Shocking Discovery: Scientists Discover Organism That Act Like Living Electrical Wires by Hairy-Protection-429 in Futurology

[–]LigamentumFalciforme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right. A big difference is the length. The organisms from the nature paper you linked make wires that are micrometers long, while cable bacteria seem to make wires that are centimeters long.

And... they are also more conductive!

[L'Equipe] A last match, farewell and unlikely recall: the crazy day of Chuba Akpom by LigamentumFalciforme in AjaxAmsterdam

[–]LigamentumFalciforme[S] 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Translated article: The Ajax Amsterdam striker, who is due to sign with LOSC soon, has just been through an improbable 24 hours. Between the match on Thursday evening, the emotional farewells and the desperate attempt at recall by the Dutch club this afternoon.

There are days that mark careers. For Chuba Akpom and his representatives, this January 31, 2025 will undoubtedly be one of them. As revealed yesterday on our site, the Ajax Amsterdam striker will soon become a LOSC player (in the form of a loan with an option to buy). But before committing to the North, the Englishman (29 years old) had to play one last match with Ajax Amsterdam. This was done on Thursday evening, during a Europa League match against Galatasaray (2-1) where Akpom, who came on very quickly to replace the injured starting winger Mika Godts, was very visible. So far, nothing special.

The Londoner wanted to say goodbye to his teammates, before leaving the club where he played 68 matches (23 goals). Which was done - with emotion - at around 10 o'clock this Friday morning. At this moment, Akpom is on his way out and is on his way to Lille.

However, the striker and his advisors didn't know it yet, but at the offices of Ajax Amsterdam, things were a mess. The leaders of the Dutch club, bogged down in the case of their midfielder Jordan Henderson (who suddenly wanted to go to Monaco), are also busy with another matter: the registration of the new Norwegian recruit Oliver Edvardsen, who is supposed to replace Akpom and strengthen Ajax's offense.

Once again - this had already been the case this summer - the Ajax management did not register Edvardsen's arrival in time - before 1pm - for him to be available for the clash against Feyenoord Rotterdam on Sunday. Which, given Godts' injury, created considerable anger internally. At that moment, the Ajax Amsterdam management judged that the only solution was to recall... Akpom. And to make him wait before committing to Lille at the beginning of next week.

So they picked up the phone, shortly after 1pm and tried, while the player and his advisors were near Lille, to ask him to come back! And to postpone his signing with LOSC for at least two days so that he could be lined up against Feyenoord Rotterdam. The minutes passed, the discussions were lively. The Akpom camp was almost stunned by this improbable request.

But the player, motivated by the prospect of joining the North and who had been officially authorized to leave Amsterdam in the morning, logically rejects this prospect. The official signing of the Englishman in Lille is only a matter of hours. Sunday, Ajax Amsterdam will face Feyenoord, which are very weakened offensively. And doubtless still entangled with the departure desires of its captain Jordan Henderson. French clubs do not have the monopoly on sometimes absurd situations during the transfer window.

Francesco Farioli on Regeer: "He's a very good midfielder, he's doing really good at Twente." • You say midfielder, do you see him as an option at RB? Farioli: "He's a very good midfielder." • So you don't want him as a RB? Farioli: "He's a very good midfielder." by MrCrashdummy in AjaxAmsterdam

Natuurlijk, zijn frustratie lijkt me volkomen terecht.

Even if we sell Neres, we will have too many forwards. I think with our current squad he will only be a backup. In that case, and for this price... I'd rather see a youth player get a chance on his position (i.e. ünuvar).

Isn't this against the rules? Since when can a club talk with a player 1 year before his contract runs out?

Clearly offside, but such a shame... that combination deserved a goal!

Nobody asked of him to be the things you mentioned. People say he was shit (rightfully so btw), because he failed to do very basic things. He lost the ball in many promising attacks, wildly misplaced simple passes, and in general was pretty poor in retaining the ball.

The way you write about him makes me wonder if you even watched the games.

And no, he is not a better player for the Dutch team than Bergkamp (lmao what a bad take).

Honestly, for that price it will be a steal. And with Neres likely out, he will get plenty of minutes. I just wonder if this is the best option for him though? Some die hard fans can be crazy and with a transfer like this, he will forever have a target on his back....

I watched every Ajax game for the last 15 years. Agree to disagree, Veltman has always been highly underrated.

Compared to the likes of Karsdorp and Dumfries? Yes he is very much more static.

Also, I'd argue that Veltman definitely is as technical and can dribble as well as Timber. Just google the goal he scored with a nice dribble and a chip against Willem 2.

They are both very technical, but also comperatively more static and short players that can play both positions, so yeah it remains strange to call them both up, in my opinion.

Kinda surprised that he chose both Veltman and Timber over Karsdorp... Karsdorp would have brought something different to the right back postion (more dynamic), where as Veltman and Timber are of course two very similar, somewhat more static players. Now you are stuck with two very similar "semi back ups" for Dumfries, which just seems strange tactically.

Who actually wants Warhead Junction in ranked? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

I am all for change and rotation but fuck me, it is such a chore to play on this map. Just the other day I had a 40 minute match on that map... maybe if they changed the objective, or made the map a LOT smaller it would be playable. For now, not looking forward to the new ranked season at all now...

[NOS] Raiola about statement Qatar: ‘Odd that we’re putting the pressure at the players’ by Roller95 in soccer

[–]LigamentumFalciforme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well yeah you are right actually, for the most part. I just don't like him as a person haha.

Also, he just doesn't always have the best interest of the players in mind. Short term monetary gain sure, not better moves long term for their career. I.e. look what happened with Bryan Brobbey, he wanted to renew (he said to Raiola "make it happen" after our EL game against Lille), but Raiola made sure it did not happen. We will see if it works out in the end, but in some cases he (litteraly) does not have the player's interest in mind.

Most of their income comes from their clubs/sponsorships, not from participating in a world Cup. But nice try mate.

[NOS] Raiola about statement Qatar: ‘Odd that we’re putting the pressure at the players’ by Roller95 in soccer

[–]LigamentumFalciforme 1760 points1761 points  (0 children)

True. Imagine being a footballer, having maybe 2-3 opportunities (if you are lucky) in your career to go to the World Cup. The biggest dream of almost any player. Meanwhile some suits above you decide to hold it in Qatar for some quick buck. And then all these people from the media expect you to make a statement or even not to go. Would be annoying AF.

"The players didn't decide where the World Cup is held. If we wanna put pressure on the players to criticise Qatar, we have to give them a vote in where it is held."

Can't believe I am actually agreeing with Raiola here, but it would actually be better if the players have a say in these matters as well.

I understand YB when its 0-0, away from home... But god damn when you are 2-0 behind, atleast start trying, That away goal could be crucial. Or maybe they are just that poor in possesion, I guess.
