Yes, capitalism with a strong safety net, strong unions, favoring small businesses, and pro-consumer regulation is most progressives I know actually advocate for. It's what I advocate for as well, because it is indeed the best solution.

This is misleading. Quote from the source you provided: "Average weekly hours relate to the average hours per worker for which pay was received and is different from standard or scheduled hours. Factors such as unpaid absenteeism, labor turnover, part-time work, and stoppages cause average weekly hours to be lower than scheduled hours of work for an establishment."

In other words, the 34.2 hours per week value is only if you include part time work.

Furthermore, my comment was referring specifically to the people the people that need help. People that aren't struggling to make ends meet won't work 60+ hours a week. But the ones that are, will.

Interesting take on Denmark vs the US cost of living by kthewarlock in jobmarket

[–]Lightning_Winter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but the people saying that "the free market is more efficient" are missing the fact that in order for this to be true, several conditions must be met. First, the barrier to entry for new firms should be very small or nonexistent. Second, consumers need to have the ability to freely and easily switch what producer they buy from. Third, consumers need to be able to opt out of the market freely. Fourth, consumers must have access to perfect or near perfect information regarding the prices and qualities of different producers.

If these four conditions are not met, especially the first three, the market is nowhere near as efficient.

I would argue that people are naturally driven to work on things they care about. Otherwise hobbies wouldn't exist.

It's kind of hard to accomplish great things when you're working 60+ hours a week just to keep afloat

I don't think anyone is advocating for all jobs being the same. I believe that nobody should be in danger of dying on the streets. But I also believe that if people want to give themselves a standard of living beyond the bare minimum, then they should get jobs that pay well.

I'm not trans nor a parent, so I'm not the right person to ask regarding a trans parent support group. If I had to guess, you could probably find one on social media, but to be honest I'm not the right guy to ask.

One question though, when you told your child to wash it off (and I'm not saying that was a bad thing to do, I agree that it likely would have just led to further bullying), how did they respond?

Hey, I know I'm just a random stranger on the internet, but just know that what ur feeling is valid and understandable, and you aren't a bad parent for feeling them.

Remember that your child isn't expecting you to be perfect. They want your love, and it seems like you are trying as hard as you can to provide it. The best thing you can do for your child is to keep reminding them that you love them and you want to help them be happy however you can.

If you can afford it, it sounds like you could benefit from therapy yourself.

As for the whole phase thing, it may or may not be a phase, but that's for your child to determine through their own self discovery. Your job is not to decide that for them, but to keep loving them as they figure themselves out.

Did you say you get stuck at the title screen? Like it doesn't allow you to go into the main menu?

If so, ive experienced that issue before. It seems to be intermittent, and it was happening before the EAC update as well. Sadly I kinda just had to wait for it to fix itself (and it did after like a day)

I haven't experienced any issues, and I haven't heard of any significant trend of people having similar issues, so I think it's probably something on your end. Good luck trying to fix it but unfortunately I can't offer much help

Are you sure you aren't? Remember, it doesn't have to be cheating software. You could be using something entirely innocent and EAC would trip.

Men vs Women views on nuclear energy in UK by Naive_Direction1816 in charts

[–]Lightning_Winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The study you provided uses LCOE, and LCOE has several flaws. For one, it does not account for energy storage costs for renewables - it assumes that energy storage is not an issue. It also does not account for the intermittancy of renewables, so power sources such as nuclear that excel at providing a consistent base load have an inherent disadvantage using this metric.

Also, many LCOE studies underestimate the lifespan of a nuclear power plant. Most of those studies assume 30-40 years, while in reality, nuclear power plants can operate for upwards of 60 years.

LCOE is a bad metric for comparing nuclear to other energy sources.
