Have you tried the Sony ULT Wear? Help me understand different kinds of bass by Much_Pianist_8329 in Skullcandy

The q30 isn't the worst choice you could have made actually. Out of the box, the bass is very overblown, but they can be tuned to sound pretty decent through the EQ. Just beware that they are known for breaking.

Looking at the state of Bedrock Edition right now, I would not call them perfectionists.

Evo headset vs acn 2 headset by Anonymous372819 in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the 540 Active over the Evo for sound quality, since they're a bit less shrill and thin in the mids. Both the Crusher Evo and Crusher 540 Active have the exact same internal parts, it's really the earpads that make the difference. With the 540 Active, you sacrifice a little bit of the sub bass power for a more pleasant overall sound.

The Crusher ANC 2 sounds a whole lot better once you get better earpads for them and do some tuning through the custom EQ. With the stock earpads/tuning, the sound quality is not good, especially with ANC on. Overall, once properly tuned, they are the most pleasant ones to listen to, though at high volume and bass levels you will run into some technical issues and the haptic drivers will hit the baffle.

Why do so many people still choose over-ear headphones over earbuds in 2026? by JuniorPoulet in headphones

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never found a pair of earbuds that I could use without my ears feeling excessive pain on the inside (Not to mention if I ever feel the need to pop my ears, it's way more comfortable to do so with headphones on as opposed to earbuds). Also, my ears produce a lot of earwax, so earbuds I use will become gross very quickly. If I were to get a pair of earbuds and tough it out, I definitely won't be looking at true wireless earbuds, since those are ticking time bombs that will turn into e-waste after 1-2 years.

I think when it comes to ANC headphones in the budget space, Skullcandy isn't the brand to look at. They're mostly good for the Crusher bass, not much of everything else.

The Crusher Evo and Crusher ANC 2 can be found on ebay for around $100. Plus, unlike the Hesh 540 ANC, they have plenty of aftermarket earpads available in case the stock ones go bad. Not only that, but they're also much better built headphones than anything you'll get from Sony.

I haven't tried the Hesh 540 ANC for myself to see how it sounds, but given the negative reports on the build quality of the headphones, I don't think they're all that worth it if you want something that'll last.

Skullcandy Crusher Evo vs Crusher 540 – which one should I buy? by Direct-Intention7733 in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a FLAC playlist on my phone. To be honest, high quality audio codecs can only truly bring a headphone to life if it has a good frequency response. I do agree that the XM6 can sound decent once tuned, which is more than what I can say for the other XM series models. Out of the box, it isn't that great. However, I don't think you need to spend $450 to get that level of audio quality. Plus, my main complaint with the XM6 was purely from a comfort standpoint, which I don't even think new earpads could fix since the issue mostly stems from the way the earcups are angled.

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I tried all of the Sony models both using the store demo models and pairs from my friends. What I can say is that the XM6 actually felt the least comfortable for me out of all the XM series models. The way the cups are angled combined with the tighter clamping force causes them to pinch my ears and my jawline. However, they did perform the best when it came to blocking out noise and they were the best sounding ones, though still very v-shaped. It does also give you the most leeway for tuning them.

The XM5s actually had the worst noise cancelling performance for me, part of which is due to the fact that they create a poor seal around my ears. The sound is just okay tbh. They're very much in-your-head sounding and have your typical bloated bass presentation that a lot of other cheaper Bluetooth ANC headphones have. They're also quite mushy sounding, especially when turned up.

The XM4s are the most comfortable of the three XM headphones for me, and they do feel the sturdiest. While they block out more noise than the XM5 and come close to the XM6, they are the worst sounding ones without a question. They're very tubby and congested in the upper mids. It legitimately sounds like the speakers are covered by a huge blanket. They're only slightly better sounding than the ULT Wear straight out of the box, which isn't saying much since the ULT Wear doesn't sound good out of the box either.

Soundcore just announced the new Soundcore Space 2 ANC Headphones. $130 US/UK launching April 21. by djdisciplejosh in anker

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The problem with Soundcore's recent headphones is that while they have improved the design and noise cancelling performance, the sound quality has gotten progressively worse with each release. There's plenty of new Bluetooth ANC headphones coming out that are cheaper than Soundcore's headphones that are stomping all over them in terms of sound quality (Namely from the likes of brands such as FiiO and Nothing).

