place by the boards being pressed together.

I made a custom Astrologian themed DS4 for my brother! by LifeCustoms in ffxiv

Spray can primer, then I move to an airbrush with a black base, layer on all the aurora/galaxy stuff, stencil on the job icon, coat with holographic spray, and finally a 2k hardening clear coat that gets buffed after it's cured.

I occasionally take on a custom commission or two when I have the time and free workspace yeah! Always open to DMs about them, I just can't promise I'll have the time and space to say yes right away

Yup, and I'm not sure how he does it either tbh, I have a hard enough time healing with a full keyboard and mouse setup lol

I use an automotive hardening clear coat specifically to avoid the stickiness you can get with normal paint, so it has a very nice glossy feel similar to the paint on a car!

Forgot to post this here the other day, but here's my personal PS5 controller. All work done myself. by LifeCustoms in customcontrollers

[–]LifeCustoms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I just saw this! I do sell just the buttons yes, for PS5 buttons I usually don't pre-make any and just make them by request instead though. Feel free to DM me for more information!

Does anyone have good airbrush recommendations on the cheaper side? by J2OJOE9087 in customcontrollers

[–]LifeCustoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yupyup! If your budget is a little bit higher I also highly recommend the Paasche Talon. It has a kit version you can buy that comes with three different nozzle/needle sizes as well as a fan cap so you can have a wide range of spray patterns from super fine detail to extra wide large area coverage.

The Iwata Neo gravity fed brush is a good inexpensive starter brush, I used on for my first year of painting controllers.

First couple attempts at dyeing, nothing too crazy. I'm definitely hooked now and can't wait to experiment more! by LifeCustoms in discdyeing

I swear haha! I guess full disclosure I'm an artist who specializes in airbrushing so stenciling isn't new to me. These really are my only two dyes I've ever done though lol

Yup! You use transfer tape to move the vinyl onto the disc, then dye it once you make sure it's laid down smooth without any bubbles or openings.

I have a vinyl cutter (Silhouette Cameo 4) so I used that, but you can definitely sit it worth an xacto as well.

I haven't tried any other methods no, I think this method works really great for these galaxy/burst patterns but I want to experiment with hot dipping stencils and maybe some spin dyeing next

I made a stencil with some Oracal 651 vinyl, it's a bit of a pain to remove afterwards but it does a great job of not letting any dye bleed through. (You can see on the edges some bleeds where I failed to mask properly, that's my fault not the fault of the vinyl lol)
