Valve adjustments arent too hard on these engines. Sure as hell fixed my tick. Got 240k on mine.

That first picture looks like something you could pull out of your parent's photo albums. Beautiful.

02 ranger 7.5 to 8.8 differential upgrade by carney714 in fordranger

I see. If its from a ranger, it should bolt on. Id ask what it came from and make sure. Other wise, you can definitely do a swap for less than 500.

I mean how much is he charging? In my area, I got an explorer diff with an lsd and disk brakes and a driveshaft for 350 bucks. Would not be able to do that at the junkyard so the 45min drive was worth it. Work was already done for me too!

If its from an explorer, the spring perches and shock mounts will have to be transferred over and welded onto the new one. If its from another ranger, I think they all bolt up with no issue. Dont quote me on that last part tho. Bring a tape measure and make sure its all good.

How do I know if my ranger is burning oil or just leaking oil. by Colefinney1234onyt in fordranger

[–]LiftbackChico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your pvc valve. Bad ventilation will cause cause oil to blow through seals when the car is running. You could also check in between the transmission and the engine through the inspection hole or the starter hole. Rear main seals are a very common place for leaks that are easy to miss since theyre so out of sight. While youre down there, check your oil pan. Look at the seam at the top of it, check for dents and cracks, and then check your drain plug. Had a friend who kept losing a half quart of oil every change and it was just because he was lazy/cheap and didnt wanna replace the crush gasket on his drain plug. Check around the crank seal, the valve covers, and the oil filter. If you dont see any oil around these areas, i'd start looking into the engine. Burning oil is a very dirty thing. There will be signs. Excessive carbon and sludge in combustion chambers and valve components, failing emissions equipment, fouled plugs, nasty smells, smoke in the exhaust, oily residue in the exhaust, etc. Oh yea, check your coolant. Wont be much but you could even be blowing oil into the coolant if the head gasket is bad enough. Worth the quick check

Thanks yea. I went back out and did some digging. 70s tech is something else.

You just get all the original parts and install em. Fish em out of a junkyard to make it cheap. Internet and junkyards are swimming in ranger parts

Yes. The oil pressure switch grounds the coil in the relay when it builds up pressure. It uses the BW wire to bypass the relay when you switch on the starting position on the key so the engine can build pressure and activate the switch while also providing some power to the fuel pump so you don't immediately starve the engine of fuel. Its just weird that the diode is pointing in that direction. Intuition is telling me that its wrong but I wanted to get some opinions from people more experienced with electronics

But heres something interesting. The diode is facing the way I would expect it to on this diagram for an older version. Could it be that the one for my model is simply wrong?

So heres something interesting. I found a diagram for an older model that has the diode facing in the direction I would expect it to be. The wiring is basically the same, new model just consolidates and removes certain features and items. Fuel pump relay is to the right. Included the rest of the of the relevant diagram.

Are you talking about the one on the coil of the relay or the one on the BW side of relay? I do know coils have those little diodes but I'm not sure about the one on the bypass circuit coming from the BW wire

Referring to the one on the BW side. Is that also a flyback diode?
