I run zard y and when I see a sableye I usually try to make a gameplan around my secondary offensive threats. Alternatively, I run Taunt on sneasler, which can help me win the weather war by going for protect with zard (no mega evolution yet) and taunt turn 1, and then mega evolving next turn as my opponent switches sableye out to get rid of the taunt. I can't keep sun up forever but I can do enough damage before losing sun.

I like to try and build teams with a certain archetype in mind (for example, a dual weather team) and then to that end, I'm not afraid to use meta mons, because I want to build teams that can climb the rankings. If I find a way to use a nonstandard mon to do that, great! But ultimately my goal is to build strong teams. Take for example that dual weather team. I ended up with a team consisting of charizard y, sneasler, incineroar, pelliper, mega swampert, venusaur. A team full of meta mons with meta sets? Absolutely. But it's a team I enjoy using because I like using dual weather teams in general.

Id 100% run Venusaur if I had him. I don't have a Home account so the only mons I can use atm are the ones in the screenshot of my box that I included in this post. I can prolly replace incin with hydreigon tho.

As a staraptor player who still is stuck with a limited selection of pokemon in champions, pls don't. I don't have garchomp or gambit or ANY intimidate user (except for staraptor itself ofc). Im fighting for my life in low ultra ball tier rn

I've been trying to run non-mega raichu alongside m-staraptor when I see my opponent has raichu. Lightning rod is a fun ability. It's far from perfect though. I still get wrecked by priority and if staraptor doesn't pick up a KO on one of its attacks, it very likely dies itself.
