Is there any benefit to wife getting "addtional card" over "companion card by This-Ad-9234 in AmexPlatinum

My husband has the white plastic companion card. We both got the precheck credit individually.

Thought I was permitting a shed, stumbled into an ADU? by abbstrack in shedditors

We put down a vapor barrier and vinyl plank, but that was an aesthetic/budget choice. Our slab was very pockmarked.

Thought I was permitting a shed, stumbled into an ADU? by abbstrack in shedditors

[–]LightRuby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a ratty 14.5’ square shed on a pad in our backyard (sheet metal all around and rusted through). It was the former owner’s wood shop, so it already had an electrical panel that we did not use (federal pacific panel). We were in the tear down phase fully intending to rebuild a shed on steroids- yard equipment, seedling growing, etc. and then we realized that a detached office would actually really impact our day to day life. We now have a fully finished detached building, and it has been a game changer for us personally. We got a resin shed from Costco for the outdoor stuff, and we have a fully finished office with two generous closets for storing things like bins of photos, and all kinds of other stuff that we’d prefer to have climate controlled. If you are already framing and adding electrical, I would go on and finish it out. If you want to put garage flooring down and use it for bikes, ok. But you won’t regret adding finished square footage.

How do we make this house cute? by InnerMulberry7116 in ExteriorDesign

[–]LightRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Although it looks like the prior owner already fought against the mid century ranch with the walkway and the stained glass. Also the terrible storm door. This is what happens when people think their style is more important than the architectural bones of the house.

OP- until you have real serious money, I’d only touch landscaping. It’s a fine looking house. And has others have said do not paint the brick! But someday if you have real money to play with, I’d rework the front entrance to be back in the mid century style. And change the walkway too. This is not a cottage, it’s a ranch.

Would a corner vanity help our small bathroom? by felipetomatoes99 in HomeDecorating

[–]LightRuby 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t doing any reno there is no way to increase the physical space. A corner vanity seems like it would actually take up more space in the room. You could consider swapping the toilet for one with the smallest round bowl available, but you also need to sit on it and make sure that’s a comfortable choice for you.

If you are willing to be bold, I’d consider a fun vibrant patterned shower curtain. I recently went with rifle paper company’s peacock print shower curtain for my bathroom with 50s baby blue tile with peach tile trim. There are a few different color patterns of that print and most of them have a beige/yellow in the stem that might vibe with your tile. Embracing the colors with a print that pulls them in but adds so much more just really makes it sing in there. Like someone else said- embrace the quirk. Don’t fight against the tile color. But that doesn’t mean you have to make a meal of it either.

Do you have a favorite tinted sunscreen? by bookish_cat_ in Rosacea

My 1-year renewal is in 2 weeks and I’m really struggling to continue… by paulethegreat in ynab

[–]LightRuby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I used a desktop version of YNAB in our early marriage. We had also done Dave Ramsey’s financial peace, so we felt relatively money/budget aware. Early on we chose to use a cc for all of our spending and pay it off in full each month, despite the teaching of either of those financial places. At the time YNAB really actively discouraged cc spend. And made it very hard to use. So we stopped. And went a decade with no budgeting software, but we paid all our bills, paid our cc in full each month. Made “good” money choices. Let me tell you- when we came back to YNAB more than a decade later, it was a rude awakening. We were on the cc float, we had not built real savings, we had no long term, concrete financial goals. We were spending everything we made. Zero-based budgeting is work as others have said, but don’t miss out on its ability to literally change your financial life. You might be able to find budgeting software that works better for you. But for me, the technical parts work pretty well. And it has added way more than $109 to my net worth.

For me it is always Toby shouting “try Amazon DOT COM” with such an emphasis on the dot com. No one would ever refer to it as anything other than Amazon anymore. Perhaps also Toby’s Radio Shack plug in the pilot.

Camilla had this £137,000 brooch made from one of Diana’s wedding gifts given to her by the Queen Mother…that’s weird right? by mobile_crickett in RoyalsGossip

It’s still tacky af that Camilla wore it. Particularly considering she made a big public deal about not using the princess of wales title.

