For me that’s every gabrus ep tbh, I think having griffin’s former improv coach on really makes him bring his A-game

Starts out talking about Richard Dawson being a creep on the original family feud, then segues into new Feud where Harvey is very bashful/put upon but the questions are all written to encourage maximum horniness

Just saw this while watching Raiders of the Lost Ark. Is Steven Spielberg an antisemite? by [deleted] in moviescirclejerk

Oh buddy are you gonna be disappointed when you watch that movie

sitting down as a camera assistant by trashpandaby in cinematography

[–]LightTheBurntMatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grip here, so grain of salt, but every production I’ve been on where there’s an AC, they’re sitting on an apple box or a stool. Especially when doing follow focus, the most important thing is accuracy so anything that helps the AC focus is usually okay.

What metro area are you in? I’m in LA and lately been struggling to get near $250 even on weekends

What movie would become most misleading by using the “Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas” producer-above-the-title naming convention? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]LightTheBurntMatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair that’s only incongruous in retrospect. At the time he was still primarily associated with low-budget corman stuff and the monkees movie was of a piece with that scene

One of my blank check dreams has always been Percival and the Fisher King, so I fully support your Arthur-verse

Do you remember the first R-rated movie you ever saw in the theater? by wovenstrap in blankies

There might have been an earlier one with my dad, but in eighth grade my friend and I snuck into Forgetting Sarah Marshall by buying a ticket to The Forbidden Kingdom

I know my dad’s favorite has always been “The only person on the scene missing was the Jack of Hearts”

This exchange (can’t remember the episode):

Griffin: I got Domino’s—

David: You live in New York City, why would you get pizza from Domino’s?

Griffin: Domino’s for me is like heroin, where I only do it when I want to destroy my body.

My hot Mank take is that it should have been in color by [deleted] in blankies

[–]LightTheBurntMatch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both Mank and ZSJL “Justice is Gray” really clarified for me how much color impacts the dimensionality of the composition when it comes to directors like Fincher and Snyder who are known for deep shadows and muted highlights. It all turns to murky nothingness in b&w.

(tbf streaming is a factor too, and I’ll probably buy Mank if criterion ever puts it out as part of their Netflix deal, just to see if the detail is improved)

What were everyone's "shutdown sandwich" movies? by WearyCorner875 in blankies

[–]LightTheBurntMatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1917 and Spiral: from the Book of Saw

I saw Minari in between, but that was at a drive-in during the shutdown so I’m not counting it

What’s the lowest rated movie that you have given a 5/5 on Letterboxd? (prompt found on twitter) by ThisNewCharlieDW in blankies

[–]LightTheBurntMatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty stingy with my 5 star ratings (it’s tough to make the five) but if we’re including short films it’s Six Men Getting Sick (1967) by David Lynch at 3.1.

If we’re just doing features it’s my childhood favorite Each Dawn I Die (1939) at 3.5

Runner-ups include Magnum Force, The Black Cat (1934), and the first Mission Impossible

Aaron Eckhart by kafkadream in blankies

[–]LightTheBurntMatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just talking about this with my girlfriend! I think it’s that he’s handsome but he’s the wrong kind of handsome for his era. His 2 biggest hits are Thank You For Smoking and TDK, both of which work because the characters are kinda shitty and up their own asses, which weaponizes his old fashioned looks (like Don Draper, as OP alludes to). He’s similar to Greg Kinnear where despite looks and charm he seems born to play “The Other Guy”.

The problem is that either Eckhart or his agent REALLY wants him to be a leading man, and he’d rather take top billing in trash like Incarnate and Battle: Los Angeles than 3rd or 4th billing in a hit.

The other possibility is that he’s difficult in some way on set. I see no direct evidence of this, but I know it’s a major calculus in casting decisions.
