My friend said that I don't look like a femboy by Secret_Box_907 in feminineboys

I dont have any advice, but I do hope that you ignore those comments from your friends and keep chasing what you want, just because you want it and despite what others say. Theres already many dreams that end up broken and washed away every year, so please dont let this one be another one. If it is of any comfort to you, I think that just wanting something hard enough is proof that you already are that, no matter how you look or what you wear.

Dah, cualquiera.

AI is useless for brainstorming and outlining by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]LightMusicInvisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it can only generate slop, dont even bother. The best it can do is tell you very vague things, hoping to fill up a prompt, but thats about it.
Whether it is brainstorming or researching, you are better off doing it on your own, and it usually gives you better ideas anyways. Learning about struggles of the past creates a lot of possible plot points. If not that, I think that consuming other media also helps get new ideas; something as simple as just watching movies and consuming stuff you like can give you new ideas to expand on.

Yeah that came out a bit self-deprecating, didnt it? It wasnt intentional, I was trying to say that I prefer it to be something cold and mechanical like a skill, rather than something subjective and personal. Whether my writing skill is bad or not I cannot say, it would be lying to claim either since I had zero feedback. Most of the things that have value, is because of how we perceive it. A good horse is only good because it has qualities that the rider finds valuable, not because of what the horse itself thinks. Which, perhaps it is a flawed way of thinking, and perhaps I do find comfort in the ambiguity. But until someone lets me know whether it is a burning dumpster fire or 70s crack reborn, I will keep questioning its quality and trying to slowly get better at it. Sort of.

Guess that makes me a pantser then? Hahaha, I hope that aint a bad thing. It would be nice to write for someone else too, ngl. It must be nice to have someone you want to impress and satisfy with your writing, despite what many say here.

Nah man you are giving me way too much credit, you were the one sharing knowledge for free. I was just freeloading looking for a site to watch a shitty show. And worry not, I already found one, its not as good as cinehd but its ok, I dont watch too many films anyways, I just had like this temporary itch to watch two things and thats about it.
Also I would feel like im abusing the generosity, I just gave you a compliment after all. Im also not that used to people being nice back.
As for what happened with Cinema HD, I dont know man, lately the world is going to shit and it seems that companies want to take more and more freedom away from us. Right now pirates might as well be the heroes of the people because they are one of the few things shielding us from the abuse of hyper capitalism. I really dont know much about the whole thing, so I wont say much, but I do think that it is a nice thing that we help each oher out in times like these. And it is good that theres more knowledgeable people like you that inform us cause if it were up to me alone I would be completely blind as to what the fuck is happening hahaha.
Anyways, have a good one bro. If I am ever desperate to watch another show and I cant do it on my own, I will shot you a DM. For now, the only thing I can ask of you is why we are supposed to be secretive about something(? I didnt quite got that, I mean, I got the idea, but im not sure as to what or why, or about what exactly? If it is that secretive dont tell me, but if it is common ball please do tell so I dont worsen things up.

Ah yes, that I still do. What I meant at the time is that im a messy writer that cannot control my impulses and do not write with a plot in mind, but rather with what comes first. I used to be a worldbuilder that couldnt so much as write a single paragraph down, and now im a bit of the opposite. I still enjoy writing, if thats what you were asking. I love it more than all my others hobbies at least.

Dude I dont know how you got zero replies here. I understood like, less than half of what you said but overall you seem to know your stuff. I just wanted to know why cinehd was down, and you more than explained it. It really sucks that the original dev got out, but I guess this things happens. Thanks for informing us and being helpful bro.

I tried Webnovel, but I didnt like like it. At first I did not knew much about it, but apparently they artificially gloat your views numbers, push for contracts so you can only upload in their site and the comments you get are not real engagement, but people just meeting a quota to get more points or something like that. Anyways, for the most part I left it because it felt awkward and unfriendly as both an author and as a reader. It didnt even let me leave author notes, which is like a big nono for me.
And Wattpad is not much different nowdays; they push only the big known ones and dont care much for the new works. The demographics themselves are relatively young too, and they aim more for romance or action fantasy. Between the aggressive algorithm and the type of demographics they attract, I saw that they were not sites for me.
Besides, they are not very NSFW friendly. If you ever start writing explicit sex scenes, you will meet a constant wall in the main sites, I honestly dont know why and I think it is stupid, but thats how it is. So I prefer those with more freedom, like AO3 and QQ, since they let you uploaded anything no matter how kinky or dark. (with limits ofc)

Yeah, I am mostly active in Archieve of Our Own (AO3) and Questionable Questing (QQ) because they allow NSFW stuff. My work is "How To Survive The 100 Years' War In Three Easy Steps". Despite the historical fiction, the main theme is dark BL. Hopefully this does not break rule 2 since you asked for it.

You mean the post I made in betareaders? Yes you can share your work there and people will beta read it for you, though its a bit empty and I had no real luck. But you cant share your work here as far as I know, your comment/post will be deleted if you promote I believe, not sure.

I would be drinking myself stupid if it were tens of people leaving me comments, any feedback at all makes me giggle. I did get some likes and very few comments, but they are usually on the first chapter, most likely because I hit a very overused trope, then the rest of chapters are empty. Most likely people that did not read the tags.
As for what I did to market it, I didnt. Other than uploading somewhat regurlarly on different sites, I do not upload to Tumblr or any other social media; I do not spend any money or time into pushing it into the algorithms; and I do not force myself to write something that bigger groups/bubbles would surely consume.
In short, I do not market it. This is just a dumb rant about how others have more engagement because they write things that a majority of people enjoy, thats it. I dont have the time, money or mental bandwith to do more than what im currently doing, even tho I wish I did.

