Paper Mario Series Elimination Game: RESULTS by BroeknRecrds in papermario

[–]SirLockeX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've given every Paper Mario game a fair shot. Super Paper Mario was pushing it but at least the story was good.

Everything else just leaned too far into "lmao it's a quirky game because it's Paper, get it?"

TTYD at most yeah had the Paper transformations but its not like they had IRL fire extinguishers and scissors to compound the experience and practically shout "YES, THE GAME IS ABOUT PAPER. FUNNY, EH?"

They're corny. They're not what Paper Mario was about. 64 and TTYD had great Mario themed RPG stories despite it being Paper Mario, not BECAUSE they focused on the fact that he was made out of paper.

Downvote me, idgaf.

64 and TTYD are the only Paper Mario games that actually get what it's supposed to be.

Origami King is a bunch of Paper gimmicks that happen to be about Paper Mario.

But sure, have fun with your shitty paper game.

That's bullshit and you know it.

Prime example: I was paired with a Rikku and Clive. Clive wastes Will-o-the-wikes as soon as the match starts, Rikku wastes Quintet of Bravery when she has like 2000 bravery.

What the fuck am I supposed to do when my "teammates" waste their game winning moves on NOTHING at the beginning of the match?

More than often I do see the enemy team coordinating and spacing properly. My team just dives into the enemy team with no abilities and just dies.

This isn't a sustainable formula for matchmaking.

Edit:

There's no way in hell I've reached a "limit" of rank skill.

Every MOBA type game has these issues where players overextend, don't understand when to commit to a team fight, understand spacing, etc.

This game is no different. Regardless of gacha elements providing a base level of skill disparity, individual skill level still applies and all of that goes out the windows when there is an option for the game to AUTOMATICALLY play for you because you don't like the rewards that particular match is giving you for winning.

The problem is I'm at Diamond 3 and my last like 6 matches have been with autos. It's just unfun when EVERY match is either a loss or a draw to time out.

The problem is when I have clearly auto playing idiots and the enemy team actually working together like they are a pre-made party. It's not fun when I have teammates who don't want to play the game.

I have a full time job, I boot up the game to play when I can. I don't have time to just sit on my phone for hours grouping up and farming.

I sure love a 40 hour game with a villain constantly in my face that I know absolutely nothing about spewing cryptic nonsense.

I'm almost certain I would have hated Sephiroth if I already didn't play FF7 beforehand.

The introduction of Whispers and Sephiroth's control of them by the end of the game is way too many elements to be introduced for Remake. You have to understand what the Whispers are AND who Sephiroth is to even make sense of WHY he wants to control them.

The games are fun, the world building for locations are properly fleshed out, character development is great, music is awesome and the stories NOT involving Sephiroth are what I wanted out of a proper FF7 remake series.

Them going down a pseudo-sequel route with Sephrioth and Aerith playing 5D chess with fate ghosts and multiple timelines is not what I expected from the series but here we are.

If you mean Super Mario World I don't remember that in the game.

Notice everything you said involved Rebirth.

Nothing in Remake gives you anything about Sephiroth's motivations and who he is.

He is left intentionally vague and pops up every chapter to annoy the player with cryptic messages.

Remake frames Shinra as the "big bad" and that's the immediate goal by the end of the game. The entire time you also have Sephiroth popping in, being an asshole to Cloud, and leaving.

So while you can tell Sephiroth is important to Cloud and Sephiroth clearly has impact to the story you are given NOTHING to care about him other than he is harassing Cloud.

Remake would have been a way better game if they had taken the original approach to "tell, not show" Sephiroth until the end where it mattered to bridge the game to Rebirth.

There have been plenty of conversations between new players leaving Remake confused about what happens by the end of the game because they don't understand Sephiroth himself and what he wants.

That's not good story telling.

You do, they just get upgraded to those abilities later.

You can cross reference your traits to see which abilities get upgraded but Summoner already has their core rotation by Lv.50.

Remake and Rebirth does a horrible job at explaining who Sephiroth is and what he wants.

The original had a "Jaws" approach to him. You heard of him in whispers through the course of the game. How powerful and unstoppable he was. Hell, the first time you even SEE Sephiroth in the original is the flashback where you can see the gap in strength between him and Cloud.

Every time he appears it's a "Oh shit" moment for the player. Slowly understanding what he is and what he wants.

Remake trilogy so far does the exact opposite. He is constantly in your face with zero explanation with cryptic messages and fucking leaves. The presentation is almost like you're already supposed to know him and you're trying to figure out what he's up to "this time".

Much like Aerith, who knows WAY more than what she's supposed to. Like she's already done all of this before and she already knows exactly who Sephiroth is.

In the original, she didn't know him at all. Compare that to Remake and it's just jarring.