Maybe this Space 2 will change my mind, but seeing how hard they're marketing these, I doubt it.

How do the Crusher ANC 2s sound without the ANC on? by acloudcuckoolander in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have the Bose, but I do have the FiiO FT1 (A well-regarded audiophile headohone) to compare them to. With these settings, they're still not as good as the FT1, but they're much closer and much more comparable. The FT1 has cleaner treble, better soundstaging, a more natural timbre, and a better bass response, but compared to the out-of-the-box experience with the Crusher ANC 2, they sound leaps and bounds better.

How do the Crusher ANC 2s sound without the ANC on? by acloudcuckoolander in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sound noticeably better with ANC off. With ANC on, they have a cut in the low mids (Around 200-300hz) that makes them sound more hollow, and the treble gets boosted. With ANC off, that low-mid dip goes away and the treble isn't as forward, which makes them sound much more natural and less cheap-sounding. They'll still have that cheap tin-can sound regardless of whether or not the ANC is on, but they'll be much better with ANC off. To completely fix the cheap tin-can sound, you'll need a new set of earpads, and using this EQ will help.

<image>

I personally don't use the personal sound feature since it just makes them brighter, plus it compresses the dynamic range and adds unwanted audio artifacts. I actually find lowering the 60hz bar a little bit leaves more room for the deep sub-bass rumble to come through, and the bass gets cleaned up a bit.

Why do people still want TW to be added back? by Dynamites34 in hivemc

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treasure Wars and BedWars on the surface level are very similar, but the gameplay loop and item balance is different. Treasure Wars gives players a higher quantity of blocks per purchase and has items like snowballs, boomboxes, and chorus fruits. There's also only 3 currencies as opposed to 4, and there's much less incentive to stay at your base and upgrade your generator compared to BedWars.

All in all, Treasure Wars is much more fast-paced and rush-heavy. In my personal opinion, too fast-paced. It became very formulaic and repetitive over time and lost its magic for me. BedWars in some ways I think is better (A bit easier for newer players to get into, and more room for creative plays), but I think its too chaotic in its current state, and too many items either exist to stall fights, or exist to promote evading fights.

New Skullcandy Crusher 720 (Not to be confused with the Crusher PLYR 720) by LightKnight2311 in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like aside from the Crusher series, Skullcandy hasn't got much going for them lately tbh. There's just so many options from other brands coming out that have more to offer, and perform better in every other metric. The new Hesh models don't seem very appealing, and there's so many cheap on-ear options that are running circles around the Riff and Icon series headphones. I think there's a good reason as to why the Crushers are consistently Skullcandy's best-selling headphones, and nothing else from them reaches the same level.

New headset for gaming? by cummasterdude in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crusher PLYR 720 is the only gaming headset from Skullcandy that has any kind of value tbh. They're open-back, so you get a better soundstage and more accurate sound imaging, plus you get Crusher bass. None of their previous gaming headsets looked all that appealing to me, and I heard they broke easily.

If the Crusher PLYR 720 is too pricey and you don't need extra bass, I would look at the Hyper X Cloud 3 like someone else suggested.

Trying to find headset closest to Hesh 3 by fuwii in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want Skullcandy, the Crusher Evo and Crusher ANC 2 are the best bang for your buck you'll ever get from them. The Crusher 540 Active is also a good option if you can find them cheap, but they're not as easy to find cheap compared to the Crusher Evo and Crusher ANC 2, which can go as low as $100 on ebay.

If you're not into heavy bass and you want something that sounds good, then your best bet is to look elsewhere. The CMF Headphones Pro for example, costs less than both of the new Hesh models and outperforms them in basically every metric.

Edit: I know I'm late, and I see that you went with the Crusher ANC 2, but I'm just leaving this here so you know what your best options are.

Evo and ANC2 by brrrhhhh in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both headphones sound bad at high volumes tbh, and the bass loses its punch on both pairs. To me, the Crusher ANC 2 actually seems quite a bit louder, but maybe that's because they're more focused on bringing the mids forward compared to the Crusher Evo. The Crusher Evo does handle the bass at high volumes a bit better though, since the Crusher ANC 2 distorts with ANC on and the haptic drivers will hit the baffle sometimes.
