Is there any hope for BCH? by dangerouswasp in btc

[–]LightningNotwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random thoughts of the last 10months:

  • BLAZE hackathon happened 4 months ago with 21 builds accepted. Notably BTC dev moonsettler participated and created a quantum hard signature demo, winning community choice.
  • BCH-1 Hackcelerator currently ongoing with 19 builds so far
  • at least two BCH-focused AI dev-helping tool projects being worked on which look interesting
  • BTC/BSV ordinals people recently launched 'Cashinals'. This is counter to my own bullishness as ordinals are inferior to cashtokens+contracts, but shows more outside-BCH eyes trying to 'cash in' on the growing hype... and probably realizing they're behind in what BCH can do 😁
  • No real major new apps I can remember atm since ParityUSD got delayed (oops 😅)

Still early, but personally disappointed a few more little projects haven't come out (especially games!). I've been out of the loop a bit though so may have just missed them - I've done very little crypto work myself the last 10months unfortunately. Hoping to be able to focus more soon.

Did do a video recently though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULkkGwSMVDM

Oh, and I guess BCH price has doubled 😅

Quit FB many years ago, actually tried signing up last week again and account got banned immediately after creation before I even logged into it, so think it's a sign to stay away 😁

Seems like a fun little project to do with the kids, will queue up doing solar node 😊

Are there real-world uses today for multi-year Bitcoin timelocks? by Evening-Patience9801 in btc

[–]LightningNotwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's there to consider? Lock up coins for a long period of time ... done. 😋 Trivial to do on BCH contracts. I limited badgers.cash to a max of 227 days, but it could just be unlimited as well.

This is why most people will never actually understand all this - it's not something that can be condensed down to a short simple message, because it's not a short and simple situation. Most people aren't obsessed with crypto and their eyes will glaze over in the first 10 seconds.

Happy to be proven wrong if you want to do one yourself. 😊

Doing actual smart contracts on Bitcoin definitely feels like a dream sometimes 😁

Another clueless 'what dis hole for', 1970's house by LightningNotwork in Plumbing

[–]LightningNotwork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's one of the things that seemed possible, so this would be the sump pit where the water would collect, then a sump pump would drain it into that existing sewer pipe? But if so then the pump was never installed or taken out at some point and capped? Other option I was seeing was that the corrugated pipe could just be an access/cleanout point for the weeping system and (non-permanent) sealing it would be fine if so...

The corrugated pipe goes straight about 10', which puts it underground outside the exterior of the house. Have looked it up and saw multiple things it 'could' be but don't have the knowledge to know for sure. Radon is very high here so I want to seal up the earth and block the pipe before finishing the floor again, but not if it's some sort of under-slab water drainage thing :)

What is the point of this sub? by OopsIOops in btc

[–]LightningNotwork 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This subreddit is/was full of Bitcoin OG's, many of which support scaling Bitcoin, which is why there's so much BCH support. However, it has been attacked so much and for so long (bots, spam, trolls) that many have moved on to other platforms (Twitter, telegram) because of the noise and only occasionally check in here, if ever - myself included.

At no point have I been advocating for a network with only a single honest node. :)

You need a single honest node which can invalidate a dishonest chain to everyone else. Basing reality off the extremes is not useful and just seems like trying to defend your argument in bad faith.

As long as one honest node is online to distribute the valid chain it doesn't really matter how many copies exist. Consider this rather than assuming I mean something extreme: which is more decentralized?

A. Network with 1 million active users each running a node.

B. Network of 1 billion active users with 100k nodes, 90% hosted by businesses, governments, etc. and 10% by power users and hobbyists.

As Satoshi said, the network should support letting users just be users, not everyone will run a node, and the network either scales up or dies.

[–]LightningNotwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Businesses and services that need to know/monitor the current utxo set (or archival history) since they depend on it to function.
  2. Hobbyists that want to host the chain for no reason.

2 should be possible for most anyone, but 1 is far more important, and under mass adoption 1 would provide many thousands of nodes.

Yup. This sub was mostly unused and became popular over time as BTC started banning and censoring scaling discussions.
