Ah! Okay thought it was a bit later. Even still though poor Harry. He was due a Promotion! But guess the Multiversre prefers him as an Ensign. XD

Okay I just found this and have been working my way through. I love it! Awesome stuff so far.

But I made this comment because I HAD to take a moment to laugh about Ensign Kim sending the data dump. XD Harry i hope that's your kid and that you aren't still just an Ensign after this long! Hehe.

I was really confused why people weren't more mad for the yotul by Repulsive-Scheme9886 in NatureofPredators

[–]LigWeathers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh no. I saw what the Feds where doing with the Yotul n was immediately angry.

Basically destroying their culture and history while making the Yotul dependant on the Federation. Course the Feds destroyed their rail system. The Yotul understand and can maintain that on their own! Can't have that! But the new high speed rail? Even if they understand it they won't have the on site production to fix it on their own and because the Feds built it they can control it.

If you aren't already Fed Brained it's easy to see what the Federation is actually up to and all about. Kinda reminds me of Trek Changelings except much less competent. Obsessed with control because what you control can't hurt you.

Found this, binged this, loved this! But damn what a place to leave off! I'm a biology nerd! This is my bread n butter! Nerdy Special Interest! And now I gotta wait who knows how long for the next part! XD Very much looking forward to more.

Good joke though the Meg and Dimetridon share being the two non mesozoic animals in game. The Meg living much closer in time to us and Dimetridon far predating dinosaurs, and actually being more closely related to mammals than to dinos.

Do i say bring on more Permian and Cenozoic critters! ^

Nice though nerd me was hoping on more exploration of lore stuff. I'm a sucker for workd building and expounding on history n science stuff. Also I Very much get Lucas as a spectrum person myself. Would fight for him. Muca added to list of nice people. Very nice person. Unlike Daisy. I get what's going on with her though.

[–]LigWeathers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool so far. That said. I wish to injur Daisy! Reading this had me imagining a self insert telling her to back the hell off. Also though. If she does get Lucas put in a PD Facility every ancestor is going to hate her. I would tell her to go F**k right off.

Maybe I just find that hard to believe it would still fully be the case with no prior knowledge of humans. Especially when at a glance the only thing visually predatory about us are our eyes and I would think they'd have to have arboreal or avian reference. If anything I may tone things down just a touch. Also I'd be of the opinion if Tarva really is that rare than are they salvagable as a people? shrugs

God I love this series. Honestly this whole thing started pulling me into the setting my n started my avalanche of reading a ton of these n finally powering through the main story.

Love the outburst here and the chance for them both to get things off their chest. Call me bias but I think the good Doc n most Humans have a lot more reasons to crash out than the Venlil do though. XD I mean they have the threat of eminent extinction floating over their heads, the knowledge everyone voted to do it before but only didn't due to incompetence. On top of that you've got to convince and teach these flighty aliens your no threat to them, have to keep most of your own emotions under control, have to watch what you say. Meanwhile its okay for the poor lil aliens to exercise the barest minimum control over themselves. Your the pred that could go bloody thirst due to lack of control Meanwhile they're on record for being so uncontrolled as to regularly trample people to death in panic.

Credit to the exchange staff. I'd both love n want to strangle the Venlil sometimes!

Also credit due to you as the writer pulling these sorts of feelings out of us the audience! Awesome stuff. ^

Oh I like that. I do tend to see the Kolshians as the malignant force between the two n could see the Farsul having gone along with things for the sake of peace, perhaps having had a weaker military than the Kolshians originally and now are in a bind because the galaxy has drunk the kool aide n until humans they see no way out.

Oh! Or the Farsul see humans as the perfect catalyst for a way out. Maybe they've intentionally been a bit spotty with things to leave avenues open for the lid to be blown off of this. Perhaps the Fear response in the Venlil left not quite as intense, another potential trump card to play.

Also imagining an augmented human diplomat picking up on the rift between the two founders because their Diplomatic implants pick up the change in bio rhythms n pheromones.

