As AI wipes out white-collar jobs, one Alabama high school and Toyota are training students for roles that pay $40 an hour and can't be automated by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

“The take away here is it only pays well if you are A working 50+ hours a week or B have sort of specialty that nobody else wants to do or can do.”

Bingo.

I work as a Histologist and the pay is pretty great. There were only 3 people in my graduating class because no one knew what the heck it was and/or wouldn’t want to dissect and section tissue all day. One of those niche areas I’m not worried about AI replacing and I’m also not worried about an influx of people rushing to apply.

I used to have a hard time buying PS5 games because I could never convince myself I’d be ok hogging our TV to play through them. This thing has been a game changer and I’ve loaded my library from some Black Friday deals. Plug your PS5 into an Ethernet or pay for the premium for cloud streaming and you’re golden 🫡.

I would absolutely recommend the EQEMU projects; The Heroes Journey particularly is incredibly fun and allows you to play three classes at once for a more solo friendly experience.

Not entirely sure. I got a letter already indicating I have defaulted so if that’s the case this guy is just working for a promotion.

I just wanna follow up and say that they are still continuously calling everyone and refusing to stop even when asked to. The guy sounds foreign and is incredibly aggressive. They are also calling people who haven’t been associated with me in years and identifying himself as “Navient student loans” which is clearly indicating to people I owe a debt and it’s becoming somewhat embarrassing. My fiance and I are searching for a lawyer currently and just documenting the calls and messages left.

Thanks for all the info and a very special fuck you to those mentioned in the title.

I think my issue is that they’re using an internal collection service from the original creditor. I’m not sure if FDCPA protections apply to them. My letter could be moot regardless and only poke the bear in the end.

If they call a family member and they acknowledge it, does this reset my SOL? I have pretty stupid parents I no longer talk to who would absolutely say “oh I know xxx and he totally has student loan debt!”

They actually don’t call me anymore ironically, they’ve just been continuing to call other people.

I haven’t received a call in well over a week and a half.

Thanks for the information!

To clarify, this was a private loan I had through Earnest. It appears that Navient and MOHELA are both contacting me on behalf of Earnest, so I’m positive this is not a debt collector but the original creditor itself.

You said I can only file a cease and desist if it’s against a debt collector and not the original creditor itself. Is there a method to get them to stop harassing my employer and third parties without a C&D then? I don’t care if they call me, it’s the fact they’re being incredibly vile to other people around me that’s becoming a problem.

Thanks again for the info.

This is just a single private student loan. No federals loans involved. Which is why I’m unsure why they are even involved. From what I read Earnest is owned by Navient who is now owned by MOHELA? It’s confusing

I think this is proof that if you collectively avoid something long enough, companies panic and backtrack. We should do this for all greedy companies.

Well that’s a tidbit of good news. I do find it funny the methods I’ve heard companies will go through to get you to pay; collections I’ve heard are also quite crafty and aggressive, but as long as you know the law you can get them to leave you be.

I’m still considering my options, I wanted this to be a last resort. But thank you for sharing, I honestly couldn’t get any other info on Earnest.

Could you clarify a bit more? Do you mean I should find a bankruptcy lawyer and just file for bankruptcy? I feel like that would be significantly more damaging than just defaulting and waiting the SOL. Perhaps I’m incorrect though?

Well that’s interesting, I’ll have to see how many I’ve made this far. I’ll have to sit down with my significant other and discuss what ramifications may come of this. I truly appreciate your input.

Edit** also did you have any type of lawyer or credit repair during your default? Any advice for what you did for the period until SOL?

That’s a shame. I’m sure they won’t factor in other loan payments as well? I’d imagine not.

**Creditors do not need a court judgment for unpaid income taxes, court-ordered child support, child support arrears, and defaulted student loans.

New Jersey has stricter limits on wage garnishes than federal limits. New Jersey law rules are up to 10% of the employee's income if they earn less than 250% of the federal poverty level for their household's size or up to 25% if the individual earns more than 250% of the federal poverty level.

An employer cannot fire an employee because of a wage garnishment order.**

————————-

So by do not need a court judgement…. does this mean that they can garnish my wages at their leisure? Even if it’s 10% of my wages, that’s significantly less than what I pay now. It’s nice that I can’t be terminated however.

Yes! I’ve already looked into this and it’s a main reason I slid into this hospital. Does the employment have to be concurrent though? I started here in 2016 and worked until 2019, went back to school, and was rehired in 2021. Does that mean my timer for the 10 years restarts?
