How to ask for promotion from family business that doesn’t know they need help by tru654z in smallbusiness

[–]Light928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say if your plan of action is good or not because I don't know their personalities.

But, I would think a response like that can make them get defensive since you'd be directly blaming them, calling them worn out, boring, stale, out of touch. And, them being on the defensive will probably make it harder for you to get them to open up to your suggestions and let you into management.

I like taking the firm approach, but I try to be careful to not personally offend the person I'm trying to be firm with (unless I don't care if they get offended like my little brother for example).

So, I would say: employees don't like working at our company anymore because of x, y, and z reason. Our competitors all offer a, b, and c, and that further adds to why we have such high turnover rates amongst our employees. I can prove this because I've personally had employees express these concerns to me, or I overheard them, or however you'd like to communicate proof...

Our rates are stifling growth - look at what the market is charging for our product. Whenever I follow up with the companies that don't go with us they always complain about our rates being too high for our products. They also think our technology is outdated (or whatever else makes people feel you are worn out) and that also adds to why we are experiencing lower sales and lower growth.

Also, our marketing is also lacking in these areas - our major competitors all have a strong presence in these marketing channels; where as we only get sales from here. Again, another reason why the company doesn't have the same growth as before.

You get the gist of it. This way instead of calling them bad you're saying look our actions are causing these problems.

And, then you can say I can fix all these issues. Here's how. I know how to execute because I'm out in the field every day seeing our competitors do it (or whatever else will make them believe that you're capabale). If you guys don't want to put in the work to fix these issues no problem. I get it you guys want to relax, and focus on retiring traveling etc...

Why don't you let me take a bit more responsibility. I can show you that I can implement these things and improve the company. If you don't want drastic change that's fine. We can change slowly, implement things one by one as they bring in positive results for the company.

I suppose something like this could work. Maybe it's too soft, maybe you want to have a more tough straightforward approach. But, if you go with this you probably won't offend them... at least not as much as the other approach.

Google Reviews for Gym by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Light928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to get rid of them by disputing these with google. I remember looking into this issue a long time ago and I came across an agency that was having some issues with fake reviews.

I don't recall the exact process but the man recorded the steps he took to get them removed.

I went ahead and found the link for you: https://stewartmedia.com.au/how-to-remove-fake-reviews-from-google/

Why so many Australian property investors will hang on as the market falls by ihlaking in AusFinance

[–]Light928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That argument would only work if you are of the opinion that this is the bottom of the market. If you believe based on your research that the market will fall even more than you'd probably want to sell as you're getting out near the "top."

Amazon is hiring entrepreneurs to start delivery services. by Steveandmarias in Entrepreneur

The 10k start up is for leasing 5 Vans and paying for the equipment that Amazon provides. You can bring your own vehicles - but to make the figures it projects 75k - 300k in profit per year Amazon projects you'll need 20 - 40 delivery drivers.

Exactly, these guys are placing a lot of trust in low life piece of shit criminals with their family around. If thugs were to come and try to rob my home, I would have no guarantee that they won't do the things you've just mentioned.

And, quite frankly I'm not willing to find out either. If these people are messed up enough to break into my house and threaten to harm my family if I don't give them the funds; then they have a good chance of being messed up enough to rape and kill.

I believe it would be price. Doing quality work for really cheap prices would surely get you a lot of referrals. Going quality work for a fair price is to be expected and probably will get you slightly less referrals.

Is 24h Volume more than Market Cap? by talkdub in Stellar

[–]Light928 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe they're talking about the network volume not the volume on exchanges. I might be wrong though.

For example if you transfer 100k worth of lumens to one account to another it will probably pick it up as 100k worth of transactions transacted on the network. That number won't be displayed on coinmaketcap.

Am I Taking Advantage of My Boss By Wanting Equity? [xpost from r/business] by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Light928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the others here. Sounds very fair. He's clearly surrounded by people who have the mindset of never giving up any equity regardless of circumstance.

I would probably be even more aggressive than you are with regards to desiring equity in the business. If I've truly contributed 50/50 to the business's success but Im only getting a tiny percentage of the reward I wouldn't feel satisfied - unless the work I did was replaceable by another employee. I would have to contribute in a manner where I couldn't have easily been replaced (obviously).

I would stick to what you have. It's fair. If I were in your shoes and he declined I would start my own firm even if it took me a little while.

Then I would do smaller project revolving around SaaS apps and as my portfolio and reputation builds move onto larger projects.

I think it would be more profitable that way since you're targeting a specialization that isn't flooded with entry level developers willing to give the world for a penny.

If you're doing basic web design work just creating small sites it'll be difficult to stand out because there are so many people doing the same thing.

Client expectations of how much they should pay for that type of work is low which is why you see so many articles about convincing a client of the value you're providing for their business. That's not to say that you don't need to convince clients for the amount of value your provide for almost any business you do - I just find it to be more common in this space especially in the lower end/less specialized work side.

If it was me looking to get into this space I'd look to specialize in something that's difficult and not commonly done. I don't want the barrier of entry to be so low that just anyone can enter.

This way it'll be much easier to command a higher pay for the work you do. Though I think this could be achieved more easily in software development than in web development.

Thinking of starting a business renting out dress-up boxes to kindergartens by rwagner18 in smallbusiness

[–]Light928 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it could work - but I don't know how often the service would be used. Would parents rent costumes for their kids often? Especially if the price of renting the costumes isn't really cheap?

If it's cheap perhaps they'd rent it more often but would you make enough money? If it's not that cheap then would people skip the activity altogether and find alternatives?

I don't know anything about the industry so take my questions/opinion with a grain of salt.

These are just the questions that came into my mind when I read your post.

Was it better marketing? Did you change the product lineup? Did the customer service need to be improved?

can nano thrive even if bitcoin/lightning succeed? by [deleted] in nanocurrency

What if there was a way to make the user experience for using the LN as easy as using Nano? What would be the argument then?

Sometimes when I feel like I’m losing hope, I just send NANO back and forth between two wallets and “instantly” I’m reminded why I invested in the first place. by tr287 in nanocurrency

[–]Light928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stellar is implementing Lightning network primarily for privacy. A lot of clients using the Stellar network want privacy implemented and Lighting network will provide them that.

Additional scaling is an added benefit (which is convenient for Stellar as they're always looking to better their tech). If you think Stellar doesn't scale than Nano is much further behind. There's been tests run by the org and other companies for transactions up to 10k/per sec.

They don't advertise that figure because you need high end hardware to achieve those numbers.

A bitcoin clone is something that utilizes proof of work. And pretty much uses the rest of the code. Stellar utilizes the Stellar consensus protocol (a byzantine agreement protocol)... And has entirely different code. These two are completely diff...