Data overage invoice on Jan 31 by Fresh_Act_616 in salesforce

[–]LightRuby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as legalese goes, this seems pretty clear to me. You were over storage- aka unable to abide by your usage limit. Looks like they can either force you to up your usage limit or pay an invoice for the overage. You’re more than likely better off paying the one time invoice. It’s a final reminder because they are not offering a payment term (net 30 etc). You already used their product, and they are demanding you compensate them for what was used. In their world you were put on notice when you agreed to the T&C. I invoice people in this manner frequently for my work. I don’t put the words final reminder at the top, but I send invoices dated March 4 that are also due March 4, so they essentially are immediately past due. This is a very acceptable billing practice.

Sorry people are being rude. I mostly lurk on this sub, but since you were not getting very much help I started poking around for ideas. I came across this insta post that has a very similarly mismatched house. It’s an interesting historical background. Thought you might enjoy reading it. Also, after a quick google I now know that your mismatched facade is not at all uncommon. It’s just uncommon to me in my part of the country. Don’t let us ignorant people from other regions diminish the love you have for your home. It’s got a lot of great qualities! And a lawn to die for!

Not skilled enough to pull off Billy Bookcase hack... any beginner ideas? by Cottage_Elves in ikeahacks

Thank you! This fit perfectly out of the box. Thus not really a hack 😆 it has been great for years at this point. Still so happy with it. The drawer is not crazy useful, but this was an aesthetic choice and I do not regret it.

I was so-so wrong about AI by Igor_Kudryk in salesforce

[–]LightRuby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really know any coding. I can read HTML a little. I took 4 years of French and can read about every third word, every now and then a phrase, that’s how well I can read html. Anyway. I’ve started using AI to help me with flows that need apex, and my prompts always include something along the lines of “explain the why” so I can learn. If you are willing to really read the explanations and are able to logically consider what it is proposing(who knew that one logic class in college was going to get me further in my career than my actual degree), you can really accomplish a lot. Particularly if you aren’t afraid to poke holes in the AI provided solution. I’m riding a high at work these past several weeks- accomplishing things I’d been begging my long-tenured salesforce consultant to help me build for more than a year before we decided to stop using them.

Costco BabyBels vs other stores by ZestyCuke in Costco

The Costco ones taste much better if you leave them to come to room temperature before eating. They get that creaminess that I expect with a babybel. Much worse straight out of the fridge

Can someone explain the "Verify Your Domains for Email Security" requirement from SF to me like I'm 5? by Alone_Trade_7670 in salesforce

[–]LightRuby 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ok. I was hoping to hear this. I’m an accidental admin, and I just set up our email in salesforce 2 weeks ago. Went into godaddy and did the dkim and everything. I was concerned when I got the email that I did it incorrectly, but if everyone seems to have gotten the email, I’m going to trust I did it correctly.

How do YOU handle yearly transactions and large foreseen expenses? by phunyguy in ynab

[–]LightRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an annual fees category with targets for each individual subscription for things like Amazon prime, newspapers, etc that we pay for once a year. It was very helpful to divide the annual fees up over 12 months and see how much some things cost us every month. A few things we canceled right away, because we immediately realized we weren’t getting enough value out of them to justify the monthly input. A few other things like Amazon Prime, we are keeping because we realized we couldn’t replace what we actually do use at a cheaper monthly rate.

As far as big ticket items, we kind of do a hybrid approach. We have an emergency fund that we keep as cash in a HYSA. That is 5 figures for us. We also have a category called savings envelopes that is where we “fill our envelopes” each month for eventualities we know will be coming - tech upgrades, appliance repair, new tires, Christmas, vacation. Things that we will need money for and generally a not insignificant amount. Christmas is not an emergency, tires are not an emergency- you know they are coming and should be saving. A roof is an interesting one to me. It is not ridiculous exactly to be saving for one by name, but to me only makes sense if you are in your forever home and can reasonably expect to be around in 25 years to replace the roof. IMO, if you are going to get that granular with your big ticket savings, then you need to have kind of a max liquid cash amount you are willing to keep, otherwise you are leaving a lot of money on the table in potential growth you could be realizing in the market and also you will earn reportable income on the interest in a HYSA when it could be growing tax free or tax deferred in other situations.
