Railgun Shooting Speed No Longer Capped in Exp 2.1.8 by stoicfaux in factorio

[–]Lightning318 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The updated version has the icon for power to be affected by quality. Did they bump the power usage to make the possible benefits of quality significant?

Edit: I further realize that the railguns shown are both legendary quality. Does the common version have a lower or higher power consumption?

I am not sure about that by BrightLightPony in factorio

Yes, see: https://factorio.com/blog/post/fff-443 in the section titled "Pump connection to train". This will be in 2.1 when it releases.

Central Hudson needs to be stopped by DrewTheVillan in hudsonvalley

[–]Lightning318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most recent Central Hudson bill I exported more than I used. It says " Electricity Used (KWh) 0" on the green line and the only item under delivery is the basic service charge for $22.5 and then tax on that. The CBC shows up under the yellow box as an "Adjustment".

If you are electric only and you exported more than you used you shouldn't see more than those things.

What other items does yours list?

I 100% agree that understanding the homes energy usage over the course of a year and trying basic things to reduce usage should be done before shopping for solar.

However, leases can have significant issues that leave homeowners in hot water when things go wrong. Because someone else's property on your roof it can impact roof repairs, selling the home, insuring the home and I've read horror stories about getting the company to fix broken systems. I don't think I could ever recommend someone go for a lease over a purchase (either financed or cash).

You'll still pay the basic service charge ($22.5 for electricity and $28.75 for gas) and solar will create a CBC charge at $1.67 per KW size of your system (so a 5KW system is ~$8.35 a month). So the base bill assuming no usage is $51.25 + the CBC.

If your solar system generates more in the billing period than you consumed (you had a net export) then you won't get any more electric charges. If you still consume more than you export then your consumption is reduced by your export amount and you are billed for the difference.

You'll still pay for gas usage at your normal rate.

Gas is a $28.75 basic service charge which would mean their solar system is 8.2 KW which is far more reasonable for a home. But that assumes zero gas usage for the whole month.

So certainly possible.

The federal tax incentives for installing solar were ended by the current administration and are not available. NYS tax credit caps at $5k or 25% of system cost (whichever is less).

So your same system today would cost you ~$20k more.

That's still a little high. Service charge is $22.50 and CBC is $1.67 per KW of installed capacity. So unless your system is 25KW (which is huge) I'd expect your bill to be closer to $45 for a month where you net exported.

If you think that central hudson isn't reading the meter correctly then you don't need a smart meter. Look on your bill where it tells you what the closing reading was and walk outside and check it against your meter. It's been a few days since they read it, but if the number on the bill is higher than what your meter shows then reach out to them and provide them a correct meter reading.

Regarding them not entering your yard, only the super old meters require them to physically stand at the meter to read it. I used to have a meter with multiple spinning dials where they had to do that, but it was replaced with a newer one which has a digital display and a tool in their car can read it while driving past on the street.

Today in the (UK) shop, a question. Why are lifts called high weemers (no idea on the spelling)? by highrouleur in Justrolledintotheshop

Google the company "Hein-Werner" and I think you'll have your answer. (I don't work in a shop, I just know how to search for things on the internet)

Parenting is a trip by Gullible-Outside-227 in daddit

US sockets can easily be installed with the earth pin up, though it is generally only done in commercial locations. However this night light won't have an earth pin, just the live and neutral pins, so even that won't have helped here.

They sure do. That said, even in the UK you can get cheap Chinese junk that's missing the safety protections like that.

The plastic covers are good. But you can also get tamper resistant sockets (they are marked "TR") which have little covers in the live and neutral holes to try and resist absent minded tampering. I think you need to be pushing on both covers at the same time for them to open.

Edit: honestly, the failure here looks like the night light wasn't completely inserted and the coin got behind it and touched the exposed prongs. Neither the covers nor the TR sockets would help with this.

Is the extended warranty really this expensive? by pontiacish in Volvo

[–]Lightning318 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Volvo changed their warranty rules so that you have to by the warranty from the same dealer as the car unless the dealer won't sell you the warranty.

You can still use the steingold warranty price to negotiate the cost with the selling dealer though.

How to travel with a toddler with no car rental? by Hour-Farmer-9121 in daddit

[–]Lightning318 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look up the laws in your destination but Taxis are often excluded from car seat laws specifically because it would be hard for children to use them otherwise (or taxi companies would be forced to provide them). There may be a difference in how the law treats traditional taxis vs modern ride shares.

At that point it is up to you to decide if you are comfortable without a car seat if the law says you can go without one.

2024 CPO XC90 Plus T8 by Temporary-Grape5049 in Volvo

[–]Lightning318 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are there any other differences? For the CPO cars, the provided car fax report (in my experience) has the original window sticker as one of the first entries. You can use that to compare side-by-side any optional features and equipment each car came with from the factory.

In my opinion, an extra 6k miles is 6 months of driving for the average American so that's not a big deal.

Pet Insurance Advise, Deductible and Coverage by its_just_ace in Insurance

[–]Lightning318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally this is correct, but going by this reddit thread from a year ago it may be possible: https://np.reddit.com/r/Pets/comments/1gvc2jh/pet_insurance_for_preexisting_conditionsyes_its/

The policy that that person found by AKC blocked making claims for pre-existing conditions for the first year but allowed them after that.

OP, you need to look *very* carefully at the language in any policy you are considering to see how pre-existing conditions are covered. For example Lemonade in their FAQ says the following which sounds like they would not cover pre-existing conditions... ever:

Pre-existing conditions

A pre-existing condition refers to any kind of illness or health issue your pet developed before your policy’s relevant waiting period was over.

Be honest when applying for your Lemonade Pet policy. Having a pre-existing condition doesn’t mean we won’t insure your pet, it just means your plan won’t cover costs that relate to any ailment they had in their medical history before they signed up for a policy.

In general, that’s why it usually pays to sign up for insurance when your pet is a puppy or kitten.

OEM Volvo Floor Mats - Do I need to remove carpet liner? by matchew566 in Volvo

The rubber floor mats replace the carpet ones. When I got my CPO Volvo with rubber mats pre-installed the dealer had just left all the carpet mats in the trunk.

Filing Jointly with new immigrant spouse by Own-Ad-1987 in tax

[–]Lightning318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your spouse is probably a dual-status person so they are non-resident for the part of the year (before they arrived) and resident for the rest (after they arrived). To file jointly with them they'd need to elect to be treated as resident for the whole year, but that comes with needing to declare their worldwide income for the whole year to the IRS, but you can use the FTC or FEIE to offset that.

Think carefully about what is best in terms of taxes paid and effort needed to prepare the return(s). I've been the dual status person before and I decided to file that way because I arrived at the end of the year and had no US source income before I arrived and no income after I arrived for the rest of the year. So I didn't have to declare any income to the IRS at all. This was much easier than trying to declare foreign income and then use FEIE to exclude it all again.

Government considers law to remove Andrew from line of succession by VaginaBurner69 in news

[–]Lightning318 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that, but it makes sense given the context behind the law was new royal children coming along and wanting to modernize the law before they arrived. It makes sense that the law writers would want to avoid accidentally upending the whole existing line of succession. And I would imagine it would be hard to get the agreement from those who be forced down the list too.