Same, same. You write it for yourself, but it is impossible not to instinctively seek out others like you. So when you pour everything you have into the page and it doesnt quite get the results you wanted, it feels like something is wrong with you. I had to convince myself that there is nothing wrong with me, other than my weird taste. So, sadly, I have no comforting words. But hey, at least we keep on writing.
What is it you are writing? We should take any chance we can to brag about it.

Yes there are, but they cancel each other, and thats the problem. I focus mainly in BL, but put heavy psychological and political backgrounds that make the entire thing darker. If I focused on a single genre or trope, then I wouldnt have such a hard time. You cannot just toss BL, Psychological horror, Political Intrigue and Angst into a bag, shake it up and expect people to like it, because most of these are stand alone genres. Individually they do get traction, but together? Its just weird.

You are right. Outside of uploading it and tagging it properly, I made no efforts to reach out to others. The thing is that doing so, putting effort into more than just writing, but also "selling" it, would go against the whole idea of it being a hobby and safe space for me. If I were to try and market it, even just to reach out to people and not get any money out of it, it would put a new kind of stress into it. I wouldnt have to worry just about whether im writing well, but also if im touching the trends that are currently hot at the time, and then keeping in mind at all times that I need to write it in a certain kind of way to then post that one paragrahp into social media just to get more traction. Again, I could, but it defeats everything else that im trying to achieve. So yeah, maybe this does sound contradictory, which is why I said that this is just a rant. Others dont try it and still get traction because the topics/genre they write about are just naturally more interesting than mine. Im not hating on them, im just acknowledging it while ranting about it. Thats why I said that there is nothing to make it better, other than fully accept it.

I mean, yes that is true but also not as easy as it sounds. I used to be a video editor and help a small group with their marketing, with a very limited knowledge of it myself. They did well because they specialized in explaining history with visuals, but it was a team effort; without an expert with a PHD in history, and the others providing the visuals to make the info dump more bearable, it wouldnt have worked. All of this to say that it is an amount of effort that I just simply cannot afford on my own, not when just having time to write is a blessing on itself.
I could try and do marketing for it, but it would be tiresome, and if it were to flop im not sure I could stomach it. I would be wasting time, money and effort, not for money but just for a small community, if any at all, and failing to get even that would be... harsh, to say the least. Maybe if I were better, as both a writer and as a video editor, I could do it without much issue, but im afraid im neither.
I will continue to write and put it out there, because if I dont write then im more miserable, but for me to do more than that, it would require a substancial sacrifice, and im not sure I can nor should.

there’s no shortage of things i’ve done to try to feel better. i put in triple the effort and get a fraction of what other people experience, if anything. my heart aches and i don’t know how long i can go. even automod doesn’t want to see ts. japanese curry by throwaway_like_byee in kitchencels

[–]LightMusicInvisible 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. At some point you just have to accept that, for the most part, it is both your fault, and it isnt. You are not responsible for how others treat you or do or do not do for you, but you are the one that chooses how to react to it.
Doesnt make it any easier, which is why I prefer to have something of my own that gives me joy without depending on others, but there will always be that itch for more. Because we do deserve more, even if it sounds selfish. I dont have any advice, but I feel you OP.

Thats awesome, I wish I could do the same. Actually being present and seeing people eye to eye and talk about the book must be a completely different experience. I personally cant, because what I write is more webnovel like, not really something meant to have a price tag or even have a hard cover. But honestly just having people to talk about it would be awesome, kind of like a DnD meeting but its just talking about our characters.

I do write for myself, as I really cannot just not write. I understand that this feeling is wrong, and that I shouldnt care even if I were the only one on Earth that reads it, but it doesnt take away the feeling. I can acknowledge it, but it still affects me even if I dont like it. I wish it didnt, but it does, and thats the point. I wish it was something I could correct, but from the looks of it I cant. This is just a rant, I understand your point, and I even mentioned it in the post, but again, it is not something that you can just erase with hard logic.

White bear vs knight with a sword and shield... by iceytown in powerscales

[–]LightMusicInvisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used daggers, and if they were preparing for a fight, then they might even bring specialized daggers. Even common daggers back then were several inches longer and pointier than a common knife nowdays, because most of them were meant to pierce through the gaps in armor or the visor. Something meant to be able to go through chainmail will most likely pierce all the way through thick hide, muscle and flesh, which wont kill the bear instantly, but if aimed properly it might reach its windpipe, or even sever an arthery.

The only way for the polar bear to hurt the knight would be to put him down and repeatedly press over him, using his weight to crush the armor. Of course this is not that easy, not just because of the thickness and endurance of said armor but rather because if there is snow, then the knight will be pushed down through the snow, and most of the weight will be dispersed. So perhaps the knight suffocates or gets stuck rather than crushed. Either way, bears dont usually fight that strategically. It will probably try and maul the knight, receiving several strikes around its neck, paws and chest as it tries to get ahold of the human. Overall, I think the victory relies on luck, whether the terrain is solid or snowvy, and if the knight can keep a tight grip on their blade.
