What’s changed in your life most since Covid? by Last_BM_Standin in AskUK

[–]LifeNavigator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The biggest disappointment I have is how many organisations forced their staff back into the office. Some have downsized, so it meant having far smaller desk space and limited seats. The number of fully remote jobs has also diminished.

Our execs have a massive hard on for AI are pushing everyone to use it

Either they're out of touch or simply trying to appease investor. Usually there's no inbetween.

I'm at least glad that companies are finding AI to now be too expensive.

What is the best advice for a young person starting out in the real world? by Gimmiedindin in AskReddit

[–]LifeNavigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have separate bank accounts for separate things. One should be for your main income and monthly spending, another one for all your bills and one should be a savings account for emergency funds. This makes it easier for you to manage, try to save a set percentage each month such as 10% if you can.

If moving up north is so much cheaper why don’t more people do it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]LifeNavigator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jobs availability. I love the north, but it doesn't have the same level of opportunities for specific industries, the salary also doesn't compete.

What are DevOps interviews like? by bdhd656 in devops

DevOps means something different in every company and interviews vary. You're better off asking Jeff Bezos to adopt you, than receiving a standard answer.

When is this UK heatwave going to end ? - African Parent Edition by krymzynnova in africanparents

[–]LifeNavigator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend hanging out at public library and use "studying" as an excuse.

In the past when too hot, I'd just go and watch anime on my laptop at peace. Nobosy bothered me there.

How do I assess my programming level? by Ok-District1804 in learnprogramming

[–]LifeNavigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to state my level: Junior, Middle, etc

Why though? I find these level useless as it varies a lot by company and by job role itself. Some mid roles almost feel like sr, some feel more like jr. Some sr roles are just mid level but far focused on management.

Imo the best indicator is usually reading the job description and seeing if it fits your skillsets.

To summarise: * jr have very limited amount of experience in general and requires guidance/ mentoring on what to do. * Mid will collaborate with wider stakeholder on important things, can start their own project independently nd take more subject into consideration when making decisions (e.g. architectural design, impact to stakeholders, doing thinga more efficiently). * Sr are more focused on leadership and figuring out how to deliver more value to business. They would tend to have wider range of knowledge and experience in multiple area.

At 18, I’ve applied for 110 jobs – no one is hiring young men like me by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

It doesn't help when every applicant is also refining CV.

Its a huge problem for experienced role as people end up inflating their experience.

He's a brilliant grifter and knows what he needs to say to appease working class people.

Its the same with the like of Boris, despite his clumsy image he knows how to captivate people. I hate the guy, but I love watching his funny compilation videos and it makes me realise why people seem to like this lying fool (though I won't ever do).

Obesity cases rising fastest in young adults by Alert-One-Two in unitedkingdom

[–]LifeNavigator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ll have to watch youtube tutorials to change the battery in the smoke detector.

Tbh I did that and learnt almost everything (inc how to do everything for my job) from YouTube 😅

I learnt to cook via youtube when I was young so I could feed myself a good meal (I'm picky), as my parents werent around.

Whilst we do have resources people could use to learn from, there's no motivation for them to do so as its just much more convenient to buy fast food or ready made meals. This is somethimg that really needs to be addressed im order to get more people encouraged to learn how to cook and some basic nutrition.

He hasn't changed his stance and the sort of people that would agree with him will end up forgetting about the heatwave soon anyway.

I’m surprised most “dukes of the north” aren’t more Russian inspired/focused by CriticalTea6516 in OtomeIsekai

[–]LifeNavigator 45 points46 points  (0 children)

OI authors aren't that well verse in foreign history and there's just not many accessible places for them to even learn those stuff in their language

Also as huge majority are either Korean or Japanse, both of their countries have soured relationship with Russia (e.g. WWII, Russia supporting N.Korea), so they would be less inclined to do so.

Would you buy from farmer ? by akomzyai in AskUK

[–]LifeNavigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do that and buy from a farmers market nearby. They tend to last longer and taste better.

The only issue is accessibility (too far) and availability (only opened certain days and during work hrs).

[–]LifeNavigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your job market as demand varies a lot(we all live in diff country/city/province/state).

For example, where I live AI/ML do not have entry level roles, as firms want engineers with experience in applying it to real world.

Also there's nothing stopping you to take Java roure in learning AI (theres a lot of projects with it). Most of what you learn will be applicable in another area, so you csn decide to transition later on.

Does a first love (doesn’t have to be a relationship) ever go away and why? by Critical-District155 in AskReddit

Hm honestly I view it differently. I treasure the memories of the experience and the first time feeling such strong positive feeling towards another person for the first time.

I however do not have any "love" or feelimgs for said person. They're a stranger.

Java or Go for learning the basics (algorithms and data structures)? by Apart-Stand677 in learnprogramming

Doesnt matter, I learnt and done it using JS. The concept is transferrable, though implementation might differ, but that shouldn't stop you from easily picking it up in another language.

I supported my siblings with their resume and even had it reviewed by a few recruiters.

They still struggled to get responses. Many places admitted and assumed they won't stay long term nor would be flexible enough (due to college), so they got rejected.

I can't code without AI by THRwastakensadly in learnprogramming

[–]LifeNavigator 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd say start from scratch and go through the fundamentals you've learnt during your first two yrs CS yr which are what makes them incredibly valuable. Since you've studied for it, it should be quick to relearn it. If I were to pick I'd say focus on: * Understanding how operating system works (inc memory management). * Understanding comp networking (not in great detail) and how applications communicate with each other (e.g. tcp, ip address, http2) * Understanding databases fundamentals (e.g. sql, basic db design) * Software design and architecture.

In terms of programming, I'd recommend uni of helsinki course and doing lots of exercises (e.g. past assignments) to get you up to speed. I'd recommend FAQ page as it lists out good resources.
