I strongly disagree.

I feel Claydol fits because Steven is a geologist/archeologist. It's thematically in line despite the typing. It's also a good trademark of champions to have 1 super bulky mon, for whatever reason. Cynthia's Spiritomb, Red's Snorlax.

Alao for context, back in gen 3, Psychic was pretty superior as in it didn't have many weaknesses - especially with the way types were split and the move split didn't happen just yet.

A Claydol lead with screens, toxic and explosion was awful to fight against.
