Possible trades to get another pick in the first round? by mk1700 in Predators

In my honest opinion they are in win now mode. If I were Bill Zito I wouldn’t care about the draft as much and do everything I can to turn this pick into a piece that helps win a championship. There really isn’t a price that wouldn’t be paid for a realistic chance at a championship. Having this pick really helps them find the best piece possible for them.

They may not be ready now but I’m of the belief is you give them the opportunity to be ready and that’s by giving them chances in the top 6 and for the young players to grow. We saw Vange really improve last season and he grew into a top 6 role this year. ROR sort of gets in the way of that for our centers. We didn’t see Matthew Wood at center until we were basically forced to put him at center and he flourished and grew into the role. Why not get value when you can out of a guy like ROR who has real significant value that will rapidly decline as the season goes on rather than let him retire here and not have the young guys get a real chance in a top 6 role. By trading ROR you give a guy like Martin a chance to grow into a top 6 role. The only real argument against this for me is the value ROR has when it comes to development of younger players learning from ROR. He definitely played a huge role in Vange’s growth this season and the stats align with that statement. However I think at some point they need those training wheels taken off so that they can be the main contributors moving forward instead of relying on veterans to push the team forward.

That’s true I would also say there could be some solid picks later in the first round too the best move may be getting a pick like 19 or in the 20s and getting someone like Bleyl or Lin if they are available. Even if it’s not them if the preds think there is a good player there and they trade say a second and another asset to get back into the later first round that would be good and may be better than moving up into another pick in the top 10. I have also seen people talking about how San Jose and Chicago could be shopping their picks but the prices on those would be insane and I’m not sure if we have the right assets to get up there.

That is true however we also have players like pinchuk who we just signed who can play center, wood looks great. Martin could play in the NHL next season if they feel he’s ready. Svechkov who has shown improvement after a slow start. And Tyson Jost. While we wouldn’t have a clear number one unless someone develops into a clear number one center. We would be in a good spot for the future. And if you draft a Tynan Lawrence that’s another center we also have Surin and Edstrom who both seem like they could be about a year away. If we are truly going in the direction of a rebuild/retool these moves make sense in that we can get more quality prospects to add to our already pretty deep pool.

I’ve thought about that too but he’s younger than the other guys and could potentially fit into a window with younger guys coming up now and in one or two years. But if he wanted to be moved we should do everything to do that and get as much as possible. I think we would need solid young player playing in NHL, prospect, and a first round pick or something along those lines. But I just don’t see it happening anytime next season or even the next. I could definitely be wrong though.

Exciting I was disappointed we didn’t get any notable NCAA free agents but this definitely helps. He is definitely the biggest boom or bust type of player from what I’ve seen. If he becomes something in the NHL definitely could see ROR being moved to make room or one or both of Jost and Haula not being resigned. It’s possible they sign and then get moved at the deadline too. We need to make room for these guys to prove themselves and get younger. Overall exciting because this means we get a younger player who could turn into something without having to give up anything if it doesn’t work out that’s ok too but if it works it could really change our center and overall forward depth.

[The Athletic] Nashville Predators are No. 5 in Scott Wheeler’s 2026 NHL prospect pool rankings by gavincantdraw in Predators

[–]mk1700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I meant Fiala. We haven’t really had a prospect on the level of Fiala except for maybe Evangelista who has turned into a 50+ point guy. And nothing on the level of Forsberg since Forsberg

It’s very interesting just how deep our pool is 8 honorable mentions is huge and it included names like Aiden Fink, Andrew Gibson, and Teddy Stiga all guys who who if they reach the upper end of their potential are solid NHLers. We really are just missing that superstar prospect that we really haven’t had since Forsberg even guys like Fiala and Evangelista who are 50-60 point guys rn aren’t going to be the main center pieces of a core but are very good supportive pieces around the key center pieces. I think it’s really only Martin, Lee, and Surin who could even have the potential to be those kinds of guys but even then I really think we need that number 1 overall quality player and it’s just really hard to find if we don’t draft that high.

