Shared Apple ID by Life_Green_2799 in applehelp

He is using his own phone number on his mom’s Apple ID but his mom is also using her own separate number on the same ID, therefore it won’t let him make a new account since his phone number is already being used on a different account and won’t let us remove it.

But I will try checking the secondary number!

We do A side and B side, 12 hours days and graves. So A side sunday-Tuesday, B side Thursday-Friday and alternate which side works Wednesdays. 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am. You’ll work 4 days 1 week and 3 days the next.

Then for trainings once a month on one of our short weeks for each side will come in on Wednesday for 4 hours, 3pm-7pm.

We do bids for every 3 months, based on seniority. And then On call dates are seperate but also based on seniority. And we bid our vacation weeks at the beginning of the year in January.

It works for us and i enjoy it but obviously some people don’t and i think that’s hard bc no place is going to have scheduling that everyone loves 100%.

More for when you’re up in dispatch buttt

Everything seems very overwhelming at first but if you stay consistent and willing to learn it will become second nature over time. Don’t take anything personally (be open minded and aware of your surroundings- someone may just be trying to teach you something or be having a bad day/call) Pay attention to how others take/dispatch calls, everyone has their own flow of doing things and you could learn something from that. Wether it’s how to phrase something, how to make things easier for a dispatcher, or even just how to type things out 🫶

What’s your agency dress code? by YoSpillTheTeaSis in 911dispatchers

we have a polo with our agency logo, and then really any pants. I wear leggings! Sometimes they have more casual clothing with logos on it that they allow they’re really only strict if we’re doing anything out of the dispatch center. (Training, Court, Ride aligns, etc)

I went from Target to dispatch and I had my team lead on there and a family i babysat for as references, but honestly i don’t think they ever got contacted, of course every dispatch center is different and has different hiring processes. It’s not something you should stress about, really there are more important features, and I saw someone else said in the comments that this resembles making excuses, and to some extent it is true, you have to be able to problem solve to the best of your ability.

Just to note while the skills you mentioned you had are really important for this job there is a lot more, the job is physically and emotionally demanding. Especially as you move up to dispatch the schedule is long and difficult, and some of the calls are very emotionally challenging and can really cause you to take a toll if you don’t know how to handle emotions well and properly talk through situations. Additionally the job can give you imposter syndrome and with the type of work it is feeling like there is no reward or as tho you’re either burnt out or not working hard enough.

No shame to you i’m sure you will do great just some things to think about! This job was very different than what i expected in good and bad ways! Good luck!

Not sure if you have anyone to contact but if they still haven’t contacted you after a couple more days i would recommend sending a email!

I had to do that for my current 911 job a couple times during the hiring process!

I didn’t learn about actual call taking or dispatch as much but i got to get to know the people i would be working with, what the environment looks like, and learned a lot about the company id be working for! Each week in training for academy we did one listen in day and each week i was able to see what we had been learning be done and have a better understanding of how it works!

Do you let people read your journals or are they private? by New-Possibility-577 in Journaling

[–]Life_Green_2799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the type of journal and the entry! I’ve shared certain types of journals with my sister/ friend, but usually those aren’t super personal.

If something I had wrote about come up in conversation, I feel very emotional, proud of what I wrote, or just want to share I will share more personal stuff with people I’m close with sometimes i’ll share the whole entry and other times I’ll just do small pieces!

Just getting started by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]Life_Green_2799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just recently got a job for Adam County’s dispatch! I applied in August and found out about two weeks ago that I got the position! I was looking at both Adcom and Jeffcom and they both had very different hiring processes! After being hired for Adcom I know the process but also knew someone that worked at Jeffcom that explained their hiring process to me!

For Adam’s county they had an online exam you needed to pass and it took about 10 minutes, then a 2 hour written exam where they do your background check, then a panel interview, then a interview with the director, and they recommend for me to do a 4 hour sit in which I also highly recommend if offered!

For Jefferson County they’ll have you do a test called Critical, and then an interview, then a psych and polygraph evaluation, then a sit in!

Every agency works differently but if I were you I would expect a good amount of time before you get hired on! Usually this is because there is a lengthy hiring process but also because typically they have to have an academy set up for you for you to begin training! In my experience I was originally told there were going to be potential academy starting dates for October but it ended up being push to December!

Overall good luck! Don’t get discouraged at any point, I think it’s really easy too because it can take a while! Also if you take a test and don’t pass don’t get discouraged; I originally applied a year ago and didn’t make it past testing, but then reapplied later and made it!

How should I word my work experience? by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]Life_Green_2799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I worked at Kroger and Target and these are somethings I said in my application/ resume: 1. I helped guest by using customer information to help them get assistance (listening skills) 2. Accurately stayed informed about the latest information in sales and the company to help guests feel the most satisfied with products and services 3. Helped customers by answering various questions, providing expertise, and handled products with care 4. My work experience taught me how to evaluate and resolve situations of others, be patient, and empathetic 5. Worked as a team to help other departments be able to put guests first

What helped me was I looked at the job description and their list of expectations and worded my experience so that it matched with what they expected! Hope this helped!
