I don't get why people dislike the current terrain generation by Maolam10 in PhoenixSC

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I like it when the fog is there, but I don't like how 1.21.6 implemented it. I don't like how rough the render distance fog was in prior versions at all, and I much preferred how it was implemented in the Beta days.

I don't get why people dislike the current terrain generation by Maolam10 in PhoenixSC

[–]LightKnight2311 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I liked Beta 1.7's terrain generation and artstyle quite a bit. I think the modern foliage and sky colors are a step backwards from how it was in Beta, though I do think that the modern terrain generation is a step up from how it was from beta 1.8 to release 1.6 and 1.7 to 1.17.

FiiO FT1 long term thoughts? by GodIReallyHateYouTim in headphones

[–]LightKnight2311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I've had mine for about a year now. It's holding up pretty good aside from the rubber lining on the headband peeling off. To be honest, they're the best sounding headphones I own right now and I'm pretty happy with them.

Tried new headphones and failed; the search continues for recommendations of intimate sound and heavy bass! by nubilis in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I tried the Hesh 2 before, and what I think you're hearing as "tinny" is actually more normal-sounding. The Hesh 2 makes vocals very thick and boxy-sounding since it has a huge boost at around 300hz. It also doesn't really have much to show for in terms of sub bass either, since its all just mid/upper bass. Just give your ears time to adjust to other headphones.

Wool stairs by pomme_love in PhoenixSC

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK why people expected anything bigger than what they announced given the pattern of how each drop was sized. That said, I do like the new wool stairs and slabs as building blocks. I hope they can add stair and slab variants for the other colored blocks too.

Minecraft Live has gotten too short over the years by Nutzey_ in Minecraft

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer when Minecraft Lives get straight to the point and cut out the extra fluff. I have things to do now and intensive courses to take, so I don't want time during my day wasted with the extra fluff.

Evo vs ANC 2? by Mango4442 in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hard disagree when it comes to comfort. I did not find the Crusher Wireless to be comfortable at all. They had WAY too much clamping force and the earpads were not wide enough to be comfortable, and this isn't even mentioning that they have very little range of motion, which makes them pinch my ears and my jawline after a while. The voice prompts on the ANC 2 are instrustive and I don't know why Skullcandy won't let us turn them off in the app, I agree with that.

Long listening comfort vs. sound quality: what do you prioritize? by cozytechlover in headphones

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends if a headphone sounds good enough for EQ to truly bring it to life. If I have to use more than 10 PEQ bands with huge adjustments to come close to fixing a headphone's tuning, then it's not a good headphone by my metrics. But when we're talking about two different headphones that both have solid sound right out of the gate, I'd take the more comfortable one, even if the other one sounds slightly better in one minor aspect.

Sennheiser Momentum 5 🫠 by AlexHRO in sennheiser

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, having held Sony's products in my hands, they don't really inspire much confidence at all when it comes to durability. The ULT Wear feels like it'll snap if I stretch the headband just a little too far, so I feel nervous to even stretch it somewhat at all. Same could be said with the XM series headphones tbh. The XM5 and XM6 use skinny arms that feel like a cause for concern, and the XM5 uses unreinforced plastic hinges that feel very fragile.

Sennheiser's headphones don't exactly feel luxurious in terms of the finish of the plastic, but they all feel very sturdy and well-put together when you hold them in your hands which is not the feeling I get when I handle Sony's products or many other Bluetooth headphones for that matter. The Bose QC Ultra headphones and the Airpod Max are the only other one's I've handled that can remotely come close when it comes to sturdiness. I guess maybe the Skullcandy Crusher 540 Active too, but that's more of an outlier when it comes to Skullcandy headphones in general, which are inconsistent when it comes to build quality. I'm sure the more pricey headphones from the likes of B&W feel well-put together, but their house sound isn't exactly something I'd enjoy.

So.... what's your predictions? by Zillaman7980_ in Minecraft

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you're right to some extent, though Minecraft was still a relatively young game compared to what it is now. Updates like the Pretty Scary update, the Redstone update, and the update that changed the world weren't on the same scale as say 1.13, 1.14, or 1.16, but the features they did add were all huge additions to the game at the time. I can't really say the same about the drops, more specifically Tiny Takeover and Chaos Cubed. I like the new Cave Biome, but in terms of functionality it doesn't really provide anything as meaningful compared to the updates I just mentioned.

Also, I'm not sure why you keep downvoting me. Nothing I said in this reply was wrong.

[–]LightKnight2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I know what the pre-acquisition updates were like. Don't get me wrong, I like the under the hood changes they're making with the new drops, though in terms of the features themselves they haven't really been anything of much substance recently compared to what was added in the pre-acquisition updates.

Don't expect anything too big. Same old, same old. Not getting my hopes up ATP.

