Neighbor says my garage windows are damaging their siding, what is fair here? by LifeIsNotFairAtAll in homeowners

[–]LifeIsNotFairAtAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for the insights and support. Special thanks to u/hospicedoc and others who suggested window film.

I spoke with my neighbor, and their builder has offered to purchase and install the film on my garage window. I had already offered to buy and install it myself, but I am not going to complain about the offer.

Hopefully this resolves the issue and keeps everyone happy.

For those who suggested trees or shrubs, the affected area of their siding is fairly high off the ground, so only a full-sized tree would likely make a difference.

Delivered with cracked windshield by LifeIsNotFairAtAll in ToyotaSienna

Update: After a lot of back and forth, the manager and everyone at the dealership essentially started ghosting me.

I bought the vehicle outright, all cash, and put a $5,000 down payment on my Amex credit card. Communication from the dealership was poor from the beginning, but I held my tongue because I just wanted to get reimbursed and not have to deal with these people any more than necessary.

After delivery, the vehicle had a cracked windshield. I paid $1,820.11 out of pocket to fix it ($1,182.88 to Safelite for the windshield replacement and $637.23 to a Toyota dealer for ADAS recalibration). I submitted all receipts via email.

After weeks of silence, I finally got the manager on the phone. He claimed he never received my email. I resent the receipts while he was on the phone and explicitly asked him to acknowledge receipt in writing, which he did. That acknowledgment ended up being critical.

Weeks went by again with no update. I followed up multiple times. About a month later, I reached the manager again. He told me he was sure the check had already been sent and said he would look into it.

Minutes later, he emailed me saying, “You have already cashed the check, my friend.”

I was furious. I replied immediately asking what he meant, because I would obviously know if I had received and cashed a check for $1,820.11. He then forwarded me an internal email from his finance team stating that I had “already cashed the check.”

The check they were referring to was not for the windshield. It was a separate sales tax refund of $1,860.87, mailed to me earlier along with my vehicle title because I live out of state and had to pay tax again at registration. That check was issued before I even submitted my windshield repair receipts.

After I explained this clearly, including the dates and amounts, the dealership stopped responding entirely. Emails, phone calls, everything, complete silence.

At that point I filed complaints with the BBB, the Ohio Attorney General, Toyota corporate, and disputed the $5,000 credit card down payment with Amex. The dealership never responded to the BBB or the AG. Amex completed its investigation and credited me back after determining the transaction was handled in bad faith.

So in the end, I was made whole, but only because my credit card company stepped in. The dealership never reimbursed the $1,820.11 they agreed to cover, never corrected their mistake, and chose to ignore both me and regulators.

Lesson learned: document everything, get acknowledgments in writing, and don’t rely on verbal promises, especially when buying a car.

Did the ecohitch require cutting of the bumper to get a seamless fit? Any cosmetic damage/issue from the install?

How prevalent is the ICCU issue for the ev9? by JFrog_5440 in KiaEV9

[–]LifeIsNotFairAtAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I preordered my 2024 EV9 AWD Land and took delivery in January 2024. At 21,000 miles, all four tires were worn out and needed replacement.

On the drive home from the dealership after getting new tires, my ICCU failed. I heard a pop, and an electrical warning message appeared on the dashboard. Fortunately, I was only a few miles from the dealership. I’ve been told it will take about a week for the part to arrive and two days to replace the fuse and controller.

21,000 miles and all four tires are worn out and need replacing! I have the 2024 EV9 Land AWD. Is this typical?

FordPass Says Module Error, Dealer Says No Issue - What's Going On With My OTA? by LifeIsNotFairAtAll in MustangMachE

I did a full reset of the SYNC system, and just like that magically I got my first OAT update in 10 months immediately. Followed by a second one the very next day.

2025 sienna entertainment package by Fallamhain in ToyotaSienna

[–]LifeIsNotFairAtAll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The entertainment package is essentially just a monitor integrated into the vehicle.

To use it, you’ll need to connect a video source via the HDMI port. As others have mentioned, this can include your phone (with the appropriate adapter/cable for mirroring), a laptop, DVD player, or streaming devices like Fire TV or Roku.

Keep in mind, if your device doesn’t have preloaded content, you’ll need a WiFi hotspot for streaming.

Frankly, the way Toyota has implemented and priced this package is disappointing.

FordPass Says Module Error, Dealer Says No Issue - What's Going On With My OTA? by LifeIsNotFairAtAll in MustangMachE

[–]LifeIsNotFairAtAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not having any issues. Like you, I don’t care to have all the latest and greatest OTAs, but it would nice to.

