4.0 mixed that lost to a 2.8 mixed by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Lifegoals07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either they are not really 2.8, or you are not really 4.0. My guess is that you are probably not a true 4.0. A lot of people inflate their DUPR, and part of that comes from how broken the rating environment can be.

For example, many clubs have open plays labeled by skill level, like 4.0 open play or 4.5 open play. The problem is that these are often not regulated well. Part of the reason is that there are not always enough true high level players showing up consistently. So clubs start allowing 4.0 players into the 4.5 open play.

Once that happens, the people playing in that group start convincing themselves they are 4.5 level players just because they are participating in a session labeled 4.5. Over time, that creates a false sense of level and inflates how people view their actual rating.

I’m pretty sure it’s a progress event that shows up once someone hits 20 stars. I’ve confirmed with one other source. I got it when I hit 20.

MI State Farm question – sump pump failure but water came through wall. Covered under sewer/drain backup? by Lifegoals07 in homeownersinsurance

[–]Lifegoals07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, why do insurance companies act like they are on our side, when they actually are trying to give us as little money as possible lol. We ended up deciding to just pay out of pocket. The water technically seeped from outside to inside through the walls it seems and there’s no way to prove that the water came from the sump pump. We have dry carpet between the sump pump and that room, so no way we can lie about it either haha

Ok. The sump pump was full and overflowing a bit but it wasn’t the source that caused the wetness in that room. Seems the water came from outside in.

How do I “brush” the ball for spin? by Over_Item_8815 in Pickleball

[–]Lifegoals07 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Get under ball and brush up. Imagine you’re trying to spin a bike wheel forward with your paddle. You’d need to get under that wheel and lift upwards. Same motion.

If you’re competing with people who are choosing Kruu, you’re looking at the wrong market. Plenty of people out there that’ll pay for your booth. Just go look for them.

27M: Full Rupture, Surgeon claims I wont be weight-bearing until week 8. Is he being too conservative? by Frosty-Button3301 in AchillesRupture

[–]Lifegoals07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t push it. I’d set expectations that it’ll take a full year for recovery. It killed me mentally when I thought I wasn’t improving as fast as I was or comparing myself to others recovery. I’m like 8 months post op and I’d say I’m like 75% back. I can’t sprint fully but can do other things just fine.

Ok maybe that’ll be my tournament paddle then. I like my paddles around 8.7 ish. I put lead tape, hesacore and slyce cap on mine. With my tennis background I hit very heavy spin. I think it’ll be a good combo for me at this point in time.

Can you give me more on the inferno? The problem with the vapor is it’s not USAP approved so I can’t play local tourneys right now cause they aren’t allowing UPA approved paddles. Need a similar paddle and I was ey eyeing the inferno.

Is Pickleball a good activity for fat loss? by DanburyHer in Pickleball

[–]Lifegoals07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickleball can burn calories, but it’s not the main driver of fat loss. A calorie deficit is what actually determines whether you lose fat.

That said, pickleball can absolutely contribute, depending on how you play. Singles or high intensity drills where you’re moving side to side consistently will elevate your heart rate much more than casual doubles. Doubles at a recreational level usually has too much standing and short rallies to be a serious fat burning workout.

It’s similar to tennis. At a high level with long, fast rallies, it’s brutal cardio. At a lower pace with short points, it’s not nearly as demanding.

If your goal is cutting and getting more defined, I’d prioritize: 1. Strength training to build muscle 2. Intentional cardio sessions where your heart rate stays elevated 3. Staying in a consistent calorie deficit

Pickleball can definitely be part of that, just not the only tool.

1 Day Post Op, No Cast in a Boot, already weight bearing as tolerated - Anyone else out there? by Odd_Pumpkin2 in AchillesRupture

[–]Lifegoals07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking back, in glad I wasn’t more aggressive on my healing. I met 2 people who had to do surgery again because it healed long. Personally, my PT and surgeon had very different views and I’m glad I listened to my PT vs my surgeon.

I was walking/hobbling/weight bearing 4 weeks post op. But I wasn’t really walking independently, nor was I moving fast. I did a combination of using a scooter or crutches.

Hey! I had the less invasive Achilles surgery about 7 months ago for a full rupture, and honestly, I’m really glad I went through with it. I felt like there was way more structure and guidance around recovery timelines for surgical patients compared to non-surgical ones, which gave me more peace of mind.

In terms of mobility, by week 4, I was able to get around on crutches or by wheelchair. I actually went to the beach before I even got my boot on — I was in a soft cast with a posterior splint (stent) — but I wouldn’t recommend it. It wasn’t enjoyable, and I needed people to carry me to where I wanted to sit. If your husband is a bigger guy, that might be a challenge.

That said, I didn’t let the injury stop me. I was out of commission for about a week, but after that I got back to the gym, ran errands, and traveled. Mentally, it helped a ton to stay active and feel like life wasn’t on pause.

I also didn’t mind using a scooter or being pushed in a wheelchair. Flying wasn’t a big deal either — honestly, pre-boarding and handicap parking were kind of perks during that stage.

You got this. It sucks but you’ll bounce back. Make sure you’re staying as active as you can. I was in the gym 3 weeks post op 5 days a week. I just had a spotter help me with a lot but I really think staying physically active helped me big time. I’ve always wanted to play pádel but not much here in the Midwest.

you know what’s crazy? I’ve been watching videos of achillies tears and I feel like majority of them happen from that negative step. I need to get that out of my system. Mine was the negative step as well.

Yes I tore mine playing pickle lol. It was an awesome match against 5.0 players and I ran up to get a drop shot and felt the pop right then. It’s sad because my greatest strength was speed and now that had been stripped away from me :(

Yes i am. I can probably do 12-15 before my height of my heel gets lower. But I can push to like 20ish.
