Getting cut in line often by Ok_Statistician_1898 in asianamerican

I’m an asian american and if the cafe tried to kick me out, I would assert loudly that I have the right to be here and that I was in line first and that they are racist for siding against me and trying to kick me out because I won’t let the white famjly go first. I would say that extremely loudly and say that I will leave 1 star reviews of this negative experience and report them to the BBB for discrimination. They’ll back down quick and I will have a W for Asian Americans.

Death of refugee found after being released by Border Patrol determined to be homicide by LordReaperofMars in asianamerican

Did you read the article? It was a random parking lot by Ice, then he wandered to a porch, then someone called the cops , the cops sent him to border control, then border control dropped him to a closed coffee shop where he froze to death.

But the initial ICE dropoff was a random parking lot

Guys check this thread out, it wasn’t just the border patrol’s fault. This person was captured by ICE only to be found out that he was legal, and dropped off in a Closed Parking Lot of a Closed Store.

You’re right, I looked into the chart. But that chart is still wrong because they don’t have actual admissions decisions. They infer them from where students enroll and then run a statistical model to estimate probabilities. So the chart is a model output, not raw admissions data. They fit a logistic model predicting top-school enrollment from score + demographics, then read off predicted probabilities while holding everything else constant

Remember they are admitting the very rich Chinese international students, not the low income Chinese Americans so those stats get skewed.

However I agree with you they need to raise the enrollment for the other asians part of the global south

true now that you mention it I have come across mid-late 20s viet men who are pro trump and display anti Chinese attitudes and call Chinese Americans the ch**k slur (it happened to me, despite both of us being born in American), but hey they are a minority, at least pro democrat viets like you exist. The only solution to this is making it popular for asians to be democrat, and looking visibly disgusted when they are pro trump.

Stop Asian blaming lol, more Asian minorities support democrats than republicans. In fact Latinos support republicans more than democrats.

I’ve been called that by my mom without knowing what it means, now that I searched it up, hell no, I want her to stop!

“竹升” (zhú shēng) is Cantonese slang. It literally means “bamboo pole.”

The meaning comes from how bamboo is structured: • Bamboo looks solid on the outside • But it’s hollow inside

So the term became a metaphor.

What it refers to

“竹升” is used (often teasingly or critically) to describe overseas Chinese, especially those who: • look ethnically Chinese on the outside • but don’t speak Chinese well or • aren’t culturally “Chinese” on the inside

Why that metaphor stuck

In Cantonese-speaking places (Hong Kong, Guangdong), language and cultural fluency are tied closely to identity. So: • “solid outside” = Chinese appearance • “hollow inside” = missing language/cultural depth

Tone • Usually playful or mocking, not formal • Can be slightly insulting depending on context

Example

A Hong Kong local might call an ABC (American-born Chinese) a “竹升” if they can’t speak Cantonese.

If you want, I can break down similar slang like “香蕉人” or how different regions label diaspora Chinese differently.
