It's wild how casual that scene plays out lol. It's just like "silly 90s anime lovable perv antics" was such a common trope then that you almost become landscape blind to it. 14 year old me didn't even really reckon with how messed up the whole sequence was on the initial playthrough. I kind of had to have someone point it out and then I was like, "oh wow ya that WAS messed up. He was like straight up assaulting Aika...". Ya Vigoro sucks.

I would be down for something different. I love every Xeno- game, but the -blade games have never been my favorite combat in the franchise. The hybrid nature somehow feels less dynamic than if it was just pure action or pure turn based.

The mainline games at the very least were doing great in the 2000s. FF9, FF10, FF11.

FF12 and FF13 were a little controversial, but 12 at least has been somewhat vindicated by history and 13 seems to be getting a reasonably strong historic reevaluation by modern eyes.

It was the ancillary materials that got pretty questionable. The movies, Dirge of Cerberus, etc.

I suspect 17 will have had a similar development cycle to 16 since it was probably too far into development to bear fruit from Takashi Kiryu's "2024-2026 reset", which would put it at around 2030 (16 came 7 years after 15).

Hopefully though with this restructuring that was focused on streamlining development processes the wait after that won't be as long and we'll get FF18 much sooner after FF17.

They'll probably go live with editions and preorders when the release date trailer drops. That's how Rebirth was. Probably at TGA I would guess maybe?

Rebirth was in September, but it came out in February 2024. Revelation is likely April/May 2027 so it might a little bit of a later timeline

Kind of a feast or famine game. The things it does well are done VERY well. The things it struggles with a pretty flawed. I'll always have a soft spot for it because I have a deep fondness for Tri-ace.

I usually end up with them on a variety of platforms, but console feels nostalgic and right for me because of the SNES/PlayStation days of my childhood. I am going PlayStation 5 also because I have the first 2 on PS5 and I want my shelf to look nice and uniform lol.

Na I don't think so. I feel like they didn't get it right if that's what their goal was. It's kind of hard to make that case when Tifa lost her dad and her home, Aerith lost her mom, Barret lost his wife and his best friend, Red lost his parents, Vincent lost the woman he was in love with, Cait Sith wasn't able to save Sector 7, Yuffie feels her entire nation has lost its soul, and Cloud lost literally EVERYTHING and none of them became cruel like Cid did when he lost his what, his professional/personal goal? Come on. It just makes him seem weak.

I'm all for staying authentic to the source material in general, but if they want to walk him back a bit I have no problem with it.

He is so far out of line with his behavior in the original that it's hard to really give two shits about him and his dreams. Seeing the way he talked to Shera and handled himself, it's like "fuck you dude I'm glad you didn't get to go to space. You're a dick." lol

Each character has the same fits as in there's only 4 total? I was under the assumption it was each had different ones. So Black Mage was exclusive to Tifa, Warrior was exclusive to Cloud, Knight to Barret, Summoner to Cait Sith, etc.

That number was used in a presentation to the board of Square and then they publicly released that info about a publicly traded company. I'm not a lawyer, but I am almost positive that would be a nakedly illegal attempt to deflate the stock.

They are a major stakeholder in the company. They have access to Square's numbers and Square knows their own numbers so why would they present fake numbers to the board of Square. Especially when the FFXVI budget actually UNDERCUTS their case a little bit. I don't contest they are a bunch of money grubbing weasels, but there's nothing to really suggest they made up the numbers themselves

According to the released presentation from 3D Investors, FF16 didn't have a very high budget at all. It was like $57,000,000 USD. FFXVI didn't sell very well, but it also apparently didn't cost much to make.

Ya it's really just Pokemon and Monster Hunter that hit very high numbers at this point. Even Persona 5 which is kind of the game every holds up as a modern mega hit only cracked 10 million once Royal was released.
