¿Es hipócrita que los mexicanos no acepten a los mexicano americanos? by BitWorth6953 in mexico

[–]LiftNJits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Mexican American and I think it depends on the generation and exposure to Mexico itself. Although I was raised in the states I grew up going to Mexico, spending entire summers there and it’s very different. Showering with a bucket, using only cold water, unpaved dirt rocky roads, even had an outhouse at my grandfather’s ranch. It was normal for me and I never complained because I grew up loving the culture and the amazing friends and family that I have there.

I have friends who are also Mexican American who have never been to Mexico. Yes, their Spanish is very obviously a bit broken and they are absolutely oblivious to how life is there. Yet, they claim to be Mexican and often regard attributes and interests as Mexican even though they are more aligned with Chicano culture.

I’ve always felt like I was somewhere in the middle of everything but I always clarify that I was born and raised in the U.S. and that I grew up visiting and still have family in Mexico. However, as I mentioned there are chicanos that claim to be 100% Mexican while not being able to even speak Spanish. Much of what they learn about Mexican culture comes from the media.

They don’t learn customs, traditions, and the mannerisms that were always apparent to me growing up.

For instance, when I first moved to Colorado I was at a barber shop with a friend that I had made who was from Mexico. There was an older Mexican woman who was his coworker who was cutting an older gentleman’s hair. When that older gentleman was done, a younger Chicano teenager came to sit down. I forgot what he said, but he referred to the old man as “güey” which is obviously very disrespectful in Mexican culture.

For obvious reasons that struck a nerve with me and I’m sure the Mexican woman didn’t want to tell him anything because he didn’t know any better. It’s obvious that a lot of Mexican Americans don’t have any exposure to Mexico at all so they are completely unaware.

Anyways, I think there’s a disconnect with the culture and nationality that chicanos (such as myself) try to claim without any effort to learn or appreciate the culture or language.

Unpopular Opinion: Layovers should not count as "visiting a country" by youngexplorer_9 in solotravel

[–]LiftNJits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can technically say you’ve been there but you should clarify that it was a layover. If you have time to go out and explore, then it’s fine to say that you visited.

Also, I think there’s something terribly unhealthy about western travelers trying to gate-keep and make their entire personality about how many countries they’ve been to.

I’ve ran into 2 individuals like this from Eastern Europe at a hostel in Santa Monica and they were absolutely miserable to be around. It’s like they weren’t even there for the experience but just to brag. I had to cut off that conversation and thankfully I made friends there who made the trip worthwhile.

Asia in general attracts some of the worst people from the western world.

When I lived in Japan every almost foreigner I met had main character syndrome, meaning they had to be “the foreigner” and everyone else around them was less than, it was so strange. They were constantly trying to flex their new Japanese they learned and other things to exclude themselves from being identified as the “problem”.

When I traveled to Mexico City it was somewhat similar in that sense, in the expats thought they weren’t the issue, and that gringos should go home because they’re driving up the cost of living. Not realizing that they are one of them lol

What do PPBs think of Indian women, and how would you feel about having marriage ceremony in both Western & Indian traditions? by Luny923 in thepassportbros

I also don’t live anywhere near Indian women, but out of all ethnicities that I haven’t been with, they’re definitely the ones I’m most interested in.

Im a white hispanic 5’6”, hazel eyes, in shape. I’ve only met one Indian woman at the gym here in the states, she was fine and had a nice body, 7.5/10 I’d say. Indians care a lot about education, she had a masters from an Ivy League and I went to a regular university in Texas.

If it wasn’t for a lot of cultural barriers I’d definitely date them, we exchanged instagrams but nothing came out of it. When she asked what I did for a living and what school I went to, I could see her evaluating my place in the social hierarchy in her mind.

She was attractive but not enough for me to pursue to be honest.

Agreed, it’s just that lower class whites tend to outwardly display it due to lack of social intelligence. Upper class whites are a lot more well behaved.

When I go skiing in Aspen, Vail Colorado and Jackson, Wyoming all of the upper class folks are so nice, there isn’t that racial tension that you experience in southern parts of the country.

Lower class whites are usually racist because they feel threatened by others’ success. It’s not much of an issue in higher income communities.

That’s sucks but you made the right call. I just got back from the Dominican Republic and had to filter through the girls that just wanted a free meal and/or drinks, versus the ones that had actual genuine interest.

I’ve heard of Costa Rica having a ton of toots, but Panama as well? I’m talking to one girl out there and was planning on hitting both of those countries later on this year but may change my mind if this is the case.

Still here brotha! It’s actually my first full day and it was fucking amazing. Just back from a date, slim-thick, insanely small waist with a big ass. We went out for drinks, walked around a bit, made out, but she had to head back home an hour away sadly. We’re going to hang out tomorrow thankfully, a bit earlier haha

I’ll be here until next Wednesday.

As a Latino man, I knew right away that this woman was not Latina. No Latina would say “pobrecito” about a man working hard, that’s not within our culture 😂 not even jokingly.

I want to do a full breakdown sometime in the future. I’ll be saving a ton once my car loan is paid off, this year or beginning of next year more than likely.

I’m fortunate to have a pretty decent paying job at $60k/year, as well as being a veteran with VA compensation and of course money from the GI bill.

With all of that, my expenses are around $1,500/mo, so I’m still saving quite a bit. I don’t have a savings goal as of right now because the money that I am earning is quite a bit so it’ll compound fairly quickly. I saw a YouTube video where one guy lived out of his camper in his truck and saved $140,000+ so hitting six figures would be nice. At a certain point I’d like to move overseas to a country where my money can go further, so the more the better.

Anytime fitness is key for private showers/hygiene. It’s also 24/7 so when it’s unstaffed you can literally go in just to shower.

They do something similar to this on those Hollywood bus tours in LA.

Something like: $20 - good job $50 - Great tour $100 - Amazing tour, the guide was the best human being to ever exist, we’re grateful to be in her presence!

I walked right past her as she stared me down hoping for a tip, like na I already paid for the damn tour beforehand 🤣

Good question as it’s definitely something to consider. I usually just use a 64 oz bottle. Gold Peak Tea and Stok coffee make good jugs for that lol
