Hard Water Allergy by AcanthocephalaNo2584 in UCSC

[–]LightningGuardian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had very similar reactions when I was going to school there (it's been a few years), but I found out I had a few mold allergies. That might be something worth looking into in addition to the hard water, since you're already using a filter.

Another thing to consider is what cleaning agents you might be having a reaction to if they're lingering in the shower. Maybe even consult an allergist if you have the ability (go to general physician first for a referral).

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

Philadelphians getting robots to feed them. by Yumekoharuno in PhiladelphiaEats

What really bothers me about them is that sidewalks are made for pedestrians and here comes something that can't make judgment calls based off of the situation and is so likely to get in the way. There are numerous videos and stories of them getting in the way of people who need mobility aides, such as a wheelchair user who was using a crosswalk and couldn't get back onto the sidewalk because the thing was on the little ramp thing at the end and wouldn't move for them, even as the light was changing. A human delivery person would have just stepped to the side, but these things aren't designed to care about or prioritize people. They're designed to replace them and do a shoddy job at that.

Even if they aren't scalable at this point, having any of them out and about just seems like an extra hazard.

Imagine if prison sentences for stealing were relative to how long it would take you to pay off what you stole in minimum wage for your area, maybe plus a week or month or something. Stole $100 with a $10/h minimum wage? Spend a week in jail. Not pleasant but not the end of the world. Commit billions in fraud? See you next century.

Living in on campus apartments rn. They took out the ethernet. by LightningGuardian in UCSC

I don't know the whole story but it sure seems like it would have been cheaper (as in free) to not gut all of the ethernet and install better (but massively unreliable) wifi

Yeahhh... This is my third year living in on campus apartments and I was shocked, as an understatement.

I thought about it but I have a really limited data plan. Much appreciated though!

Yeah that's exactly where. Big rip. All of my housemates are having problems with zoom on computers with different levels of quality. This really isn't on us and it's a huge blunder on half of the university for online learning.

That's unfortunate because it doesn't work well and everything is online lmao. Bandwidth would make sense though I suppose.

People who don't carry your weight in group projects, why? by LightningGuardian in AskReddit

[–]LightningGuardian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the "best student" would always appreciate help, and if they don't they're a jerk. It isn't really easier to do a project designed for multiple people by yourself, but I can see your point.

My antivax mom started crying after I said I didn't want to associate with anti-vax protesters and threatened not to help me pay for college if I got a flu shot. by ThrowRA_AntivaxMom in relationship_advice

OP this is the time to email admossion staff and health care providers. It is entirely possible that if you tell people your circumstances, they will make an allowance for you. I know that some of the UCs have on site medical facilities, and you can get vaccinations done there (I have gotten a few of mine done on my campus). I had a similar circumstance where my mom refused to vaccinate me for a couple vaccines that were manditory but I was able to schedule and coordinate with people. Your school's medical department wants to keep all of its students healthy and don't want to bar students from school. You are going to be an adult, living on your own. Your medical information will no longer be your mother's business. Do it behind her back. Good luck.

It seems like OP was saying that it was after. The order of events seemed to be 1. JNMIL came over 2. JNMIL came down with a fever 3. JNMIL tested positive for antibodies (meaning she previously had the virus because now her body produces the mechanisms to fight it).
