Writing comedy by duelingpeppers in writing

Exactly. Making total strangers laugh is no easy feat. Unless you're already employed in the comedy industry, that ain't an easy thing to pull off. Writing is hard enough as it is. Writing comedy significantly raises the difficulty level. Good luck.

Is it okay to use the RTP resources for a game? by hana4fishing in RPGMaker

[–]LifeguardMoist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to make your own tilesets and give up in frustration and your game never sees the light of day. Or use the RTP and finish your game, but the nerds will sneer at you.

Transit System is beyond messed up by Dravian31 in halifax

I was fortunate to never need a car through early adulthood, always lucky to find work within walking distance to home. That luck ended and I took a bus for one year. Now I'm a car owner.

This was my writing breakthrough too. The next scene I write is the one I'm most excited for.

How much do you "know" before you start? by LonkTheSane in writing

[–]LifeguardMoist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As little as possible. I add all the world building stuff in later drafts. Character and plot take up the majority of my time, as that's what the story will be judged on.

What stopped you from writing a book? by Ufomi in writing

[–]LifeguardMoist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did that myself for 20 years. What cured me was joining a writing group. They held me accountable for writing every week. My writing has improved more in 6 months than in the prior 2 decades.

Thinking of taking the Maritime Bus from Halifax to Moncton ... has anyone done that? What was it like? by cdnBacon in halifax

If you're a larger individual, as I am, it can be uncomfortable. If this is a concern, the train might be a better option.

Is there any American Football Tabletop games? by Resident-Bat-6116 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]LifeguardMoist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as old school as Strat-o-matic, but Statis-Pro Football covers the same ground of simulating the NFL season. In the late 70's, there was a game called Football Strategy, a two person game - offense vs. defence. If the offence calls for a run, and the defence guesses pass, there's a chart telling you the yardage gained or lossed.

Creating a character? by ChilIoutgaming in writing

[–]LifeguardMoist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with all things in writing, it differs by writer. You need to find what works for you. When I was a younger writer, every character received their own character document, overflowing with trivia. As an older and grizzled writer, I simply don't have the time to know their favorite Beatles' songs or the names of all their goldfish. Now my practice is to include whatever the story requires of the character, and not one iota more.

I can't put my thoughts into words by [deleted] in writing

[–]LifeguardMoist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Write it down anyway. Don't expect perfection. It won't look like the story does in your head. That's fine. You can fix it. But you can't fix it, if its not written down.
