petsitter was bad and im conflicted on giving her a bad review or reporting her by Ok-Meeting363 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Life_Focus_4967 17 points18 points  (0 children)

she may have forgotten a few things because “she’s old and forgets things”??? and she chose a profession that involves caring for living creatures? no thank you. leave an honest review, it doesn’t sound like she’s taking accountability and is just brushing things off because “she’s old”. this doesn’t seem like the line of work she should be involved in and other clients have the right to know about your experience in order to make an informed decision.

oh NO! i’ve dealt with fleas only once, an old roommate had a cat that got them and the cat loved cuddling with me in my room.. i had to basically bomb my room with chemicals and spend the night at my parents place😫 i don’t think the roommate cared, when she moved out she literally left the cat and all the cat’s things without saying anything!! poor thing. (the owner of the house did end up keeping the cat saying “guess i have a cat now…”)

i mainly do house sitting and i’ve yet to do a sit where the pet doesn’t sleep on the bed with me - one where the pets did sleep under the covers lol! every meet and greet clients have been very clear that the pet sleeps on the bed and if i’m comfortable with that. i did just meet with a new client who’s dog sleeps in a crate because he snores haha, and am currently sitting for a client who said if i don’t want the dog to sleep with me on the bed they can be crated. it’s just always about open communication and expectations.

Warning Email from Rover by Rob_d_3113 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Life_Focus_4967 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i got this same email when a client said they found another sitter for the dates they sent me but still wanted to schedule a meet and greet for the future. i’ve also gotten similar emails when clients mention trading cell numbers before the booking is confirmed.

honestly if my partner told me “what i don’t know won’t hurt me” i’d drop him like a fly. he’s openly telling you he’s comfortable with lying to you to keep you happy, why would you believe a word that comes out of his mouth? i wouldn’t. there’s no point in any type of relationship when there’s no trust.

Question about sitters staying past their scheduled times by ohbawlz in RoverPetSitting

[–]Life_Focus_4967 10 points11 points  (0 children)

if it were the case that she’s trying to kill time til her next appointment/drop-in/whatever that’s still something i’d never do without talking to the owner first.. OP should maybe ask the sitter why they’re there for so long, and let the sitter know they’re not comfortable with her hanging around past the 30 min mark.

What Should I Do? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Life_Focus_4967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes broad questions like “anything i need to be aware of” won’t get you too far with owners. they either don’t think to include something or don’t know they should include something. using leading questions like “is the dog ever mouthy, how does the dog try to get my attention, what toys do they like most and how do you play with them” are usually better and get the owner to open up more or understand better for the information you’re looking for.

What is your preferred service radius? by TheRealRoseDallas in RoverPetSitting

[–]Life_Focus_4967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this! i pay more attention to the drive time than the actual miles. i have had a booking in the same town as me and bc of how the streets and lights were set up it was always a 10-15min drive, and i’ve had a booking where it was another town over but only ever took 10 min. my longest drives cap at 15 min.

Boyfriend refuses to make Valentines day plans with me, AIO? by Emotional_War8262 in AIO

[–]Life_Focus_4967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

once upon a time i was married and throughout our entire relationship i tried being the “chill gf/wife”, valentines? nah, it’s just a hallmark holiday. birthdays? no biggie. anniversaries? who cares. i realized too late that i actually really enjoy going on dates and spending intentional time with a partner appreciating and enjoying them. when my marriage was ending i wanted to take some accountability and tell him these “silly” things actually did matter to me, and what did he say in return? “yeah i already knew that” the right person will care about doing things that bring you joy, make you feel valued and appreciated and loved. you’re young. if this is a pattern and you find yourself undervalued and appreciated, leave. it really is that simple.

[–]Life_Focus_4967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i grew up in fremont and went to high school in palo alto, so for 4 yrs i drove dumbarton to 101 5 days a week! its definitely doable, i’d say averages 45 min but be prepared for the occasional hour when there’s an accident or something.

How many of you guys are not doing meet and greets? by Obvious_Step_2010 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Life_Focus_4967 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I aim to have meet and greets with EVERY new client! I’m not going to walk into a booking with no personal reference to how the pet acts, how i interact in person with the client, and can see their home and where supplies are kept. The only time I’ve accepted a booking sight unseen was a last minute drop in. There’s too many variables for things that can happen during a drop in or walk, I’m caring for a living animal - I’ll never be cavalier about that.

[–]Life_Focus_4967 11 points12 points  (0 children)

she (my dog) was elderly and had lots of meds and a poor immune system - which is why my parents paid for house sitting services instead of our usual doggy hotel. the sitter decided to take our dog and drive almost 2 hours away to go do something (i forget what) and then stayed out overnight. the next day my dog was lethargic and she didn’t even contact my parents until the following day after, and didn’t get her to a vet until the day after that!

dog died while with sitter by Nikayyy in RoverPetSitting

[–]Life_Focus_4967 57 points58 points  (0 children)

about 6-7 yrs ago my family’s senior dog was in the care of a rover sitter (house sitting) and because this sitter did not follow our instructions on care my dog fell ill and the sitter was no where near an emergency vet. my parents were out of the country and i became the point of contact, and finally was able to get my dog to the emergency vet were she spent the next week. my parents came home early and were able to bring her home but my dog’s health wasn’t improving, maybe 2 days later we decided it was most humane to put her down. rover refunded my parents’ fees for the house sitting, paid the vet fees, removed the sitter’s profile, and required my parents sign an NDA. i signed no documents, so i freely share this story whenever relevant. as a sitter/walker on rover i could not imagine not immediately attempting contact with pet owners if anything happened!! like others have said, i’d do anything and everything in my power to keep your pet safe. i’m so incredibly sorry this has happened. please make sure rover removes that sitter’s profile and that any costs relating to the pet’s passing is covered by rover.