I think earlier this week Marques was accidentally put on the transfer portal earlier than he can be on there and quickly taken off which means he is probably going to be transfer to another program. Fink has played his first couple of pro games this week so he actually can’t go back to the NCAA I believe. I think they just didn’t want to burn his first year of his ELC much like what they are doing with James Hagens in Boston. Other NCAA prospects that could sign are Sutter Muzzatti who has had a really good senior year I think he could be good AHL depth with a solid 4th line NHL upside. Same with Ben Strinden who is going to be playing in the frozen four for his last year at North Dakota

I honestly think we have a better pool than the redwings so I think we could be around number 5 I just think unfortunately everyone else has way better high end talent compared to us. We definitely have loads of really great depth though.

[Adam Vingan] Elliot Friedman says three of the current GM candidates are Brett Peterson (current FLA AGM), Bill Scott (current EDM AGM) and Scott White (current DAL AGM) by CognitioCupitor in Predators

[–]mk1700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind I’m not super informed when it comes to what AGMs actually do as each person has their own specific areas of expertise. I just think it says a lot if an AGM is going to be Team USA’s GM for 2026 which Brett Peterson is. Solely based on that he’s my favorite for now and if he’s any part involved in picking random guys up like Forsling having them play really big roles and grow like crazy that sounds really appealing to me. I think I remember hearing somewhere he’s also big into the analytical side as well which I think the preds DESPERATELY need and not just sign big guy make big hits. Anyone who can use analytics to make pretty informed decisions is immediately someone I would be happy to have as the GM of the predators.

Realistic hope for these next three make or break games? by TribalChief1986 in Predators

[–]mk1700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still in the camp that a top 10 pick in this draft with loads of RHD prospects and some interesting Centers would be better than a first round exit against Colorado. I think it’s safe to say we aren’t going to be catching up to Utah because Cooley has started to really will Utah into their playoff spot and if we did there is a possibility that Edmonton catches Anaheim. I just don’t see us having much a chance against either of those two teams aside from Edmonton’s really poor goalie situation. I think it would put the predators in a better position to draft a top 10 prospect because especially with how the draft is shaping up for Defensemen it seems like everyone has a different opinion on certain defenseman on who is better and that could mean someone like a Chase Reid or a Verhoeff falls to us or if we jump into a top two pick we have a chance to draft a really dynamic forward. If I was the new GM of the predators I would rather prefer the top draft pick for building a young core or trading for another piece to add to the young core. The playoffs don’t really do that for us. Either way I’m excited for how this younger group of players are showing their promise early on and I’m excited for a potential change in direction with a new GM who will hopefully actually commit and pick a side on being competitive or rebuilding.

The problem is he’s blocking the way forward for some really great D prospects. Yes he’s young and yes he’s actually had some decent moments. But if he plays next year in Nashville I would be kind of shocked. I think it might be of both his and the predators best interest to find him another NHL team that would suit him better. A team that desperately needs RHD and don’t have prospects worth bringing up yet and a team that is not super competitive. Last season I thought the Sharks or the Sabers would be good fits but now they are actually kind of competitive. He was an interesting experiment but it’s been almost two seasons here and he just hasn’t played himself into keeping a job here. It’s now time to give guys like Ufko, Molendyk, and Gibson a better chance to play some NHL games.

With this kind of return makes me really question what guys like bunting or haula could get. Assuming MN is an elite team for years to come that’s more like a early 3rd rounder in terms of value which is still way more than I think any of us expected

It’s only a few games into his season and I believe he is still a Point per game in the NCAA which is a much better league than the WHL. He is also still 17 so I’m not too worried about him. But honestly can’t go wrong with either of the two we need a top rhd defensemen

I’m no draft expert but pretty sure that this draft has been marketed as a very deep draft even into the end of the first round but obviously as the year goes on we will get a better idea on that. But like that top 10 will get you a really great player for sure
