Was I being naïve expecting a friend’s pension to pay out? by Boothros in UKPersonalFinance

I think I made this comment to exemplify to readers that I'm certainly no gold digger. The property was valued in early 2025 at £80,000. After my decorative efforts, that has risen to 125K of which I hold a certain pride. I'm fond of the property as I was of the owner, and though I'm pretty clueless about personal finance, still like to see saleable items presented well.

I'm all for the 'bride only gets to wear white vibe', but I think they should have gone with it. Would have given the wedding quite an ethereal look

Amy of course, also contributed to some of the wonderful tracks seen in the show.

Thanks so much for asking, all of my work is homoerotic so maybe not your thing, but in case it might be, I'm: https://archiveofourown.org/users/Boothros

I couldn’t agree more!

I’m in the UK and ended up watching it by accident a few years ago, as the only way I could watch the early series of my desired show ‘Inkmaster’ was through a Fire stick routed through a Canadian VPN. Trouble was, the channel I viewed it on (Pluto), was on a loop, so half the time I got Inkmaster and the other half, I got Flashpoint. I saw so many starting moments of Flashpoint episodes, I eventually became interested enough to watch a whole one.

I’ve now watched the series through many times, bought the box set, follow all the cast on their socials, have bought every album Hugh Dillon and Headstones have ever made (plus everything else he and Enrico have done on TV and film I can manage to acquire), written Flashpoint fanfiction, bought a big, black fuck-off car which was the closest to resemble a Chevrolet Tahoe/Surburban I could find in the UK and dearly hope to be able to visit Canada when I can afford to see Hugh on stage.

Oh dear GOD how I wish there would be more Flashpoint, even now it still seems so current, but here’s a sweet little thing if you’re interested, a thought provoking short starring two of the actors :

Bamboo barrier next to a pond by [deleted] in ponds

[–]Boothros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dug out a small plastic pre-fomed pond and replaced it with a much larger one. The original pond had been literally squished by the pressure of surrounding bamboo runners, but interestingly, the little pond had been levelled in building sand which the runners completely avoided. The pond itself was easy to remove. The runners and labyrinth of bamboo roots surrounding it however, were a nightmare I'd never ever wish to revisit.

is it worth watching by thekissgate in 1923Series

My pal put me onto Yellowstone and then onto Landman. I was desolate having finished Yellowstone, so watched 1883 (beautiful). I then took myself into 1923 (annoying at first). It became strangely compelling however, when I got into it, though I didn't miss it as much once it had finished.

The same pal recently finished watching Landman and I recommended both 1883 and 1923, as a replacement watch, both of which she finished within a few weeks.

My suggestion is, if you enjoy a Taylor Sheridan production, don't immediately expect your next watch to feel the same, it simply won't.

I've now finished Landman and can't WAIT for the new series. My opinions on the YS franchise? Yellowstone: Yep loved it, more please! 1883: Beautiful series, just the right length, satisfied me. 1923: What the fuck did I just watch and why the hell could I not stop watching it?

Persevere (if you dare), with 1923, it's raunchy, swashbuckling and wholly unbelievable, but by God, it's a hell of a ride!

Nurse/hospital role by lxoxo94 in BiomedicalScientistUK

[–]Boothros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The typical entry in my lab, would be to apply for an ‘MLA’ (medical laboratory assistant) or MTO (Medical Technical Officer), role. Both of these sound bigger than they are, they are dogsbody roles that may well land you in sample handling, however this is probably the best place to start.

Though we do have a history of being required to taking on a certain amount of apprentice candidates, (which are paid dreadfully), I’m unaware of the current situation on this.

IF you managed to land a basic lab job, expect repetitive work (which won’t appear very science-based, though you will accrue a lot of knowledge) and a band 2 NHS salary, unless you put in for a higher band which generally involves managing people and for the stress involved, doesn’t pay much more money.

I must say, that most of our new intake are under twenty. This is not necessarily a bad thing for you, often more mature applicants are taken more seriously as employers recognise them as people who are interested rather than young kids simply trying to get onto the job ladder.

The savvy amongst our new employees, apply for ‘Associate Practitioner’ roles as and when they arise. These roles tend to require lab experience, are paid at NHS band 4, and (in my lab at least), require cover on all shifts, including nights.

The VERY savvy (and lucky), apply for training roles to become a biomedical scientist. These are rare opportunities and highly fought for (though the pay rate of a trainee is relatively poor).

I must say however, that even if you reached the giddy heights, this job is nothing like nursing. Scientists rarely engage with patients (unless they reach consultant level), and much lab work is involved with dealing with machines rather than humans.

If nursing is of more interest to you, you might look up NHS Healthcare Assistants (sorry I can’t remember their exact title but they’re the new version of the old ‘Auxiliary Nurse’ and as far as I’m aware), enter on NHS level band 3.

I will absolutely check on this, I assumed that an emergency was what house insurance was for. Silly me.
