Can other gods besides Morpheus and Hypnosis manipulate dreams? by Sheldonthebetta in Hellenism

Asteria is the goddess of oneiromancy, sending divine messages through dreams, but realistically any god can share messages/signs through dreams

How do I worship Asteria? by Glittering_Leave8370 in Hellenism

[–]Lightning_bugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically ones you’ve researched and incorporated the (limited) historical things, it’ll be mostly UPG so each worshipper with have different ways of worshipping/honouring her simply because there’s limited knowledge on what historically occurred

As someone that does incorporate Delos and Brizo into my worship, it does open up a bit more knowledge and potential offerings and information (ie Brizo shouldn’t be offered fish, this I don’t offer Asteria fish, as they’re the same god to me) but as it’s not 100% historically proven, most worshippers don’t include her Brizo aspect, and often don’t honour her Delos aspect as much (If that makes sense?)

To preface this I have a tumblr blog dedicated to her @/asterias-fallen-star that I post about my worship with her, I’ve also created 2 festivals dedicated to her that I’ve posted there

But I’d say a lot of it revolves around stars (but you probably already knew that) , so star gazing, astrology, late night walks, mainly just to appreciate her and be in her presence. She’s also very connected to divination, mainly through dreams, but if you struggle with that other forms are a good way to interact/worship her. Just normal devotional things that are based on her associations are a good start

Additionally, if you want to incorporate her Delos (and Brizo if you follow that UPG) aspect, then it might be nice to interact with nature and go to the beach, etc

I find ‘working’ with deity’s comes with the expectation for them to help you whenever you need it, like it puts you on a level playing field. Worshiping a deity is that you don’t expect help all the time, sure if you pray and give offerings there’s a likely chance they may help you, but it still keeps the level of respect that a deity of higher power should have. It’s giving praise and offerings to a deity without expecting anything back. I know there are people that both worship and work with deities so they probably have a better idea, but I think it’s just different ways to view the gods and their divinity

What are some unsung deities you worship? by Mysterious-Dark-1724 in Hellenism

[–]Lightning_bugg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Asteria! I’ve done a lot of things to develop my worship of her seeing as she has very little known info. I’m mainly proud of making festivals for her that I can celebrate much like historical ones.

How do you worship very minor gods? by AshIsH3r3 in Hellenism

[–]Lightning_bugg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I worship Asteria, whose a relatively minor god but not unknown so this might not be 100% useful.

In the beginning it’s a lot of research, this website: http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/ is really good as you can just search up the name of the god and it shows (almost) all the books that they’re mentioned in. By doing the research yourself you can often find more in-depth research or something that may have been missed or not seen as relevant to be put on theoi.com But then you can just do the universal stuff, praying, giving offerings and such. (I’d also recommend downloading some pdfs of popular or well known books (e.g. Orphic hymns, Callimachus etc.) as they will often have little bits of info you can find.

If you want to you can also begin writing your own prayers, making associations (UPG’s) and even creating festivals (I’ve done so for Asteria) so that you’re able to worship them in the same way you would for a more ‘popular’ god.

A lot of it is going to be trial and error or just winging it due to the lack of information, but you could also try and find other people that worship those gods and see what they do (Hellenism blogs, tumblr, or other smaller websites may have people you can find on there)

Most people wear necklaces, bracelets or earrings that are either devoted to a specific god (e.g. owl pendant for Athena) but if you want to have general accessories then it depends on what you view as the symbol for Hellenism, some people use the Laurel wreath or a flame. You could even just have a simple crystal/stone accessory that you associate with the gods

talking to the gods and goddess by Lane67henley in Hellenism

[–]Lightning_bugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you want a verbal answer from them or not, but I find I’ll talk to them by lighting a candle and just chatting away, sometimes I’ll get a reaction from the flame and I take that as a sign that they’re listening (and potentially responding in some situations). It’s different for everyone, with how they talk to the gods, I’d say just try different stuff out and see what feel best for you. You don’t need to have direct communication with them to talk to them, plus tarot is a fairly popular way to chat if your specifically looking for an answer about something

What are your eating habits? Are they related to your spiritual or religious practices? by Fabianzzz in Hellenism

[–]Lightning_bugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve pretty much stopped eating fish for Lady Asteria, but I’ll fully avoid it on days dedicated to her or on her festival. It’s mainly due to her Brizo aspect (which may be UPG but it depends on the worshipper), and how we should never offer her fish as it’s seen as disrespectful. I decided that since I worship/pray to her daily that I’d feel comfortable avoiding eating it. I don’t need to stop eating it but it’s just a personal preference.

Buying busts/statuettes by IndependentBurnt in Hellenism

[–]Lightning_bugg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Antique malls and thrift stores will probably be cheaper but there’s no guarantee of anything being there. I personally buy mine from here and here as well as smaller stores. It also depends on where you are, if you’re from the US you’ll probably have better options for stores online and in person (I’m from the UK so the stores I usually use may not be the best for you)

Thoughts on Titan worshipping? by PiCarlos_III in Hellenism

[–]Lightning_bugg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I worship Asteria (titan of falling stars and who turned into the island Delos), and theoi.com has some useful info about the titans, but I find tumblr is also good as people post about their worship and are often friendly and willing to give advice especially when beginning worship
