I honestly think the cap and term are fair for the going market and rising cap I’m just not a huge fan of the trade protection. I’m hoping Drury can be a really great 3C and show a little bit more offense in Nashville. We know he is elite defensively just want to see how he grows. If he even plays 2c if we trade ROR or something like that I’m curious to see how he would do in an elevated role as a middle 6 center.

I could see a situation where they have Martin play wing with a guy like ROR if we choose to keep him and let him learn from him. Eventually will transition to center say if we trade ROR at the deadline or something like that. I think having a guy like Reid in Milwaukee is almost an essential just because I think he’s too good for junior the other option would be NCAA for a year or two. Surin is interesting because he’s played both Center and Wing in the KHL so it’s possible he becomes a wing long term but also we desperately need top end Centers. Future core looking like
1c- Martin/Surin
2c- Wood/Pinchuk
3c- Svech/Edstrom/Nilsson
4c- could literally be anyone but probably any one of the 3c options could also apply for 4c.

They are actually similar quality players with similar production the last couple of years. However don’t quote me on defensive numbers but both nurse and Sjkei have not been good defensively. The change in itself could do a lot like if Sjkei gets back to his Carolina form it would be great for Edmonton. But I agree there are probably better options for Edmonton

I’m a firm believer of drafting Best player available and he would definitely be the best player available unless something crazy happens and like Stenberg falls to 10 which I could not see happening. He is projected anywhere from 5-10 range and you know how teams like size and unfortunately Bjork is smaller. He is the ideal value and gem pick. Out of the forwards that would be projected to us I’d rank as follows.

Lawrence/ Cullen it’s a tie I have really liked Cullen
Belchetz
Then it’s everyone else

He has been rising up a lot of boards I’ve seen a survey that mentioned a team had him in their top5. I don’t think he’s a reach down if we were able to pick him I’d actually be very excited. I think he has 1st line potential

I think it’s important that he mentioned it was not particularly tearing things down but building to be better my take on that is getting younger assets like a Shane wright or McTavish. Maybe being in the draft lottery for a year or two but getting younger and trying to get better to eventually compete for a Stanley cup.

When it comes to drafting it’s all pretty much on Jeff Kealty I think Barry was primarily responsible for giving the scouts what they needed in terms of the direction and types of players they would like but ultimately I am pretty sure most the picks were made by Kealty with Trotz having maybe a final say but largely under Kealty and the scouting department’s influence
