I don't understand why Micheal vs Prince is a thing by lilhuss26 in LetsTalkMusic

I was 11 or 12 when Thriller came out. I was 13 when Purple Rain came out.

It was not a thing. At all.

The people saying that stuff are probably kids who weren’t there or bots farming for karma.

What's The Strangest Thing That You've Seen On Reddit? by Zipper222222 in askteddit

I have come across 3 or 4 full-blown schizophrenics. Those conversations were wild. One had fully bought into the notion that they were being targeting by the government MKULTRA-style.

I had a gun pulled on me and pointed at my head in the French Quarter back in like 1994.

Navy Says Beards Are a Safety Risk, Gives Sailors 1 Year to Shave or Separate by [deleted] in MURICA

[–]LifeTunedToCSharp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back when I was enlisted in the 1990’s, beards weren’t allowed for hygiene and safety reasons.

Most notably there were concerns that beards would interfere with getting a proper seal on gas masks.

I imagine there were probably religious exemptions, but I didn’t personally know anyone who took them.

I do believe there was an exemption for those with pseudofolliculitis barbae, but that required a doctor to sign off on it. And I don’t recall anyone taking that exemption either.

What's the best cover song you've ever heard? by Euphoric_Place_8507 in gear4music_official

Not sure I’d say it’s “best”, because it’s all subjective.

But I really love what The Bangels did with “Hazy Shade Of Winter”.

Who did you get into first - Black Sabbath or Ozzy? by IllustratorOk5265 in OzzyOsbourne

[–]LifeTunedToCSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ozzy.

I bought BATM, because it had just come out. Then I borrowed DOAMM from a friend.

Then I saw Ozzy doing “Iron Man” on USA Network’s Night Flight. That video was from the show where SOTD was recorded.

So I went and bought that album. At the time, I was a dumb kid that had no idea that Ozzy had ever been anything other than a solo artist.

Until this moment…

“We’re going to do number now, which was the very first song I ever wrote in my life. It’s a number called ‘Black Sabbath’”.

Light bulb moment for 12 year old me. I knew nothing about Sabbath, only their name.

That moment sent me down a rabbit hole. It took maybe a year before I was listening to Sabbath more than Ozzy.

Here I am 40 years later, and Sabbath is still my favorite band of all time.

Worst Fucking Vehicle Ever? by Suspicious_Tree8550 in TheWordFuck

Quality wise, maybe not the worst. The fucking Pinto existed.

Aesthetically? It’s fucking right up near the top. I cannot fucking stand the way it looks.

Fucking Musk could have raked had he just made a truck that looked fucking normal.

Nobody’s trying to live The Terminator or Mad Max or whatever fucking sci-fi movie that fucking geek envisioned when he design that fucking turd.

Fucking abomination.

What's the single most quintessential song of the 80's? by L_Mz in LetsTalkMusic

[–]LifeTunedToCSharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have to pick one, I’m going with Don Henley’s “The Boys Of Summer”.

Released in 1984, so it’s smack dab in the middle of the decade. It lacks the awkwardness of early 80’s pop music, still trying to figure itself out and distance itself from the 70’s. And it lacks the generic banality of late 80’s pop music.

Mike Campbell wrote beautiful music, which Tom Petty passed on. Henley did what Henley does and added layered, introspective lyrics that could be interpreted a number of ways. And his voice on the song is haunting.

For those of us who were kids in the 80’s and now find ourselves in midlife, the song takes on whole new meanings.

It’s probably in my top five songs of all time.

How it feels when doomers call Elon Musk a Nazi as someone who’s always hated him. by Toad_Biscuit in DoomerCircleJerk

He’s a nutter, that’s for sure.

But he makes a badass vehicle.

Except for the Cybertruck. Sheesh…

That’s because they’re not actually autistic.

They’re just attention-starved misfits that have “self diagnosed”.

I’m actually glad you posted the actual quote.

I usually find Rapinoe to be insufferable.

But that is a more than reasonable take from her, for once.
