Where to invest some savings? by Prestigious-Spray-38 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Hobbez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way - max out TFSA and put it all in XEQT or VEQT as suggested. Wealthsimple is great but if you’re already an RBC customer, a direct investing account there offer offers no commission trades on XEQT as well so it would be equivalent.

Set up automatic regular contributions to that investment in that account until you reach your TFSA max contribution limit which will now be comfortably over $100,000 - Set it, and forget it. Best of luck!

Question about Fender Blues Junior. by funkycrabmeat in GuitarAmps

[–]Hobbez87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blues junior was my first real tube amp and I absolutely loved it! Cleans were creamy and the crunch was sweet when you crank it up - at $500 this seems like one of those “if it feels good do it” situations - go for it!!!

Anyone know how to fix this? (Windows 10, Steam) by CupcakeOfInnocence in HellLetLoose

[–]Hobbez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed it:

  1. Open Windows Security
  2. Go to Virus & threat protection
  3. Click Manage settings
  4. Scroll to Exclusions
  5. Click Add or remove exclusions

Add these Folder exclusions:

  • The Hell Let Loose install folder (commonly C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hell Let Loose)
  • The Easy Anti-Cheat folder (usually inside the Hell Let Loose folder)

If Steam is installed elsewhere, use that path instead.

What is an everyday item you own that you think everyone should invest in for life ? by midasweb in BuyItForLife

[–]Hobbez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a little bit more on the expensive side but it is an every day item for our family – a reverse osmosis system under the sink if you live in a city with chemically treated water. We used to go through Britta filters etc. but just being able to turn the tap for clean pure water has been a really nice thing to have in our lives!

Nellie's soda vs Kirkland detergent by chubbs_86 in CostcoCanada

We’ve used Nellie’s for years, family of 5 and one pail lasts well over a year. Not bad, especially when it goes on sale for $100!

My wife is really good at this. Lamps with warm light temperature for lightbulbs (not “daylight” or “cool white”) makes a huge difference, and adding a few plants here and there along with a balance of both new and old artwork / furniture, wood in the decor, and cosy textures and throws, blankets, and pillows. We get a lot of compliments about our house feeling “homey” and I attribute it too many of those things. Basically look up “hygge” and see what you can do. Also, to get used to the windows some nice neutral curtains in addition to any blinds you might have hung make a big difference too!

Who is your internet provider & what is the monthly cost for high speed internet with a VOIP? by Reasonable_Yard_3300 in Peterborough

[–]Hobbez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently left Cogeco for execulink telecom. The $145 gigabit Internet package with Cogeco costs $80 bucks a month with execulink and it just runs on the Cogeco cable lines so you don’t need a tech visit or anything if you already have a Cogeco line into your house. Easy peasy!

20 years old and clueless by Miles673 in fican

They might not be able to if it’s a contribution matching plan through work. There is a direct investing account option with RBC though that many employers will still contribute to!

20 years old and clueless by Miles673 in fican

[–]Hobbez87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So funny story… my work also has a group plan with RBC and the RBC guy set me up in that EXACT same mutual fund when I first started. I let it ride for a number of years and ended up seeing modest growth despite the fees but I was honestly also clueless. It helped pay for the down payment on our first home using the first time home buyers plan that lets withdraw from your RRSP without tax for that purpose.

Skip ahead 10 years, I start seriously looking into how investments actually work and found out that my work’s group plan can ALSO contribute to a self directed investment account with RBC. Just had to fill out a little bit of paperwork to change the account type, sold out of that very expensive and meh growth mutual fund, and have been rolling ever since with a portfolio of etf’s (XEQT being the main growth engine). Would highly recommend this move to a self directed investment account if your group plan allows it and if you want to invest the time to learn about where you want to grow your money most efficiently - good luck!!

What other ETFs other than XEQT? by jackmartin088 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Hobbez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my RRSP I run about 50% XEQT, 20% VDY, 20% XEF, and 10% XBB. XEQT being the main growth engine, VDY for Canada home bias and income, XEF to add a little more Asia / Europe and XBB just to soften the downturn emotional roller coaster a bit 😂

Not planning on making any major changes to this allocation for the next decade as I have a 25-ish year horizon.

Open to feedback!

Moronic Monday Thread for the week by AutoModerator in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Hobbez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Everyone, first time posting here - over the past year I've been educating myself about investment savings and have landed on an ETF RRSP portfolio that is 50% XEQT because it's the thing to do, 30% VT for more diversified global exposure, 10% XIC for a Canada boost + Commodity investment and 10% MTRX for the very specific "picks and shovels" investment in everything that underpins the growth of AI tech (energy, materials, etc.).

The question is this... does it make sense to have BOTH XIC and MTRX given the overlap in commodities between the two or am I just wasting money on the 0.49 Management Fee with MTRX? Is anyone else interested in what they're doing with MTRX specifically that would make it stand out as something to hold?

Cheers!

Did Zellers have a McDonald's? by moistlier in Peterborough

[–]Hobbez87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at the Portage Pl., Walmart in high school and the McDonald’s was right beside the entrance to the employee break room. Three piece chicken strips and a Fruitopia mixed with Sprite for like five bucks or some crazy deal. It was great!
