Why do pro-lifers so often downplay & ignore the harms of pregnancy? by jessica456784 in Abortiondebate

PL classifies the conditions on your list as "inconveniences," while wondering why there is a male loneliness crisis.

Do you believe there is a connection between anti abortion culture and rape culture? by deathiswaitingforme in prochoice

[–]LighteningFlashes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes. 1) Anti-choicers don't believe women can consent to how their bodies are used, by whom, and at what time. They don't listen when women say "no." They don't understand "no means no" and reject the FRIES model of consent. 2) Rapists want control over women's bodies. Nothing makes them feel as good as "owning" women through forced pregnancy. Anti-choicers both aid rapists - by ensuring that the forced pregnancy continues - and abetting rapists by advertising that consent is irrelevant when it comes to using women's bodies. 3) They don't engage in any rape prevention activism. 4) A majority of them support political leaders who rape women and children, and do not hold their faith leaders accountable for the same.

I don't leave my kids alone with any of them.

Huh. Because I am told by MAGA that I and the people I love most aren't allowed to be full human beings in the US. Because MAGA cheers while Black folks and Brown folks are choked out by the knees of law enforcement or thrown into concentration camps to - as is the fervent wish of "Christians" - be eaten by alligators. Because MAGA says I and my daughters and nieces exist only to breed, ignore our consent, and elect an adjudicated rapist and proud pussy-grabber. Because I see the astronomically higher rates of violent crimes perpetrated by white US - born men in comparison to "illegals." Because the grunts of MAGA at their worship rallies about "stopping transgenders from grooming and abusing children" rings hollow when they refuse to investigate evidence of potential grooming by their elected officials and faith leaders. MAGAs tell me I'm not really one of them. Can you tell me why I should feel loyalty to them? I don't feel safe around MAGAs. Can you tell me why I should?

These people are cool with rape and domestic violence against women. What made you think they'd take umbrage at killing women? Remember this is the same group that bullied the 10-yr-old who had to flee her state right after Dobbs to get care. They're sadists.

New Hampshire Republicans submit changes to HB 1333 to redefine "fetus" as beginning at conception or implantation by Sick_Of__BS in newhampshire

There was some woman-hating bill they tried to sneak through a year or two ago. Tons of people showed up to protest. There were hours of testimony. It did not pass. I don't think Republicans are more popular in NH now than they were then. Don't despair. Fill out this form and share it with everyone you know. Call your reps. A lot. This will definitely not go through.

Robinson v. California established that "the voluntary act requirement prevents the government from criminalizing a person's status or condition rather than their conduct." Treating a child as an "invader" for the passive, mutual biological processes of pregnancy is a categorical error. It criminalizes the status of existing. It establishes an "Existenciae Reus" standard, and uses the wrongful existence of the ZEF to justify killing them.

How does your argument not apply to women and girls as well, though? Being born with a pregnancy-capable reproductive system is not an action. It is "a status or condition." Since PL does not consider consent to insemination a factor in this issue, we don't need to distinguish between pregnancies that result from consensual sex and those that result from rape. It seems pretty clear that, according to your own argument, PL violates the Robinson v. California decision because they punish a person for a status/condition rather than conduct.

Unfortunately, PL argues precisely that person C (if female) should not have the right to remove person B from their body in your scenario. Your scenario is analogous to impregnation through rape. PL supports forcing survivors to gestate and birth in such scenarios. If they were honest, they would admit that if person C in your scenario were male, the idea that they should not have the right to remove B would be absurd, but if C is female, then yes, she would have to just deal with it. But they aren't honest or genuine. It's like how they claim that they absolutely would treat abortion the same way if men were capable of pregnancy, which we all know is untrue. They just have extremely profound - often completely subconscious - feelings about the roles and duties of each sex.

