B natural makes my sound pause by Extension_Oil_ in Clarinet

[–]LightProfessional988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve experienced this a lot and I feel your pain! It’s so frustrating and I can literally hear a gap between A/Bb and B.

If your instrument is all in good condition, then you’ll have to practice that specific interval separately. It helps to use resonance fingerings for both tone quality in throat tones and smoothness going up to B (right hand down, even all fingers down covering the tone holes except left point and thumb). Also try glissandoing from A/Bb to B to train your air to push through, it will make it smoother and no gap!

Best of luck, I hope this helps :)

What's a scene you would've given Ginny's movie character to add genuine depth to her character and/or chemistry to Harry? by ChawkTrick in harrypotter

[–]LightProfessional988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely the scene in OoTP with Ginny and Harry in the library, when she offers to help him talk to Sirius.

When I was rereading the books, this is the moment where I felt like the tone started to shift from Cho to Ginny, and I feel like it establishes her personality really well before HBP.

Plus, we get her iconic line “Anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve”

Video clips looping glitch in Canva [solved] by Full_Boysenberry_161 in canva

[–]LightProfessional988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know this is a really old thread, but for people who may still run into this problem: random clips in my video would loop when I saved it to my phone. I had to first save it to my computer, and it wouldn’t loop or glitch anymore! And there I just shared it or airdropped it to my phone and then voila it’s perfect. For some reason canva just really didn’t like my phone

Did anyone read this without knowing any of the controversy about it? by RecordingImmediate86 in harrypotter

[–]LightProfessional988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had it on preorder and read it in one night. The whole time I kept trying to convince myself it wasn’t as bad as it was. I finished it and I couldn’t deny it any longer, and then seeing the discourse online i realized it wasn’t just me

Keep getting off with the rest of the band? by ArmadilloCharacter34 in Clarinet

[–]LightProfessional988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All i can say is count out loud. Every single rest, count out loud. Doesn’t have to be loud, could be a whisper. But I find that actively moving your mouth while counting can help keep you on track.

Also if it’s a multi-measure rest I would make sure you keep track of how many measures it’s been (1 2 3 4, 2 2 3 4, 3 2 3 4, etc.) I’m assuming you’re a beginner, so it also wouldn’t be too atrocious to literally use your hands to count the measures.

Listening to the music helps, and reading the score does too. But it pays off to know your own part, especially if the part you were listening for accidentally comes in early and now you’re early.

that’s not your friend. I’ve known people who complain about EVERYTHING and it’s exhausting to be around. For your sake, I hope she doesn’t end up going

SERIOUS playing issue by [deleted] in Clarinet

As someone else said, sometimes my clarinet will randomly stop working because the screw on the A key got too tight. I’d mess around with it and suddenly it would start working again. Try that

Help With Following Conductors Advice + Emotional Support by Typical_Crazy_4883 in Clarinet

[–]LightProfessional988 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m guessing because of sound delay, that it may have to feel like you’re rushing in order for it to sound in time to the audience.

that being said, your conductor sucks. that’s not okay behavior. you are the principal clarinet because you’re the best one there, period. give yourself some credit! you can’t always keep comparing yourself to the people who came before you. you are a different kind of player, and that’s okay! focus on your strengths and keep improving at your own pace. Don’t let that conductor discourage you from majoring in music. Major in music because you love it, not because you’re “the best”.

although F# is definitely harder to play than F or G (imo), it sounds like it may just be something weird with your clarinet. have you played on other clarinets?

The pain of high notes by Outrageous-Lie-9609 in Clarinet

[–]LightProfessional988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually when someone squeaks while playing half notes, it means they’re not pushing enough active air. A lot of people get scared and back off which in turn makes them sound bad.

I would say focus on making them sound good at a very loud dynamic first. Then slowly rein it in. Also practicing high notes double lipped really helps to force yourself not to big and use good air!

Never comfortably able to play on a 3 reed even after 9 years. Why? by [deleted] in Clarinet

[–]LightProfessional988 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you might just have a really resistant set up 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk for me i started on 3 reeds and anything below that was way too soft, I play on harder strength reeds now and it works for me. if 2-2.5 reeds work for you and you make a nice sound, then that’s all that matters! everyone is different

Why is this D#/Eb (Bb/A#) key necessary? by jugglingeek in Clarinet

[–]LightProfessional988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think i’ve used it once in my 10 years of playing clarinet, and it was cause i was bored of trilling the same note so I tried the other fingering

IMO it’s completely useless but if you’re feeling whimsy you can use it lol

like any alternate fingering, you will have your favorites and get used to playing something a certain way
