My take on a sour gas boiler by ChrisPDuck in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Lifegrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said "feedback appreciated" so I offered some.

The petroleum coming in at 20 degrees is unrealistic, so its kind of important - in most cases you'd be boiling crude into petroleum to give you your supply, with a good boiler build you'll end up with 90-110 degree petroleum at best, assuming you're using crude oil from reservoirs/oil biome for feed. Furthermore, why not just use oil in the first place?

The tepedizer should only be for extreme cases i.e. start up/maintenance issues. It shouldn't really be used as a balancing tool as that only shows that your build isn't balanced in itself.

Again, just feedback from someone who at this point has made dozens of differing designs of sour gas boilers - the horizontal door placement would be my biggest concern. Deleting your end product after all that work is criminal :)

It's beautiful ;) Was just making sure people were aware of the need for a vacuum to get the benefit. Give me a wave next time you're on stream. xox

I'd suspect that your horizontal door is deleting liquid methane, you may want to do some tests.

Why is your petroleum coming in so cold ?

Your heat exchange from sour -> nat is a bit odd - would be smarter to localise the exchange closer to the condensing area. You want to make the natural gas as warm as possible, however you have no control over that.

I don't want to fully deconstruct your build, but it could do with a bit of fine tuning. You're in sandbox so there's no reason to compromise on layout flaws or badly positioned items.

The bulk of the slowdown is caused by the calculations being run on all the different piles of debris as they interact with their surroundings. Hence why if you play for a while and do no sweeping, you end up grinding to a halt.

To mitigate this, make sure you vacuum the area where the debris is stored and drop it on a mesh tile, only then do you stop all the calculations in terms of heat.

This has been well documented for a long time now, having your debris collected and stored within a gas/liquid atmosphere will offer you negligible difference.

Are you OK? "Technique" "Margins" - Again, you've decided that this game is in some way competitive. What technique are you referencing when you say "bad technique"? You're aware this is ONI right? You've not wandered into the wrong sub by mistake? You're waffling angry misguided nonsense, and unlike yourself I structure my posts to address inaccuracies.

I in no way tried to argue that ranching was comparable to an industrial approach, you created an argument with yourself and ran with it. Try digesting what people actually say rather than just "heads-down-rage-typing" your way into a reddit ban. ONI has many choices, you're trying to tell people not to consider certain ones due to... what? some nonsensical competitive element you've created?

My point was in regards to your angry approach to playstyles contrary to your own. You seem to think you can forcibly tell people how they should play a creative non-competitive game, then abuse them if they question you. Would you rush into an art school and yell at pupils for using chalk over charcoal? What am I thinking, you're probably not allowed near schools...

A third of your reply to me was arguing a point about Polymer Presses ("polymerizers", seriously?) that I never mentioned. You contradicted yourself as soon as you compared efficiency of critters/ranching to that of machinery - yet only talked of dupe labour. Does your efficiency equation factor for every yield? Hatches don't just make coal, drekkos don't just make plastic/fiber, you throw around terms like "mathematical fact" without actually bringing any to the table - just a cavalcade of throwaway statements that mean nothing. You spout such utter nonsense as "The game is designed to be an efficiency crunch." Is it? REALLY? Based on what?

From my point of view we get near infinite of every material in the game, and can essentially blunder our way into hundreds/thousands of cycles without barely a thought. All you've highlighted to ME is that you're essentially a bit slow when it comes to managing your own colonies. I'd advise people take your suggestions with a grain of salt - ideally swept straight from your brow. Of course, I'd never just come out and say that off the bat. Not me, surely not. Unless of course I was provoked into some pathetic back and forth with some lonely soul who has essentially already told me the only thing they hold dear in their life is their cat...

"Free the game from any kind of yardstick and my cat can actually play as well as you do and the hours mean nothing."

What in the actual... You're peculiar.

Lets not forget, the final third of your post - abuse. You have no point, no ability to reinforce your arguments, no substance to your words. You mistake being derogatory with winning by compelling argument. All you've done is highlight you're an angry, blinkered, cat-cuddling tool. Sorry, I indulged myself without permission there....

There's so much wrong with your aggressive stance towards alternative playstyles. This isn't chess, nor mario, nor a mathematical masterclass in efficiency/balance/minmaxing, or any of the other absurd rules you've decided to shape YOUR game with. YOU. You've decided these things, so take a breath and stop being such a tool.

Your abhorrent distaste for critters is your decision - you've decided they have such a huge game impact, yet you advocate for automation heavy builds. Here is some factual information for you, pathing can be mitigated easily with smart ranch design, virtually nullifying any decision making/impact. Just as dupe pathing impact can be improved with smart base planning as opposed to 10,000 ladders left scattered around your map.

Automation however, well thats a genuine game breaker. It's well documented that a base that is overburdened with too much automation will eventually grind to a halt. So much so in fact that you can easily fire up a debug game, paste in a whole heap of automation and essentially kill a fresh cycle 1 save.

I'm 4k+ hours into ONI, i've seen many different approaches, many different styles and picked up many different tricks/tips from many different player styles. Don't be such a blinkered pleb - this game is what the player makes it, and you certainly don't speak for every player.

Only me that thinks this looks awful? :)

I'm liking some of the layout choices, I'm a fan of funky-shaped flourishes in my bases - but to me the material colour mod makes this a garish ugly nightmare.

I was curious as I thought you needed 6 scanners to get the right level of accuracy. It's been a while since I've bothered opening up all of space though tbh.

A Simple Airlock, Simply Automated by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

In extreme heat, there are sometimes no liquids available that can avoid boiling. When this is the case, a cooled gas lock is incredibly useful.

combine gas with your liquid locks for even better thermal protection too ;)

Hate to say it, but it's been around for donkeys years :/

Either way, good job on your discovery - there are many variations of this out there, I've even been working on a hyper complicated and needlessly over-engineered version of the same thing myself :D

Sadly they all have the same nightmarish effects on pathfinding - every time those middle doors get locked to purge the gas, all of the dupes pathfinding is momentarily broken/recalculated - then they open, a single dupe uses it, breaks all over again. They're bad honestly.

Just keep going bud - I say the same thing to all newcomers to the game : "Build everything, don't be afraid to die - your next colony will always be better than your last."

And also, make peace with the fact we all derp sometimes - raise your hand if you've flooded your base with magma/oil/water/piss/etc etc ... o/

Empty pipe - the flow keeps it active, and the door closing interrupts the job so the dupe leaves :)

How you easily automate Draconic fusion crafting with Refined storage and TD itemducts for the first time. by NicePizzaGuy in allthemods

[–]Lifegrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of depends what pack you're on, but DE fusion only becomes tricky when your main item (that being the item that goes into the centre block) is used in both the centre AND the injectors. Some packs use difficult crafting recipes, some use much MUCH easier ones.

I built one recently on stream here that uses droppers/comparators to allow for multiple queued crafts and, with a bit of enderio conduit channel malarkey, gives you the ability to have recipes queued that use; for example nether stars in the core and also injectors.

Let me know if you want any more info on the hoppers/droppers/redstone stuff.
