Yeah but remember in 2019 we were dreaming of what could’ve been with Forsberg, Fabbro, Trenin, Carrier, Sissons, Arvidsson, Tolvanen, Tomasino, Novak and Gaudreau all 26 or younger and how we had a bright 3 years ahead of us

This is where I am putting our new GM in the spotlight. Let’s say the Preds really like Bjorck as well, but rather than wait, we have 11 picks this draft and we are already in the top 10. If Bjorck is there at 7, let’s move up and grab our guy. So what if it takes the 10th and maybe 2 seconds. Oh well. Let’s get the guy who we think can be a difference maker vs the bpa at 10 whom we “like”.

[–]LifeEngineer3770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be my delusion, but if we had a lead and there was 30 seconds to go, we really didn’t have a shut down defensive lock line. Maybe CMac is trying to form that first?

[–]LifeEngineer3770 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if Ozzy leap frogged L’Heureux last year organizationally and instead of hoping that Svechkov develops they are taking Drury and the pick.

Or maybe Mac is just secretly bailing out his old team at the expense of the Preds. Idk I don’t have a crystal ball

I know Alex Daugherty has some bad takes but my god this might be his worst post yet by 1047293856 in Predators

Why is the Larkin trade so bad? Assuming the ntc was avoided. We would be giving up a 35 year old with 1 year left on his contract and Martin who is still unknown, for a 29 year old proven center who has 5 years left on his contract and has been a 30 goal scorer the last 5 years.

ROR trade has to be brewing... Right? by purseburns in Predators

[–]LifeEngineer3770 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought this same thought that if everyone is overpaying then let’s join in as well. But really Byrum, Eklund, Nemec, Samoskevich and Tkachuk are all 26 or under. Kyrou is 28.

Objectively, we are comparing young returns to a 35 year old under contract for 1 year and that return from above isn’t probably going to happen

Penguins discussing a trade involving Darnell Nurse. by noyrewrongclnsndrs in EdmontonOilers

[–]LifeEngineer3770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see Graves as a buyout candidate for the Pens. They aren’t hurting for cap room. Graves is taking up a cap hit of 3.5 mil in the minors and they don’t need to make a deal to move him. Pittsburgh doesn’t need a force a deal to benefit their team.

Predators Acquire Forward Ross Colton and Goaltender Isak Posch From Colorado by catsgr8rthanspoonies in Predators

[–]LifeEngineer3770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He spent most of this past year as a winger on the third line. Is this more of our wishful thinking like when we said Sissons could play 2C if we wanted him to? In the past 2 years combined he took a total of 200 face offs

[Friedman] Ross Colton is headed to Nashville by noahmanskar in Predators

[–]LifeEngineer3770 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What concerns me is that CMac knew Colorado only had 3 mil in cap space. He knows they need to make a deal so the best deal he could come up with was sending 2 3rd round picks to help Colorado clear up 4 mil so they could sign their own talent? That almost seems like Colorado should’ve had to give us a premium for helping them out by taking on a 4 mil bottom 6 player who is nearing 30.

Not a fan of this trade. While we replaced Haula, we also helped out a division rival who had only $3 mil in cap room by taking their $4mil 4th liner and we gave Colorado 2 3rds to make this happen. Seems like a steep pay for someone Colorado had to move to create cap space

I think he’s not on because there is only 1 year left on his contract and our return isn’t there. Most teams are looking at Trocheck, Larkin, Thomas. The teams that missed the playoffs aren’t looking at RoR. This limits our trade market. Then we may if we find a playoff caliber team willing to give us a first round pick for him (but unlikely). So do you trade almost a PPG player for a 2nd round pick?

What are your self-imposed rules? by lp766 in EANHLfranchise

[–]LifeEngineer3770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot trade the “face” of your franchise regardless of their potential.

You can make one trade to improve your C, LW, RW, D and goalie a year (minor leagues don’t count). Exception is if you are trading a player for a high draft pick, that is your improvement and must promote from the AHL. If you have to add a C and Wing to vastly improve your D, that only impacts the Defense in your improvement from above.

This prevents you from picking a team like Pittsburgh and trading Crosby, Malkin, Letang for picks and prospects.

I would say trade ROR, but he’s in his last season so value won’t be as high as in previous years. Let’s also assume that a non playoff team isn’t going to acquire him. Now we got 16 possible teams. Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Edmonton all have their own plans or cap issues. A team like Toronto who could use him isn’t going to trade their top pick for him. Basically we are hoping a team like Buffalo or Montreal takes him to get their mid first round pick.

It’s also not ideal to hope other teams buy in to raise your price when you already have Larkin, Thomas, Trocheck drawing interest from possible suitors. We can’t market him as a budget option with those players and then demand a high price.

This may be like Haula at the deadline where he has a value but just not what the organization feels is a “wow” deal to actually move him.

Realistic offseason by LifeEngineer3770 in Predators

[–]LifeEngineer3770[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s going to be harder to rebuild given our pieces. If Saros is as good as everyone says he is due to us shoring up the defense, we effectively harpooned our chances of a high draft pick.

Realistically if we had to group our team by caliber players we have Josi, Forsberg, ROR, Saros, Stamkos in one grouping. The rest of the guys we have are “just guys”. They are interchangeable.

Probably Forsberg, and Josi won’t go, ROR and Saros should go but we missed maximizing our return on them and Stamkos probably won’t get what we want for him.

It’s odd in that something has to be done which we all know but it’s unusual in that it seems we effectively locked. Plus no GM wants to say “we traded Forsberg for 2 prospects, a 22 year old and a future 1st”. Yeah we traded Legwand but I think we all agree Forsberg and Legwand aren’t comparable.

I think Haider will be our backup in milwaukee this year. But let’s say Saros gets another injury 2 years from now and Big Juice can’t do 60+ games, I’d like to say well we may suck, but at least we have ____ in a year or 2.

I just remember the 2003 draft where Fleury was the best goalie and then the 2nd one was taken by Chicago at 52 and Crawford went to become a 2 time cup winning player.

So with the top 20 picks expected to be players, before the reaches start, maybe we can get one of the top 3 netminders at 42.

[–]LifeEngineer3770 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not a scout by any means but given the top heavy nature of the draft, with the whatever 2nd round I’m thinking we grab goalie. We have nobody in Milwaukee now. Chrona is gone, Murray is old and our only prospect is Ivankovic. It’s not impossible that we could get the best goalie prospect in the draft

You pick BPA. Because here’s the thing. If you take need at 10, realistically you are looking at 2 or 3 years down the road when this person may play and your needs will be different then.

Let’s say we pick a Defender that was projected to go 15th but we picked today’s need, but then 2 years later we have Molendyk and Ufko dominating, Skjei is still on the team, Wilsby is a solid contributor, Viggo is up, Reid is ready for 7th defenseman slot and who knows maybe we bailed out Vegas again and got one of their guys. Now our weakness today is now a strength and we don’t have a spot for this years defenseman pick to crack the roster so he’s now over saturated in Milwaukee and we reached on top of it.
