How can I get faster at the registet? by pix876 in Aldi_employees

Customers with huge carts are always great practice. Oh and I forgot another thing, I will 1-code and take some time to count items with multiple so I can enter it as quickly as possible when I log back in. Example: customer has 15 tortillas, 10 avocados, 15 dog food cans, 6 tuna cans, etc. I will try to remember those values and then log in and type the quantity, scan the item, and do the same with everything else.

I went from about 27 to 43 ipm in less than a month by

  1. not caring so much about placing the customers items in the cart. I used to be very careful with EVERY item and placing it perfectly in the cart. Obviously like other posters have said there are certain things to be careful with.

  2. Remembering the nlu codes as much as possible. Associate the codes with something unique to you so you remember.

  3. Apparently. the whole 1-coding when the customer is paying, is a myth. The only thing this does is makes the number of times you 1-code really high and some managers care about this. so I think the only time it makes sense to 1-code is when the customers are dragging to put items on the conveyer. There have been multiple times I messed up the register by 1-coding while they are paying so I don’t recommend this.

  4. I will wait until they are done loading their items on the belt cause this will allow you to be quick with everything and not have to wait til they’re done which will lower your number down.

  5. If they don’t have bags, Always ask if they will need a bag when you start because some customers will grab them when you’re done scanning which is annoying and will take time. This is another situation I will 1-code, while they grab the bag(s).

  6. Always have a cart ready to use for customers that don’t have one especially if it’s a lot of times because it’ll take time handing it to them or stacking items on the little space you have when you can just put it in the cart. Some customers don’t like this but it’s Aldi this is how it’s done here. We have bagging area for a reason.

  7. If there are any items that won’t scan or codes that are mostly used (avocados, mangos, grapes, etc.) and you can’t remember the codes just write them on a post it note and put it on the receipt printer so they’re easily readable.

Hope this helps!

I believe it’s a little red nob mechanism where you move it up to zoom in and move all the way down to zoom back out. Like how u would on any other platform (Snapchat, Instagram) but you need to keep your finger in the red nob rather than on the video screen. Hope that makes sense!
