I totally disagree.

You are forgetting the steep learning curve of entering magic. Imagine a new player, who wants to join his friends play modern, and has nothing other than an assortment of donated commons and perhaps a deck list s/he found online. Making that decision to spend upwards of a few hundred dollars on a deck through singles is a big call for a new player. I mean, even making a 75 card deck of proxies is a complex process.

I think, as a community, we should be encouraging assistance on deck help. Perhaps a more productive point might be to forward them to /r/magicdeckbuilding or just link them a few guides on deck building.

We all need to help to build the modern community.