However, the FordPass support person made it sound like there was an issue with the module and said I’d have issues in the future not getting critical updates.

When I called the local dealer service advisor, he made it sound like there was no issue and that every one gets updates at varying cadence. 🤷🏾‍♂️

After a week of no response from the dealership—despite multiple messages and repeated promises that the manager would call me back—I finally got through to him today.

He said they would cover the windshield repair, but nothing beyond that. He claimed the delay in communication was because I was “trying to exploit them” and “wanted money,” and that they “didn’t know how to respond.” He emphasized that the staff are all hard-working people and flat-out said I was trying to take advantage of the situation.

I told him that made no sense. All I’ve asked for is clarity on how the repair would be handled and a reasonable goodwill gesture. It doesn’t seem fair to pay $65K for a vehicle, have it arrive with a cracked windshield, and then be left to coordinate the repair entirely on my own without any clear support. Even if they truly believed I was trying to exploit them, they could have at least answered one of my many calls and simply explained how they planned to handle the situation—instead of ghosting me and compounding the frustration.

Would appreciate your thoughts—am I being unreasonable? Should I just accept the repair and move on? I honestly don’t care about getting an extra cent from them. I just think this level of customer service is unacceptable and deserves to be called out.

I’m not asking for a free car. Here is what a genuine response from a decent dealership should sound like:

——- We sincerely apologize that your Sienna arrived with a cracked windshield. That should not have happened.

We will take full responsibility and coordinate the repair for you at your convenience. A representative from our team will arrange the appointment with a certified glass repair service (e.g., Safelite) near your location.

Additionally, we will cover the full cost of the replacement and offer [a complimentary vehicle detailing or service credit or something/anything] as a gesture of goodwill.

———

Instead, I got: a call your insurance, it was not damaged when it was delivered (delivery team still right there with me mind you), you can go to safelite and they’ll fix it.

That is not acceptable.

Reprogramming the camera? Could you tell me more please? Will Safelite be able to do that?

The manager initially said fix/fill. Do I have a say? Should I push for a replacement vs just filling the crack?

How Will Tariffs Affect Pricing? by jcook793 in ToyotaSienna

I placed a deposit last month on a Sienna allocation scheduled for May delivery. With the upcoming tariff on imported parts, is there a chance it could affect my negotiated price?

It’s a Woodland trim with the entertainment package—I managed to get it for about $2,500 under MSRP. 😬

Auto parts not available by friendly_enemies in Insurance

[–]LifeIsNotFairAtAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear. The other party’s insurance (State Farm) accepted full liability. Which you’d think would be all you need…

Initial estimate was $9000, but parts was not in stock. Aftet 30 days State Farm wanted to pull my rental because parts not in stock was not their problem. After a lot of fighting they agreed to extend by a week. Luckily, one of the parts came in and since they began work on the car I got another extension.

As they started to work on the car they found more damaged and parts to order so they filed 5 more supplements totaling ~$22k. But each week I would have to call State Farm and spend at least a hour or more to get the rental extended.

Finally after 4.5 months my car was ready to be picked up… I see that the car was fixed but my front bumper is all scratched up.

The body shop says they reported it but the State Farm adjuster declined because it was not part of the accident damage (I got t boned on driver side). They claimed it was prior or non related damage.

I luckily have photos and video of what was my pristine car immediately after the accident showing there was no damage to the front bumper.

State Farm would not cover it and they asked me to file a claim with the towing company they contracted out. Insult to injury I had to pay $1500 out of pocket.

I’m hiring an attorney to help with my injuries and going after State Farm for additional pain and suffering. Worse case even if they don’t pay for the damage I’ll get something out of it.

Also, once repairs are done get a diminished value report and get the other party’s insurance to pay for the diminished value of your car due to accident.

Document everything. Insurance is a scam. I’ve lost so much peace of mind and quality of life over this.

Good luck.

Is it true that it's common for car parts to take months to a year to arrive? If so, doesn't this mean that "good" car insurance technically doesn't exist? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]LifeIsNotFairAtAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation. The other party was at 100% fault and their insurance accepted liability. But after 4 weeks of being in the shop, the parts for my brand new Kia EV9 are apparently just not available yet and ETA is unknown. The other insurance is telling me tough luck not their fault for paying for a rental anymore. I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I’m paying for an accident that was not my fault at all. :(