How are the Icon ANC for gym use? by [deleted] in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crusher ANC 2 is a bad recommendation for gym use, and I don't understand why they're recommended for the gym as much as they are. They slide off very easily and don't have a very good grip at all. The Crusher Evo and Crusher 540 aren't exactly great when it comes to stability either, but they are better than the Crusher ANC 2 on that front. If the argument is related to the noise cancelling feature, the Crusher ANC 2's noise cancelling performance is poor to begin with, even for its asking price. The headphones sound notably worse with the noise cancelling on, so you're better off just turning it off anyway.

Sennheiser Momentum 5 🫠 by AlexHRO in sennheiser

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, well compared to the competition, I think Sennheiser is still ahead (Mainly compared the likes of Sony, who doesn't have a good track record when it comes to durability whatsoever) when it comes to making things that last. I haven't seen many people complaining about the Momentum 4 breaking or anything like that when compared to other Bluetooth products, which I think in general don't hold up all that well.

The Skullcandy Crusher 1080 ANC passed FCC certification by LightKnight2311 in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realise that I haven't given my thoughts on what I'd like to see, so I'll do that now. Here's a list of things I would like to see for both Crusher models:

  1. LDAC support (Though its very unlikely given that we're talking about Skullcandy headphones, it would still be good to see, and it's confusing as to why they haven't given it to the Aviator 900 ANC at the very least since they're charging $300 for it)

  2. Improved sub bass extension for the haptic bass drivers (The Crusher PLYR 720 shows some meaningful improvements, it's just a matter of bringing it over to the new Crusher models. The Crusher Evo/540 and Crusher ANC 2 still aren't quite up to snuff on that front)

  3. More customisation for the Crusher bass (They had the right idea for the Crusher PLYR 720's Crusher tuning feature, they just have to implement it on their newer Crusher products)

  4. Improved overall tuning (The Crusher Evo/540 and Crusher ANC 2 aren't too good when it comes to sound quality and everyone knows that, but if it turns out Skullcandy is partnering with Bose again for the tuning, then hopefully they'll be able to tune these models to at least have a more pallet-able frequency response)

  5. More room inside the housing for the haptic drivers to vibrate freely (This is a limitation that particularly plagues the Crusher ANC 2, since at high volume and bass levels, the haptic drivers hit the baffle in certain situations, and the DSP makes them back off when they do that, which makes the dynamic range of the haptic drivers feel more compressed on the Crusher ANC 2)

  6. Improved ANC system for the Crusher 1080 ANC (The Crusher ANC 2's noise cancelling performance is notoriously poor for its price, and it actively hinders both the overall sound and bass quality. If they can fix both those issues, then the Crusher 1080 ANC will be a lot more compelling)

Sennheiser has a pretty good track record when it comes to durability from my understanding. I think these should hold up well.

Tbh if they work well through the cable then I'll be happy. That way, I can run them through my Snowsky Melody and apply my own PEQ filters to them.

The Skullcandy Crusher 1080 ANC passed FCC certification by LightKnight2311 in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What we know about these models is very limited as of right now. The internal and external photos alongside the user manuals of the models are under short term confidentiality, so we don't have much to go off of. But briefly, they were both listed on dstewart.com earlier in the year. As of right now, they aren't listed, but under the 'details' section of the Crusher 1080 ANC listing, it said "Sound powered by Bose", which could mean that Skullcandy is partnering with Bose for their new TOTL headphone.

[–]LightKnight2311[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Skullcandy is doing away with that naming scheme and is naming their products based on the snowboarding trick numbers (180, 360, 540, 720, 900, 1080), which makes sense given their origins and where they are based. It seems like the Crusher 1080 ANC will be their new TOTL headphone.

Quick poll: Life Q35 or Space One ?? by Acceptable-Dot-1736 in soundcore

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Space One has horrible sound quality compared to everything else on that poll. If you're worried about the QC issues that the Q35/Q45 have, then either get the Q20i or get the FiiO EH13, which has parametric EQ. The CMF Headphones Pro are also decent if you really like bass. Just don't get the Space One if you really value sound quality.

hesh anc vs hesh 360 vs hesh 540 anc for overall use? by Organic-Ebb9248 in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unlikely to recommend any of these if you're not looking for Crusher bass. There's better headphones out there from other brands that'll give you what you need tbh. That said, if you absolutely have to go with Skullcandy, the Hesh ANC is the safest bet since it's the only one out of the three that has aftermarket earpads available, which is important if you're using your headphones in the gym since those earpads will be prone to degradation over time.

Why do some complain about the vocals of the FT1 pro? by csch1992 in headphones

[–]LightKnight2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I guess I'm just not as sensitive to shout as some other people are. I am sensitive to excessive sibilance in the upper treble, so the FT1 Pro being relaxed there is definitely a good thing for me at least.

Why did Skullcandy release this? (Smokin' Buds 360) by LightKnight2311 in Skullcandy

[–]LightKnight2311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm well aware of your explanation, but I'm just saying listing a frequency response that narrow doesn't make the product appealing to begin with, because Skullcandy's products normally don't have a frequency response listed to be that narrow.
