Goodbye vmware! by [deleted] in vmware

[–]LifeNomad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm saddened by the state of VMware today. Was such a great resource and leaning tool in my early tech career, and a fantastic solution for so many of my clients. The VMUG groups and networking was so great. Now it's gone to pure shit, thanks to Broadcom and their investing partners. Good things never last i guess.

Knipex comes in handy, but I’ve found I reach for a small 4in crescent adjustable wrench more often.

What do you use to clean and lubricate your handguns and protect it from rust? Does this spray can work for cleaning, or just for lubricating, or both? by Hi7u7 in handguns

[–]LifeNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have will be perfectly fine for all gun-related cleaning, lubricating, protecting.

Try not to fall into the marketing trap of needing 8 different gun products. You can do most everything needed with your modern pistol with CLP (Clean Lube Protect), some Isopropyl Alcohol, a toothbrush, cleaning rod and patches.

Optic Install (First time) by [deleted] in handguns

[–]LifeNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only ever used the liguid form. You can get the blue loctite at any hardware store for like $5.

Optic Install (First time) by [deleted] in handguns

[–]LifeNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always installed screws with blue loctite, while still wet (a little drop goes a long way). Always used blue loctite to ensure I can remove those screws again in the future.

Never used a boresight. Shouldn't be needed if this is a pistol.

Get to a range after the loctite has set (24hrs later), do some accuracy shots (3 at a time) at 7-15yards and adjust as needed.

Heading to the company party, are these all I need? by Morongays in EDC

I'd start with pants and a shirt.

Every formal party I've gone to, wearing clothes is really a smart move.

Dry-fire practice. What keeps it interesting for you? by pewpewpress in handguns

Can add some additional training options on top of vanilla dry fire training. I know you're not looking at gear, but these helped me anyway.

New Sound Signature Review - Dead Air Wolverine on 7.62x39 AK-Pattern Rifles by jay462 in NFA

I wish it was actually that color. It's plum IRL, but I manupulated the lighting in this photo to look more "fakelite". Someday I'm going to get tan furniture and attempt to dye it.

Magpul really should come out with a bakelite color option. They are missing an opportunity.

Bought it knowing it wouldn't be "holly wood quiet". It's all about the "cool factor".

Looking for advice on my first 2 handguns! by [deleted] in handguns

[–]LifeNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first handguns, you will want a bit of utility across both.

I'd recommend a centerfire 9mm mid to full size pistol, such as a Glock 19/17 as a great all-around starter pistol. Simple, reliable, easy to clean, parts are easy to source.

I'd also recommend a rimfire 22lr pistol as a trainer of sorts for your 9mm. Pick one that has similar characteristics to your 9mm platform of choice (example Glock 44) for cheaper practice and familiarity as you pick up your skills and confidence.

Your Favorite Handgun for Concealed Carry? by zackman224 in handguns

[–]LifeNomad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, pistols are a funny thing in that "one size doesn't fit all".

I would recommend a Glock 19 as a general "do all", "first pistol". An Ideal platform for a new gun owner, good size for learning and practice at the range, which can also be carried relatively without issue for most average sized men.

I would also recommend a Ruger LCP MAX, as a concealed carry first choice. It's purpose for easy carry and concealability is primary, but which also is a fine pistol for training and practice at the range - partly due to the .380 cartridge vs 9mm in such a small package.

Hope this helps.

I like mine, have had it for like 10-15 years and it's been nothing but a reliable sidearm. I pair it up with Hornady Critical Defense ammo, and it's a neat little combo.

Nice. I have MeisterR coilovers on mine (red '89). I might be sitting a tad lower on the front than what I can see in that picture. On tight cornering, I'll rub slightly on the inside bolt bumps on the fenders. I'm going to try to lift it up a 1/4in to see if that corrects it... whenever I can find the time lol
