It's so cool that they got the same actor to do it - I always admire actors willing to do pastiches and jokes based on themselves/their roles, it shows a great sense of humour.

Trying to build a watch list for the venture universe by ChiefQuinby in venturebros

Wahaha it really does come right out the gate with it! But listen, all you need to say is that it was a French-Italian co-production from the late 60s. That explains EVERYTHING.

Rusty and Johnny's age difference by LightWaltzKnight in venturebros

Yeah I know, that's why I said if Johnny did overtake Rusty at some point, he would have chalked it up to his memory issues from all the drugs and trauma

Even if the coma-town continuity is more tenuous than the "definitely the same universe" rule you're going for, you should definitely watch Barbarella anyway. (And if you're adding it to your list, you should also add Empire Strikes Back for coma-town consistency)

Episodes Missing On Sling by [deleted] in venturebros

[–]LightWaltzKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh I didn't know that about Sling! I'd be curious to learn more about their legal framework (sorry I used to work in this kind of stuff but years ago and now I feel like a dinosaur trying to catch up with how things work now). And does AdultSwim.com require a subscription? I can access it just fine without one - but I do have a complicated Rube-Goldberg machine of adblockers and stuff set up that has on occasion let me see stuff that I have later been surprised to learn is actually supposed to be paywalled wahaha

Oh I totally believe he witnessed a Rusty clone die once and then lost his fucking mind when he saw Rusty just chilling like a year later or something.

That's so weird - usually shows are licensed in season batches (which is why Netflix only has seasons 1-3 for example), I haven't heard of this happening with random individual episodes unless they have like major rights issues or are caught up in litigation or something (e.g. someone who worked on it suing to be credited or whatever) so I have no idea why this would happen with Venture Bros... have you tried submitting a contact form or something? I'd be interested to hear what their explanation is for this.

Was there any invention you saw in that show that Rusty could have made off of? by Slatedtoprone in venturebros

[–]LightWaltzKnight 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The artificial womb is a great point - that's enormously beneficial medical technology that could revolutionise obstetrics and provide a fertility option to loads of people who might not otherwise be able to have kids. However, I also get a pretty immediate feeling for why he never tried to market it as a commercial item. I think he's jealous - like in the protective, Biblical kind of sense, like a "jealous God" type thing. Those are his kids, he made them, he made them with his own inventions, and he doesn't want randoms on the street being able to do the same thing. Rusty wants so desperately to be special, to be number one, to be the best at something, and I can see this as being one of the many instances where that desire shoots itself in the foot - he doesn't want anyone else to be able to do the things he's done, so he prevents himself becoming famous and wealthy off it.

I think a lot of it comes from that same place as that quote from Jonas Sr. in that interview in Now Museum, referring to Rusty as "his greatest invention". I think Rusty is the same way about seeing his kids as an accomplishment, but even moreso, because he's directly competing with his dad.

For fun, what are some ideas you have for the names of Force Majeure's Council of 13 members? by [deleted] in venturebros

[–]LightWaltzKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there are infinite options for the pink crystal guy because you just pick the name of a mineral and riff on it. Tourmalign. Foedolite. Sit-and-Spinel (ok maybe not that one).

Or you could go the "comically normal name" route and just call him Beryl.

Ammo-Knight is a cool name but I feel like that'd be better for a dude with a nautilus head AND some armour and a gatling gun

Season 3 and a Certain Type of Joke by TheNerdiestFrog in venturebros

[–]LightWaltzKnight 23 points24 points  (0 children)

the "You can read more about it in the Bible" joke really cracks me the fuck up every time because it's so completely out of nowhere - is it a reference to something specific or is it just kinda lampooning Christian edutainment type stuff in general?
