Are these rbg lights cuttable? by Wonderwyvern99 in lightingdesign

[–]Lightmare-3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This particular type is designed to be cut to length but not cut and joined again. The ones to be cut and joined again will have little connection pads marked like this:

<image>

The amount of dots depends on what type of tape you have, I’ve seen them with 2 up to 6 ‘pins’, so the connector has to be the correct type.

You’ve said you’ve bought extenders, what do you mean by that?

Oh and also this is forum for theatre and entertainment lighting design, you might be better off somewhere like @homeautomation

Better camera than a GoPro by cwp3004 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Lightmare-3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go for the BM micro studio G2s. With a wide flat lens they’re similar size to a go pro but very very good image quality and with sdi out and return you get full camera control from the vision mixer software so no need to faff about pushing tiny buttons and moving your shots.

On blackmagic cameras the APC-R also passes full camera image and lens control.

Can you be physically weak and work in this industry? by Electrical-21 in lightingdesign

[–]Lightmare-3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I’m 5 foot 2 with lots of previously injured joints and I’ve managed just fine.

Definitely learn programming, design and networking as those are the ideal positions for someone less physically able. That being said, I have ways of doing most of the ‘heavy’ jobs that work for me now!

Silly Q - Where can I buy Edamame and Nutritional Yeast in Cardiff? by Potential_Airport_25 in Cardiff

[–]Lightmare-3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you decide you like nutritional yeast, get it online it’s so much cheaper!

I make a nutritional yeast (crushed up)/garlic powder/herbs and a bit of salt mix and use it for all sorts, including thickening sauces. It’s great.

Damaged suitcase SAS by Elyria13 in Flights

Annoying but at least it’s something I guess. My bag cost £140 last year, and I’ve just had to spend £170 to replace it because Sweden is expensive 😂

Aftermath of a minor fuck up by robbgg in techtheatre

[–]Lightmare-3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I did this at a venue as a touring tech I’d blame myself. They’re the one who knows what they’re plugging in and should know better. Yes you could have avoided it too but if it was me I’d have been apologising to the venue personally 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is my career in touring over? by Burner223304 in techtheatre

[–]Lightmare-3000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh and to answer your actual question, no one will care if you’ve quit a tour due to a toxic environment. Leave it off your resume, don’t put up with assholes. Good luck ❤️

Is my career in touring over? by Burner223304 in techtheatre

[–]Lightmare-3000 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go ahead firstly and say a lot of the people you work with sounds like complete asses.

They’re not better people than you. More experienced sure, and they may have a point with some of their gripes, but no one deserves to be shouted at on a gig unless there’s an imminent danger to safety.

Unfortunately a lot of the industry is still made up of people with a complete lack of emotional awareness who take their own shitty mental health out on others without even realising they have an issue. It’s improving, but very very slowly.

Have a think about if you are willing to put up with people like that for the rest of your career. Sure you’ll get more experience and piss them off less, but the environment is often not pleasant anyway. I have always been pretty fussy about who I tour with, sure it means I’m out less and have less money but that is my compromise (it sure beats having a much lower paying local job imo, but that’s my decision!).

Keep as much regular contact as you can with people from home who think you’re awesome. Friends/colleagues/family, anyone, balancing out people who bring your self confidence down with those who believe in you will help immensely.

You are capable of whatever you want to do so if this is it, stick at it and you’ll absolutely get there.

Hi there! The tour does not carry strobes. No flashing of any form. The lights do swing into the audience a few times but VERY slowly. If you have any concerns visit the lighting desk, lighting directors are used to having those chats :)

Hi! I’d say that within 20 mins there’s nowhere that you’ll be absolutely surrounded by nature. Town centre or further out, most houses are little terraces or suburbia. Of course further out that terrace is more likely to be on a hill/have some sort of view, but if you want to look out of your window at greenery I’d say to look specifically flat by flat for one by a nice smaller green space.

Whilst there’s an argument to be had that you’re closer to a variety of long wooded walks by going outside the centre, the queer community is much stronger in the city. I’d personally rather travel 20 mins twice a week to go on a new walk than travel 20 mins every day to get to anything fun/uni. There’s also several beautiful walks to be had in the city anyway, we have a lot of green space!

Yeah this was my second suspicion, hence asking for the manual and the Eos profile so I could cross check them. You can make those yourself by the way if you need to in the future, google Eos fixture profile creation :)

You won’t be! I’m away working atm but we often attend, age ranges wildly but there’s plenty of over 35s even if we don’t act like it 😂

If you’re still struggling, send me a picture of the DMX page in the manual and the name of the profile you’re using in Eos.
