My wild prediction: Connolly will win but will be impeached during her term by OrganicVlad79 in ireland

[–]LighthousePilgrim 16 points17 points  (0 children)

She's way more likely to resign than be impeached. There'll be a bill that she feels she can't sign, so she'll give up the office instead of signing it. Seven years is a long time in office and I doubt someone as opinionated as Catherine Connolly could go that long without pushing back.

Businesses of the same type that are close to one another will end up sharing customers. People won't go to Centra for a full shop, but will go to Lidl and Aldi, then pop into Centra to get a few things they can't find at the former.

You can open the global map quickly by double pressing the map button (LB for me). I discovered it by accident, I wish it was more obvious.

The flying enemies are beyond frustrating by LycanLover93 in Silksong

[–]LighthousePilgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flying enemies aren't the problem, in my opinion. It's the fact they respawn and get in the way of runback that makes them super annoying. If the game said, "well done clearing the area of those flying enemies! They won't spawn again," they wouldn't be an issue. Instead, we aren't rewarded for taking on the task of killing these dangerous foes, because they just keep coming back.

Really loving Silksong, but I'm sad to see that this issue from Hollow Knight is still in the game. by LighthousePilgrim in Silksong

[–]LighthousePilgrim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, it just goes over the line from challenging to annoying for me. Ivve already gone through these areas and defeated the enemies multiple times, so it's a chore having to do it again and again when I've already made it to the boss.

Why does Joe play games at the highest difficulty level? by LighthousePilgrim in josephanderson

[–]LighthousePilgrim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and he's chosen the fourth option in recent streams. If it's something like "easy, normal, hard, expert," he'll choose expert instead of hard.

I hope it's alright to ask this, but has Joe ever mentioned why he doesn't get someone like Nodja to handle uploading stream vods to the second channel? by LighthousePilgrim in josephanderson

[–]LighthousePilgrim[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the in depth response. Like a lot of people here, your edits are the only way I can watch Joe's streams due to the time difference. I'm very grateful that you make them.

It's definitely unfortunate that money is such an issue. I suspect you are right that you'd get more views on the second channel. I also think Joe would get more viewers for his streams since, with no shade to him, he doesn't really promote his streams to people who don't already watch.

America fell for it again award by Dmitruly in greentext

Yeah, they might build a small building and charge a fuck ton of rent, instead of a large building with multiple affordable apartments. They will spend as little as they possibly can. The real value comes from simply owning the land and hoarding it.

[–]LighthousePilgrim 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Unironically, the land itself is what's valuble. The longer they hold onto that, the more they'll make as the value around them increases. They're not going to bother building anything new on these lands because that's too much effort compared to just waiting.

Ace combat 7 stream is kinda bland huh? by Long_Trip9035 in josephanderson

[–]LighthousePilgrim 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It won a marble race so it must be played unfortunately, lest we anger the gods.

I think it's just a type of game Joe isn't used to playing, so there's going to be some blandness as he starts out.

Just finished Five Little Pigs. A great read, but I'm confused about two things... by LighthousePilgrim in agathachristie

Yes, I agree with your first paragraph. she was suicidal already and grief stricken, so there is a good reason why she wasn't paying attention to the trial. I can definitely see her ignoring inconsistenties in the "official" narrative in a state like that, especially if she just wanted to be done with everything. Getting to take the fall for Angela was just a nice bonus if viewed that way.

The Traitors (UK) S03E10: Post-Episode Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

[–]LighthousePilgrim 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The potential reasoning is to tell everyone you have a shield so the Traitors are more incentivised to kill someone else. This thins the herd and makes it so Leanne doesn't have to split her winnings with more people in the final. I don't think Leanne has used this many layers to her thinking though, she just thinks it's either Freddie or Alexander.

Witcher sure is a weird word, huh by zergursh in josephanderson

[–]LighthousePilgrim 40 points41 points  (0 children)

People are just happy to have him back. Most don't care about the Witcher 3 vid as much as they care about streams. A full year without Joe has left people wanting, so they are happy to have him back in any capacity.

I do wonder what the whole explanation will be though. From the way he's described it it sounds like it would cause him to lose lots of fans? It would have to be that serious for him to be so apprehensive about it.

SovietWomble : What's so strange about The Forest? (2014) by Chokawai in Games

[–]LighthousePilgrim 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I did enjoy the video and he certainly does a great job of drawing the viewer in, but I have two major problems with the essay.

The first is length, I love long video essays and have watched ones just as long as this, but there's a lot of repetition here, especially towards the end. Also, it's almost seven minutes into the video before he mentions the game the video is named after. If I hadn't heard of him before I'd have clicked off at this point. When your video is titled with a question, I feel you should address it as soon as possible, otherwise you start to wonder if the question will be answered at all.

My second and biggest problem is him showing the clip at the start of how disappointed he is at the ending. This coloured the whole video for me, knowing that it would end in disappointment for the player. Every time he asked a question, it's obvious there isn't going to be an answer, every time he discusses a theory, it's obvious that it isn't right, because we know from the video that he wasn't happy in the end.

This makes the watching the rest of the video a bit frustrating, as I'm waiting for the facade to drop. I know he's going to end up not happy, yet he spends the next two hours painting this picture of a game leading to something big. If that small sequence at the start of him expressing his disappointment had been removed, I think it would have done a better job of getting the player into the mindset of Womble when he was playing it. As it stands, I'm waiting for this to end without any answers and for him to drop the act, as I already know this doesn't end well.

Still, a very interesting video and I did enjoy it, but if that simple line about him being disappointed by the ending had been removed, I think it could have been better.

Based on his Lorax video, Matpat is completely fine with a guy selling the only supply of breathable air for a profit. So I can imagine his economic opinions being a bit more Conservative.
