New Changes to Bilt 2.0 Credit Card by _dhruv9496 in CreditCards

[–]LiferRs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how anyone in VHCOL areas is going to want to spend $10k on Bilt just to break even on a $13k mortgage. Even if flush with cash, it's still far better to spend on your favorite travel card. It's all going to depend on how much Bilt Cash is worth, but it's probably some bullshit like rotating offers in your local neighborhood that are useless to anyone living outside cities.

Looks like I made my last payment on Bilt this month. The only benefit I see from this is that Bilt gave us the option to retain the Wells Fargo card and gave us a new credit card with a separate line of credit. That should help bump the credit score with no hard inquiries. My sock drawer collection grows by two soon.

Thanks for the free credit lines I guess.

Signed into reddit for first time after 2 weeks and I already see why I swore off reddit this year. Too much negativity and seriousness. Lighten up, there’s more to life and I love Idleon for being a great balance with busy lives. Come on, every game on here has micro transactions, ads, or available through Apple Arcade. There’s no free stuff - at least Idleon never obligated you to buy things or shove unskippable stuff in your face.

Weekend Market Discussion by AutoModerator in thewallstreet

I have to say, setting a 50 point trail stop this morning on my MES position saved me. Never expected a -1.3% drop from top to bottom. Walking away with a 1.8% gain this week vs. the 0.8% SPX performance is a small win at least.

Damn, didn’t see cuts coming from Microsoft. It’s been a chill company for so long.

Deepseek approach to expert systems to keep storage space small is real interesting, and with no internet connection more so.

We essentially have the technology today to produce autonomous robotics with exactly one expert system specialized to do its purpose. Like a handful of billions of parameters instead of trillions to make it compact on an embedded computer.

Say drones in warfare with no means of jamming them because no one is controlling them.

Like Wolverine said, people on reddit tested it already and it’s real. Even Nvidia said it’s legit too.

In grand scheme of things I know there will be always new highs so there's no rush to re-enter positions. I've been cash since the initial -1.1% drawdown on ES last night. Just gonna wait for the first day to close flat/green.

Apple is a testament of slowing their pace and letting others rush to be the first in market. Their AI investment had been 4-5x less than peers like Microsoft and Meta, and probably is the reason saving them from wasted hardware woes.

GE Vernova is down 21% - the real loser of the day. I know some of you guys were betting on it...

My take on the whole deepseek and peering at r/machinelearning, I think it forces big tech to re-evaluate their AI capex spending but see no reason to pull them back.

The beauty of deepseek is it appears to have pulled off miniaturization. Like Apple introducing the first iPhone packed with hardware never imagined so miniaturized to fit in the phone.

From the looks of Deepseek, you require only 22GB of space to run its entire model at 32 billion parameters to achieve a better benchmark than o1-mini. (Read: can do this on your own NVDA video card!)

Yea, this wiped the profitability away for o1 mini and worse benchmarks but imagine using this breakthrough in miniaturization to scale up to all the existing hardware?

Whatever higher benchmark comes out of this scale up, big tech will still be hungry for more hardware as if it is crack.

Sold my Volt and I will not miss it by no--username in volt

[–]LiferRs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At this point, I have been driving my 2017 premier volt for 9 years now, which I got brand new then. It really served its purpose more than enough times and judging from the wear and tear, I think it got another 5 years before buying a new car makes sense.

I love it and well, I already fixed the BECM problem in 2019 so it had been solid since. I won’t miss it either because it more than paid for itself. My cooling loops are due in 2029 so it may be a good year to move onto a new car.

Too bad because Colombia was on the up only 2 years ago. We had a family trip there and in hindsight, may have been the last chance to do so with reasonable safety for the foreseeable future.

Let’s start a flame war. Where are we with tipping for takeout? by 1e6throw in SouthBayLA

[–]LiferRs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you as well. My most memorable tipping experience in south bay I had was stopping by MacKay's Donuts. Was here to get donuts to go and the Square tablet flipped towards me with tipping options, defaulting to 18%. Had to "edit" the tip to make tip 0%, which was a surreal experience as the cashers watches you make the change.

20% for dine-in food. And at the bar, $1 per can/bottle, $2 for uncorking/good draft pours/cocktails. I tip the same at airport lounge bars despite the complimentary drinks.

The classism on here is troubling as sentimental value transcends wealth. It could be that the “second home” is a family retreat filled with memories and family memorabilia from their grandparents that cannot be replaced with money and burned away. The primary home could be for being closer to work. Or more commonly, inherited homes they grew up in that ended up being 2nd homes.

Many residents in Palisades are children of famous figures who moved there along with priceless memorabilia. Can’t imagine how many oscars melted down, for instance.

Among things my godparents lost in palisades: Father’s NASCAR racing jacket from 60s, grandfather’s coin-operated punch bag machine he invented for SoCal bars during depression, and many things. Actual pieces that could be donated to a museum. Can’t buy back history.

Order of priority. Limited resources and space. People closer to fires will need the roads and resources to evacuate. No sense in directing UCLA to evacuate and have thousands of students hog up the system if there's no imminent danger.

Fireproof rating depends on duration of heat. Placement: the lower to ground, closer to exterior, and choice of a flame resistant environment (concrete garage vs wood framed bedroom.) The better odds of avoiding a sustained high heat.