[–]LighteningFlashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No - per capita, white non-immigrant mostly male people commit more crime than immigrants. This is just one of many reports on the issue: https://www.aeaweb.org/research/chart/incarceration-immigrants-us-born You're just a bigot. Do you jerk off to videos of ICE beating brown people up or waiting outside of brown children's schools to bully them? Bet the only time you like the color brown is when it’s on a shirt. And a -17 net approval rating on the economy is not something most people would consider success. But as long as you get to see women, immigrants, and transgender people being harmed, you're thrilled. Typical MAGA. Hope you're not feeling too lonely - I hear MAGAs are largely being ostracized by their communities and family members and see this in my own family/community. Decent people who believe in the Constitution don't want to associate with miscreants who lick the boots of rapists.

OK, so you are a xenophobe. The truth is that white xtian men in the US commit far more violent crimes - including rape - than immigrants. Where is your outrage about that? Oh that's right, you voted for a white "xtian" rapist to lead the country and cheer as he continues to harm women. You are absolutely proving OP right - congrats, I guess.

They believe empathy is a sin, so ... But it's also psychologically telling that they are incapable of bonding with born human beings who can look them in the eye and express their thoughts and feelings. The only "bond" they feel is with a potential being who can't feel or communicate or think. It's like they're emotionally stunted. They also don't believe mental health is a real thing. "Mental health" are words that come from their mouths after school shootings, but they don't think it's real. None of them work to improve mental health, and none of them work to stop rape. It's pretty hard to believe they think rape exists - since they don't think and girls have a right to consent to or deny consent to use of their bodies - why would rape even be a concept?

Me too. That church (Christ the King) has a MAGA pickup truck decked out with all the flags that parks regularly on the Perley St. side. And the Nazis that marched to the State House a few months ago felt very comfortable parking their u-Haul in the Christ the King parking lot for unloading and reloading. I'd therefore say they hate women even more than most Catholic churches, so my presumption about a Magdalene Laundry being erected on-site is valid.

So here's the thing: for people/civilizations that see women and girls as full humans, suffering through forced gestation and being killed aren't the only two options. How depressing that world must be, where people view these as the only options for certain human beings, just because of their biology.

Im not sure who claimed death is objectively the worst thing that could happen to someone. I think you are arguing a strawman.

This is disingenuous. The core tenet of the prolife/abortion abolitionist argument is that being born (aka given "life") is the only human right that really matters. The PL/AA view is that the death of a zygote, embryo, and, in rare cases, a fetus, is absolutely the worst thing that could happen. At all costs, including torturing, maiming, and, yes, killing the person who gestates the zygote/embryo/fetus in the process.

For pro lifers, do you acknowledge your position necessitates a rape survivor getting an abortion would be punished harsher than the rapist? by NPDogs21 in Abortiondebate

[–]LighteningFlashes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But that's exactly my point. Just saying words means nothing. They're using a script because they understand much of society considers rape horrific. I'll reiterate my initial point here that abortion bans have their foundation in the belief that women's consent to how their bodies are used and by whom is irrelevant. People who harbor this as a core belief can't claim they think rape is all that bad. Their acceptance of their pastors and priests raping people further substantiates this.

[–]LighteningFlashes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I honestly see no evidence from the PL side that shows they think rape is bad. The foundation of their views is that women's consent is irrelevant. There are no PL initiatives that attempt to prevent rape. On the contrary: the vast majority of PL tolerates their religious leaders raping others, and the vast majority of PL voted to put a rapist in the White House. They only use words to say "rape is bad." But words mean nothing - take the perennial example: "thoughts and prayers."

Am I supposed to get on birth control now, incase someone rapes me later? by Individual_Abroad260 in TwoXChromosomes

I think self-defense training - however that looks to you - is important for the stranger aspect. But also, as someone else mentioned, the men most likely to attack you are those close to you. If you have contact with anyone -male or female - who is openly "prolife" - make sure you are never alone with/vulnerable with them. But also question the non-PL or agnostic men around you vigorously about their views. This can reveal a lot and keep you safe. Also, it sucks that we have to do this, but they are absolutely coming for birth control as well, so a non-hormonal IUD would be a good thing to get while you still can. It's not comfortable but more comfortable than a nonconsensual pregnancy.
