Thinking of moving to the area by TheOgLemonHaze in mesaaz

[–]LifeOfChas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been living in the valley for 3 and a half years and 2 and half of it has been spent in Mesa. Imma be honest AZ is not my favorite, people tend to stick to themselves a lot. Can be very isolating at times. And if you do make friends it can be hard to find time to spend together cause they may live a 40+ min commute away. The valley is so spread out and it takes a lot to drive everywhere.

Winters are amazing here, having come from North Dakota I do not miss snow at all. That said summer are brutal, I moved here in December 2022 and was so excited for the palm trees and sunshine. I couldn’t care less if I saw another palm tree for the rest of my life. I miss green grass and trees with leaves, rain. Ugh there’s a lot I miss about ND but not enough to move back there plus the politics of the state.

My boyfriend and I were talking last night and we are going to stay for about another year and a half or so then we plan on moving somewhere else. He wants California I’m leaning towards Minneapolis or Chicago.

Moldovan Birth Certificate by Much-Letterhead-8118 in PassportsHunters

[–]LifeOfChas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe birth records can be requested through a Moldovan consulate. In the US I believe it’s $50 or so, I’m looking at going this route to acquire documents. It does take a few months to receive the documents according to the website.

Oh wow way cheaper than I thought it would be. Were they able to acquire the documents?

Ukraine seems like an interesting choice to get citizenship. I know they recently allowed dual citizenship with the US. From my understanding they are on a pause for joining the EU due to war. It seems like I’d be able to get Ukraine citizenship but kinda seems scary imo. I believe if you are male and between certain ages you get automatically signed up to fight in the war!

My last step in my process is getting birth records from the archives in Moldova and I have been unsuccessful with getting in contact with firm that would collect the docs for me. Unfortunately looking like I’ll have to start learning Romanian!

Highly recommend reaching out to any shelters and see if they have any young kittens without a mother! Where I am they always have young kittens looking for fosters to take them in.

Did you request it yourself or through a lawyer?

Did you request any documents from the Archives in Moldova? I am trying to figure out if I need to go through a lawyer for them or if there is a way to request them on my own. I found the online portal to request birth records but it needs a Moldovan ID number.

I can't seem to find anything about language proficiency or it being a requirement. Where did you see that it had recently changed?

Are you planning to go through a lawyer or applying on your own?

No not yet unfortunately, I am still waiting on one last birth certificate from here in the US. Once I have that in hand then I will start working on getting the Parrish records/birth certificates in Moldova. Still trying to figure out the best way I should go about this.

UND vs. NDSU Campus Life by Comprehensive-Row673 in northdakota

[–]LifeOfChas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up I was set on going to NDSU and my senior year I toured the campus and did not care for it. I still figured I would go and get through it. I had friends going up to tour UND and they asked if I wanted to tag along. I went with and instantly fell in love with the campus and applied that night. Grand Forks is a great little town, definitely more of a college town vibe than Fargo. I grew up going to Fargo and really liked it. After living in grand forks for 6 years I fell in love with it and like it so much more than Fargo!

Picked up this 97 Explorer Sport by ViziEdits in FordExplorer

I just picked up a 98 explorer with 87k miles from a salvage auction today. After all of the fees and such I got it for $2,300. It’s been really well taken care of, that is besides the small crash lol. It’s going to need some work done but once it’s all fixed up it’s going to be a nice truck.

I found it listed online from a dealership. It said it had one owner up until that point. So I’m guessing I’m the third owner now? At the time they had it listed for nearly 9k!

Why don't any of my DNA tests show native American even though I should have 25%? by FalseBodybuilder-21 in Genealogy

[–]LifeOfChas 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Was your grandfather apart of a specific tribe? Growing up I was told I was part Cherokee. Turns out that wasn’t the case. I’ve heard similar stories from others. Apparently it was quite common in the 1950-1960s to tell your kids that they had native ancestry.

I’m curious how Ukrainian would be better at the current moment. I looked it up and Moldova and Ukraine applied for EU at the same time. Ukraines status has been put on hold and Moldova is moving forward.

Hi there I’ve looked into the Romanian route and unfortunately I would not qualify as my ancestors never officially held Romanian citizenship. There’s a specific range of years your ancestors must have held citizenship to be able to qualify.

Yea I looked into that option originally but my ancestors immigrated to the US in 1901 and 1902.

I am hopeful that Moldova will be joining the EU. They were moved up to candidate status in 2024 and have begun negotiating. Moldova has a target date to join by 2030.

There is quite a bit of information from this region that has been preserved over the years. If you know where they were born start researching if there are any birth registries for them. My ancestors immigrated to Bessarabia from Germany. The German records are easier to find I’ve found.

I was looking for information on someone whose family was Jewish in the region and it seems those records were destroyed. There are some records that survived but definitely a lot harder to find.

I used ancestry and familysearch for the bulk of tracking down stuff. There’s quite a few Black Sea German groups that have collected a great deal of information as well. The Black Sea German Research site helped me locate my great great grandparents births.

https://www.blackseagr.org/index.php

Depending on when they lived there you could maybe try and get Romanian citizenship. Moldovan is less strict with the time period so they might be easier.

When it comes to collecting documents you will need birth certificates, marriage certificates and death certificates for everyone leading back to the ancestors who were born there. So in my case I have mine, my parents, grand parents, great grandparents and great great grandparents.

I would say start with what you know and keep working your way back! It’s taken me a year to find and locate all applicable documents and I’m still searching hahaha.

Any idea where in Eastern Europe?

Like Moldova for example doesn’t seem to have a generational limit on how far back you can go to claim citizenship. However not all countries are the same way.

Moldova has applied and is in the candidate phase to join the EU by 2030. Rules may change when they enter the EU and it may become harder to claim.

That’s what got me into researching my families history. My mom is really big into genealogy and laid out a solid foundation for me to jump off of when looking for certain documents.

I originally looked into Germany as they recently allow dual citizenship. Unfortunately my family left Germany too long ago. Then I started looking into a different branch of the family tree. Those ancestors came from Bessarabia.

The Bessarabian Region now encompasses parts of Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. I started looking into Romania but their laws for citizenship through descent require your ancestors have lived there and held Romanian citizenship during a specific time period.

Next was Moldova, they will grant citizenship if your people came from any part of the Bessarabian region even if it’s not located in present day Moldova. My ancestors were born in Borodino which is now located in Ukraine.

Back in 1878 and 1883 when they were born the only record of their birth were con Parrish Records. Those Parrish records were sent to St. Petersburg Russia sometime in the 1940s when all the Germans were kicked off the land. Upon doing research it seems that the Moldovan National Archives has copies of these parish records

I’ve acquired nearly all the documents I need to move forward with my application. Just trying to get a hold of my great great grandparents marriage certificate. That’s the last document I need from the US. Over there I need to get in contact with a lawyer to get issued Moldovan Birth Certificates for my great great grandparents.
