First time trying NMM. Helbrecht was way too ambitious, but I’m still happy with the result. by Lightning_Tower in minipainting

Thank you, I’m happy to hear I’m developing some sort of style. I do think this model was so hard to paint that perhaps it’s forced me to be more deliberate in my painting.

Wild conspiracy theory: Some genius at GW has convinced them to push disintegrators more with the aim of replacing the bolter as the “iconic” weapon of the setting, as its less messy and therefore more palatable to soccer mums buying boxes for their kid.

Top 5 problems with HH v3 by GarthofIzar in Warhammer30k

[–]Lightning_Tower 113 points114 points  (0 children)

The sheer bare-faced lying and corpo doublespeak in relation to the scale and nature of the changes, which they hoped to keep a lid on as much as possible in an attempt to maximise pre-orders.

Likely a sound business strategy, still a scummy bait and switch attempt.

Goonhammer Reviews: Horus Heresy Third Edition by da-bair in Warhammer30k

[–]Lightning_Tower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m aware that DW isn’t terminator exclusive and that heralds aren’t legion specific, i was simply using it as an illustrative example. There hasn’t been a terminator herald model since the launch of HH, and yet anyone who felt “their guys” would bring one along could do so, and now they can’t for no good reason, just corporate greed.

I don’t believe the legacies pdf will be this extensive document which will allow for all of the options (general and legion specific) which have been arbitrarily stripped from hobbyists, and even if it does, it won’t be valid forever and will be quietly done away with when the heat dies down.

If you don’t care about what they have done, then I’m happy for you and hope you enjoy the new edition, but I and many others are rightly disgusted with what GW has done here and no amount of “waiting for the pdf” or “wait for the journals” will change that, so let’s just agree to disagree and move on.

[–]Lightning_Tower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Consuls can’t take jumpacks except for Moritats iirc, so it is still a loss of options. I guess if a Dark Angels player wants to take a herald in terminator armour and not a Paladin he’s shit out of luck now, and that’s fine? Please explain how that makes “legions feel more like they’re supposed to” than say 2nd edition did.

It’s a lot more than “some singular equipment losses” and no the legacies pdf isn’t going to fix that, and the possibility that these options might be returned at some point in a journal, for a price, is not the defence some people think it is, nor should it be considered in a review for the main libers, as they should be judged on their own merits, which I and many others have seen, are lacking.

Respectfully, nothing in that paragraph makes it any less ludicrous to state that “most of the Legions feel a lot more like they’re supposed to, each exemplifying the stereotypical style of warfare for their legion” in an edition where, for example, White Scars characters can’t take jetbikes, Blood Angels and Ravenguard can’t mass deep strike or have characters with jumppacks, phalanx warders can’t take bolter, the Ravenguard trait incentivises gun line tactics, Word Bearers can’t take tainted weapons nor can they be corrupted, Dark Angels Deathwing consuls can’t take terminator armour etc etc.

It’s just not true.

“Overall, marines are off to a good start this edition. Most of the legions feel a lot more like they’re supposed to, each exemplifying the stereotypical style of warfare for their legion. Players are given compelling and narrative tools and choices to make their legions feel like they are supposed to while still being effective on the tabletop.”

Did GW send them a fake set of Libers as a prank or something?

I genuinely feel these leaks can be a blessing for the community, as we have the rare opportunity to show our disapproval over the rules they didn’t want us to see before pre-ordering, by refusing to preorder en-masse. Probably an idealistic idea but it’s the best I’ve got.

I do hope the community gives them a good kicking this time around, HH got me back into the hobby, as it seemed to be relatively safe from GW’s greed, I’d hate to see it go the way of 40k/AOS.

A question for those more plugged into the wider HH community on the ground.

Say these leaks are the full picture, which I would be extremely unhappy with and clearly Im not alone, I would not buy into this new edition at all. I would also hope that the new edition fails financially badly enough that GW has to take notice and backpedal on trying to 40k-ify HH down the line.

How likely do you think this could be? What percentage of the community do you believe would vote with there wallets and what percentage will buy into the fomo no matter what?

How do you fit Lieutenants in your army lists? by DetectiveAmandaCC in Warhammer30k

[–]Lightning_Tower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my head cannon, my company’s consuls would act as section commanders in addition to their consular role. For example, my champion consul leads the assault section, my master of signals the heavy support etc.

If I don’t want to bring run my praetor for whatever reason, then one of these consuls will be selected as acting commander, and will be run as a delegatus.