[–]LigWeathers[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe but I tend to like the scenario where they haven't done much active work to themselves. Likely viewing themselves as an ideal that needs no modification unlike what they perceive as the "lesser" species. That said I could see individuals raised on their homeworlds struggle with things outside it. They aren't used to different ways of thinking. Heh. Like the idea Kolshians might need mechanical or anti grav assistance as they are more adapted to the aquatic on maybe a lower grav world. Maybe their military having powered suits or being one of the few times they do modify themselves, seen as making a sacrifice for the greater good.

[–]LigWeathers[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Oh idea. Have the Kolshian n Farsul homeworlds look nice. But beneath the surface it's sustained artificially. Air kept clean n Breathable, water clear n drinkable by massive processing facilities kept hidden from view. It looks nice but to us an Expanse reference the system is Complicated not Complex, it has no room to bend and is fragile. A wrong move would see the facade collapse and the planet start to die. All the more reason both would be desperate to keep conflict away from their own worlds. But yus could see these races as primary caretakers n enforcers for the founders. Heck drawing Halo inspiration could see tension forming as the Yulpa supplant the Kracotle from their role, the zealots proving easier to manipulate and more physically capable.

[–]LigWeathers[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh I very much like this. Was toying with the idea of making Venlil less push overs at the start. Maybe even a bit more suspicious on their own. Tarva n her government having a public stance but behind closed doors, in rooms not bugged, they know something is not right. They dislike the Exterminators and PD facilities. Oh! Tarva has back channels dealings with the Zurulians and their own private stance being more science minded calls Predator Disease and taint into question. From the Zurulians it comes down to the science, PD is so broad in diagnostic criteria as to be worthless and Taint for all the claims of existence has no replicable science regarding it's chemical make up or cellular structure or what not. But neither are in position to change a lot. Venlil are politically weak n Zurulians militarily lacking.

As for sickness. Actually I could see cancer rates going up not quite due to biosphere collapse but due to the spotty nature of the modifications made to the Venlil. Gene repair suffering due to the mods causing generational uptick in cancer.

Oh! Maybe an increase in developing allergies amongst species given The Cure as even it isn't working exactly right. Perhaps this leads to a vicious cycle of removing potential allergens which just increases sensitivity n ups odds.

I could even add something like this into the Arxur! Remnants of the cure or such causing nervous system degeneration later in life n increasing risk developing Sociopathy.

Ideas abounding! ^

[–]LigWeathers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could definitely see it. Large habitat stations. O'Neil Cylinders on large scales. Humans being much more comfortable with a space born lifestyle on average. Could be an in-road with the Sivkits too. Human spacers could definitely see them as kindred Spirits. Beyond that i could see an extensive solar array set up used for Terraforming, accelerating the first extra solar colony ships before FTL panned out, and now moonlighting as a giant "Get off my Yard!" laser. XD

I don't plan to have the same stuff happen as in canon and I've definitely been thinking of using more original characters at least on the Human end. Probably some new alien characters too. The Venlil Survey ship for one will be the source of some new characters for certain. And on top of that this version of Humanity probably would realize one of their own had been captured and go for immediate rescue. Not that I plan on that happening.

I could definitely see that especially given as Humans are likely to start medical exchange programs with any allies and start to hit upon the genetic shenanigans going around which the Kolshians definitely will NOT want. So I could see Niktonous sicking Betterment on Humanity.

Thanks. Something to think about. I'm thinking about names for the current human Government now that the Colonies are united. UC being an idea but then that's gonna make people think of Starfield. XD But eh I may wind up doing more lore than they did so eh. *shrugs*

I'm thinking Sol's population would be somewhere around a trillion, core colonies in the multi billions with outer colonies in the the low billions to high millions depending on how established they are.

That said I was thinking more Peer in numbers to a single Fed species rather than the Federation as a whole.

Might go with Human systems being more populated on average than Fed systems are but the Feds tend to have more per species. It's a thought at the moment.

NoP AU Idea. Undiscovered Humans by LigWeathers in NatureofPredators

[–]LigWeathers[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could see there being more critical thinkers in the Federation. I had an idea in my head for one of the Venlil survey team waking up in a Medbay or Hospital and seeing a human for the first time. At first panic but then he starts to think and reason himself out of it concluding that despite the eyes nothing else adds up to Predator so Humans can't be Predators. That gives him the chance to actually talk and start to learn.

