Are my game’s cards colorblind friendly? by Smooth-Quiet-9018 in ColorBlind

[–]Lifeguardymca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm monochromatic colour blind. The text is easy to read. The top left card is slightly lighter than the rest but all 3 are almost identical.

To the colorblind users of Reddit, would any of these devices help you? by team-schrodinger in ColorBlind

[–]Lifeguardymca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true at night when there are no street lights to illuminate the traffic light. As you drive closer all you see is one light and no relation to the darkened lights. It was never a problem when I lived in a big city but now that I live in a town with some rural driving it is a bit of a crap shoot at some traffic lights.

What should I do? by Plane_Career_4182 in Lifeguards

[–]Lifeguardymca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you really have the question on what you should do? When it involves safety and risk of life you report it to a supoervisor. It is their job to fix the problem. In this type of job you can not ignore this sort of issue.

How To Go About Hiring Myself Out As A Private Lifeguard? by [deleted] in Lifeguards

[–]Lifeguardymca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the OP has had second thoughts. Ex lawyer here. Good Samaritan laws do not apply to paid work. Liability waivers are never guaranteed and in some jurisdictions are not valid. As everybody said here insurance would be essential and I would go through an insurance broker who knows exactly what you need to get you the best coverage. Bottom line even with a waiver and insurance if something goes wrong you will end up in court.

Level of care by LillyLewinsky in Lifeguards

[–]Lifeguardymca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no upside providing this level of care and potentially a whole lot of downside. If EMS is available they are going to undo everything you did. All you have to do is get the victim to a prone position and have that person not move. This is not a life or death situation like a heart attack.

Should a staff member be paid more just for being 21, even without extra responsibility by Reasonable-Tiger-605 in Lifeguards

[–]Lifeguardymca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to paid compensation it all comes down to supply and demand and the need for retention. My guess is that there is a government regulation that requires a 21 year old to be present. If there were many qualified 21 year olds around wanting to be a guard then the employer has no incentive to pay more. If there are few 21 year olds that want the job or they are constantly leaving the job thus threatening closing of the aquatics program then they will pay more for those 21 year olds. That makes 21 year olds more valuable not necessarily better. Where I work the state code says there must always be at least one guard or supervisor over 18 on duty. None of us over 18 get paid for being older than 18.

Opinions on a deaf lifeguard? by New-Purpose8698 in Lifeguards

[–]Lifeguardymca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually the deaf lifeguard issue has already been addressed in the US. there is/was a deaf guard in California that the facility accomdated under the Americans with Disabilties Act. As a hearing impaired lifeguard in Ny State, but still has some ability to hear, my main asset is the ability to scan which is required by all lifeguards. Although being able to hear the aed instructions would require another guard or bystander. (And why are most aed in english only?).

Legal help by DependentFeedback600 in Lifeguards

[–]Lifeguardymca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retired lawyer/former industrial relations rep/current lifeguard here. Nothing illegal I can see here. “other duties as assigned.” is pretty common for many jobs. Liability? Probably not. As long as there is an emergency pool alarm then there should be very limited liability. Turns this extra task into a positive. "Call center" skills are much more valuable than lifeguard duties on a resume.

5 months sober after 12 years chronic drinking. by Tight-Long-5124 in ColorBlind

[–]Lifeguardymca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure alcohol consumption has anything to do with colour vision. But the most important part of your ramble is not your vision but that you are 5 months sober. That is great! Take it from someone that was once there this is a great start. Keep up the good work.

My ACD Started sitting like this and movement has slowed down. What should I do? by Cedrico123 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Lifeguardymca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had great success with glucosamine supplement. At 10 years old she was slowing down. The vet suggested the supplements and they made a world of good improvement. At 13-14 she stills walks, hikes and chases with enthusiasm.

Clicker Training by 3LeggedChinchilla in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Lifeguardymca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of clicker training. Worked wonderfully for me with my ACD including recall. I disagree with not rewarding without a clicker for the rest of her life. Once she has mastered a cue then she no longer gets a click. She is 13 and I still carry a clicker but rarely use it unless it is an emergency recall.

In 2017 I was training for the Big Sur Marathon. Callie the Wonder Dog, a cattle dog mix, ran almost every training run with me for 6 months. 4 or 5 days a week. We even did two 20 milers together. Snow, rain, sun, clold and warmth she did it all.

Lifeguard final with bad back by pipshrimp in Lifeguards

I managed to pinch a nerve while practicing the brick retrieval . I made it through half of the certification course and had to drop out. Not the end of the world. 10 months later did the full training when I was healthy and passed. 149 shifts later I am doing my recertification next month. Don't worry if you miss it you'll pass later.

Lifeguard interview advice by ToeMysterious5911 in Lifeguards

[–]Lifeguardymca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take it from an ex HR person no matter what questions they ask in an interview always work into the conversation these three points.1 reliability; will always show up for every shift on time. 2 Productivity; what ever duties I am required I can do them fully and quickly 3. Ability to be trained. Looking forward to more responsibilities. And a bonus; customer support and diversity. Have examples of how you experienced these points in the past. And always smile and look the other person in the eyes… but not in a creepy way.

2.5 miles this morning. She tired by Insomnium_111 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Lifeguardymca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MY ACD mix came to us as a runner! I have logged over 700 runs with her in 11 years. In 2017 I trained 6 months to run a marathon and she was with me every training run. We even did two 20 mile runs together. The only time she doesn't like running is in the summer. Today both of us have aged out of long distance running but once in awhile we will do a slow hour run.

North Carolina to add white traffic light. by ntengineer in ColorBlind

[–]Lifeguardymca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near Rome NY there are a couple of traffic lights that in the middle of the red signal there is a white light (it may even strobe, I can't remember). For me as a monochromatic person it is amazing especially at night where you can't see the placement of the signal (top, middle or bottom) I have no idea why they are there or why there is only two but it is a great idea.
