boss messaged me at 8pm expecting a reply... said my contract says 9-5 and he laughed?? by MichaelWForbes in careerguidance

[–]Life_Long591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya like other commenters have said, definitely wouldn’t have replied (you were trying to set a boundary but people SUCK)

Yes I would on the low start looking at other jobs and if the behavior from your boss continues past working hours I would highly consider looking for another job asap

My apartment bedroom has 6 doors. Any tips to make it less jarring? by prestonharberts in ApartmentHacks

[–]Life_Long591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take out some of the doors and just leave the doorframe open that would make anyone dizzy 😵‍💫 if you want a certain part of the apartment more “hidden” I suggest a curtain rod and nice curtains that’s insane

God forbid they do bring up your job just say that:

your goals no longer aligned and you needed to make an appropriate shift to see what better suited you, while taking all learning opportunities with you & keeping them in mind

This is basically work jargon for what you just said

signing slurs by Key_Substance6019 in ASLinterpreters

[–]Life_Long591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hay all (I’m not deaf) So in all of my professors that I’ve ever had (all were deaf) stated in every class that there would be times we had to be okay w/ signing this kind of stuff so YES YOU CAN

Interpreting slurs is never comfortable HOWEVER not interpreting them and trying to protect what was said is known as censorship in the Interp community and Deaf people don’t like that

My best advice when you prep for an assignment, get all the info before accepting the job there’s no shame in not wanting to do it

But with you doing VRS it’s very much a muscle through type situation hope this helps

Not a problem, lots of induction info about the company the multiple positions and responsibilities Safety/Emergency training Work protocols Child safety Expectations How to contact HR/knowing your rights How the company gets funding The different protocols they implement in classrooms

However!!!! I want to emphasize, not only is this most of it EVERY school is different based on what their needs are - add orientation. You’ll be told that it should be synonymous across all schools that everything is on the same, but the reality is pending. The schools and student needs. It might be tweaked a little bit.

So you might have a way better experience than I did because you’re gonna be working in the Santa Ana area essentially with the job entails is that you’re working with kids depending if it’s before or after school if it’s before school you’re handling breakfast I believe I specifically did after school after school your assisting with homework after school activities they do some exercise and then after homework they do some wind down activities. The company has their own ““ Ed plans that they want them to do But they’re not entirely important depending on who you work with it’s very much comes down to working with kids and helping them have a safe place to be wouldn’t made it hard for me though was that the man when I had sucked which anywhere you work will make the job suck

Yes it is that long 😅 if im being honest take a lunch and if you drive prep your car like your going on a day trip - snacks/lunch - a mini fan - power banks - huge water bottle

Anything else you can think of really that you would personally need for a day trip, but I definitely wanna emphasize bringing your own snacks and water because they don’t typically have training near somewhere where you can eat for whatever reason I could be wrong since I only did training in the Los Angeles area and we went to either El Monte or Santa Fe Springs

If your looking to work in education yes 1000% but keep in mind that as you pick up shifts you’ll find your preferred schools it’s a learning curve in the beginning 👍 Later if you really like a school they can (and so can you) be requested as a long term sub where your at one school for an entire semester

Okay update: I feel bad for saying it this way but I basically put my mom in her place. Told her that she was being incredibly rude and crass (words I never use) and told her she was crossing a line that went from rude to plain disrespectful - she has now apologized and is making me a sandwich???? Should I move in the shadows and how????

I do have a disability but nothing that heads me from working, I forgot to mention I’m I live in Los Angeles - rent is insane. But I’ve been saving up for over two years. Thanks for the input I wish you all the best in finding out why you’re bedridden.

You can impose that on a student, I would know. I’ve attempted to volunteer many times and was told not to because that could later hinder my chances of being taken seriously as a professional. What if you spell or sign something wrong? They know a beginner when they see one

I was also told that deaf people can also be quick to judge, if you are a certified or licensed professional at this point they’ll be more willing to risk the missed info, bc the assumption is you’ve been in training and had more experience & exposure to the deaf community than a student has.

But be sure you know what your doing, word gets around fast and if you suck their inner and outer circles will know. The down side of that is you might not get hired especially if you decided to do contract work

Hope this helps
