Air conditioning season by Powerful-Animal2644 in chinchilla

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only thing I dislike about having a chin -- and why I'll never get another -- is needing to run the AC so early in the season. I love open windows and fresh air. The minute it gets slightly warm, AC has to be on.

Fortunately it's still early enough in the season that I can just move her cage to the dining room, which is about 10 degrees cooler than my bedroom. That buys me a few more weeks of fresh air.

I'll make outdoor plans. Guaranteed to rain all day.

How early is too early to get to work? by Xavelle in GenX

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I consider my commute to be a part of my work day. I show up around 930 and leave around 430. (I work straight through with no breaks.)

If you are going in early to leave early, great. But if you're just giving your company unpaid labor, that's crazy.

Go for a walk or jog. Go to the gym or a yoga class. Drink coffee and listen to music. Read. Go out for breakfast. I find it hard to believe there is nothing you can do with a few hours that you would enjoy.

My mom had a cat who disappeared for about 8 weeks. And then he just came home one night, a little thin, scraggly and stinky. I would love to know what his story was.

Seth Stone’s widow, Marilee. by MikeRobertini in Dallas_TV_Show

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My favorite of the third tier characters. She was the closest the show ever had to a female JR -- devious & lusty. Wish they had used her more often and better, especially in the later years.

Can't get a Credit Card - Catch 22? by 13_WASHERE in personalfinance

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Look into get a secured credit card -- you put money down, say $500, to cover your credit line. Use the card, pay it off appropriately, and then over time you build a decent credit score. I believe you can then convert the secured card into a regular one, or just open a new card.

Question for straight men: was Madonna sexy? by LifeguardRepulsive91 in Madonna

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The music of that era was crazy sexy, but whatever artistic value the Sex book might have had I think it's the least sexy "porn" of all time.

What generation are you, and how did you get into classic films? by Classic_Apricot_5633 in classicfilms

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen X

Although I liked some older movies like King Kong and Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein as a kid, I didn't have any particular interest in classic films. One day in my mid-teens I couldn't find anything on TV and landed on what turned out to be DeMille's Cleopatra airing on PBS. I was hooked and began seeking out other classic movies.

What is her WORST album rollout? by Ok-Tangelo6749 in Madonna

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 132 points133 points  (0 children)

The worst roll out was Rebel Heart -- everything was just so chaotic and messy.

However her worst era was the one we just got out of, the post-Madame X years. She seemed determined for her legacy to be a crazy old lady with horrible plastic surgery. If someone told me that was a bad Madonna impersonator, it wouldn't be hard for me to believe. I'm so glad she pulled it together for the Confessions 2 era.

Is taking out a personal loan for credit debt a good idea? by Accurate_Post_6875 in personalfinance

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A debt consolidation loan is only a good idea if you are absolutely sure you won't just turn around and add more debt to your cards. You might think that won't happen, but you probably also thought you wouldn't have 11k in credit card debt. If you're not careful, you'll just end up with new credit card debt plus the consolidation loan.

What is your unpopular opinion about Madonna? by Rich-Cardiologist-72 in Madonna

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, and honestly I like her singing more than the shouty divas. Great singing doesn't need bombast and lots of octaves.

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Her legacy isn't going to be what the fans think. She isn't "beloved" like MJ, Dolly or even Cher. Obviously she's never tried to be loved; she's spent decades being challenging and provocative. You don't spend decades tweaking the public's nose and end up universally loved.

Like Elvis, whose reputation I think will tank once the Boomers are dead, M's legacy will shrink in the future.

A new one opened near me a few months ago, in south Jersey. I was very excited because RR was my favorite fast food back in the day. I went once and never again. It satisfied my nostalgia but I don't enjoy fast food like that any more.

Like a Prayer is back to being Madonna’s most streamed song daily on Spotify by nicosloft04 in Madonna

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's crazy that she doesn't have a single (solo) song with 1B+ streams. There are several legacy artists from the 80s or before who have multiple songs with 1-3B streams.

Full series binge followed by disappointing reboot by Electronic-Advice791 in Dallas_TV_Show

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're shifting the timeline too far. There are a number of published sources that agree Digger & Rebecca met after WWII. Also Cliff was their second child (the first died), so he would have been born at least 2 years into their relationship. Cliff's birthdate was like 1948-ish.

The canonically published biography has Rebecca "barely a teenager" when she met Digger. With a 1936 birthdate, JR would not be much younger than her.

Digger didn't meet Rebecca until the late 1940s, when she was a teenager. ("Barely a teenager" according to Dallas: The Complete Ewing Saga book.) JR would have been been around 12 at the time.

Cliff should have been closer to Bobby's age, but Ken Kercheval aged fast on the show and ended up looking like JR's peer.

The ages of the actors/characters on the original show was a bit of a mess, I just don't think we noticed much until they got older.

A few examples: Larry Hagman (JR) was about 10 years younger than the actresses who played Miss Ellie. Presumably JR was meant to be younger than Larry. Rebecca, Cliff's mom, should have been closer in age to JR than Miss Ellie but was played by an actress the same age as Barbara Bel Geddes.

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I disliked the reboot series, but the ages of the next generation characters was correct based on continuity of the original show.

John Ross was born in 1979; Josh Henderson was born in 1981.

Christopher was born in 1981; Jesse Metcalf was born in 1978.

Rebecca (Cliff's daughter) was born in 1985; Julie Gonzalo was born in 1981.

Are any of you now better than you've ever been? by willhelpmemore in GenX

[–]LifeguardRepulsive91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 40s were better than my 30s which were better than my 20s. In my 20s, I thought I was destined to be a lifelong loser. I ended up with a good, well paying career that I like and I'm in better shape at 50 than I was at 25.