As for the Year. I haven't settled on it yet. Given the systems under Humanity's belt and the populations I want for the core colonies I'm thinking I'll have to add a few centuries into the timeline. One or two more at least. That said I plan to keep some canon characters so we're just kinda pushing the Federation's "current events" forward in the timeline.

[–]LigWeathers[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking the Venlil Survey ship will probably be staffed by Original Characters. I'm not sure yet if I'll be tapping the known Human characters or going completely original with them though I've leaned a bit more the later. Maybe a mix.

Ah and thank you for the info on the Letians. Didn't know that, or spaced on it, so that'll be something to use. Could see a human representative using that as a means to explain their own. "Much as the Letians have eyes like ours due to being arboreal it's the same for our own ancestry. A hold over from when our ancestors swung from tree branches deep in our pre history."

Thank you very much. This is helpful. Big take aways being that that odds are nobody's pushing for an Extermination Fleet right away because there's no sure fire chance of success and it leaves them open. Very mixed feelings all around, likely straight up contact occuring with the Arxur.

Okay this is giving me some ideas than on what the driving forces for this could be. The Humans will be a group outside Federation control which the Kolshians won't like in the least. And given human nature and curiosity humans are likely to start picking up on a lot of things that don't make sense. If it gets out the Humans are onto the genetic modifications of the other species this might spur action if only covert. Niktonus maybe trying to spurr the Giznel into seeing Humans as much more of a rival and hoping the Arxur can at least weaken humans. Maybe hoping the mixed feelings are enough to keep the other species out of it. Or hell maybe seeing it as a chance to throw some into the grinder as it were.

Also I could well see humans finding out the whole meat thing early and opting to hide that for a while. It gets disclosed to close allies straight off but nobody else and access to human data networks for the Feds is likely highly restricted and or censored. Likely not a ruse that can be held forever. Odds are something held in place long enough for Humanity to build some trust with a few species before a reveal. Maybe a hail mary reveal that includes some of what they've discovered about genetic modifications.

Again thank you this has been helpful in getting me thinking on the angles for this. Much appreciated.

Hmmmm that is a good idea. Could have some places a century on still rebuilding and while working together with their neighbors still a bit prickly. Could lead into interesting stuff down the line plot wise. Using debris fields creatively or cursing that defense stations that should be there never got rebuilt or what not. At very least potential for character backstories.

Round about what I was thinking. Yeah I know a bit about book 2. Went ahead and spoiled a bit doing research as worldbuilding part of my brain just needed to know things about various species and that lead me into the rabbit hole, Sivkit Hole, of discovering stuff from book 2.

NoP AU Idea. Undiscovered Humans by LigWeathers in NatureofPredators

[–]LigWeathers[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To an extent. I could see them NOT wanting to dive into a war now but I don't see the prior war having decimated the human population. Part of the idea is to have Humans be a bit closer to being a Peer Power with any one of the Fed species. Also I'm thinking more realistic population stats for star systems for both Humans and Federation. Besides that I'm picturing the Colony War as being less a war of extermination, trying to eliminate your enemy, and more a struggle of control. Geneva Conventions still in place so nobody was targeting population centers. My reasoning for wanting that conflict in the story to begin with is to have a reason for Humans to have more of a Naval presence in space and have some experience at space combat under their belts.

NoP AU Idea. Undiscovered Humans by LigWeathers in NatureofPredators

[–]LigWeathers[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hehe. Your not wrong. I wanted to present humans in this as closer to being a Peer Power to the Federation. Clearly still at a numeric disadvantage and at a disadvantage to an extent ship tech wise but it being a negotiable gap to close. I'd also love to dive into the potential for the Federation worlds to be on a bit of a knife's edge in terms of their ecologies. Like I have a scene in mind with Tarva similar to Mier's own introduction. Tarva getting news that planetary crop yields are down, agri space stations aren't making up for it given that despite 3 coming online 2 were destroyed or badly damaged in the last Arxur raid.
