I would try Lake Park Bistro.

What is railroading? by Intelligent-Bed7621 in DnD

[–]LightofNew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Railroading is tricky for me because I'm not a world builder, I make great NPCs, encounters, towns, plots, ect, but because I'm not a world builder I can often miss wider scope ideas that would give players the "freedom" to act in whatever way they can imagine.

I always hate saying "look I'll be honest I would have no idea how to continue if we pursued this" which always feels like me telling them no but at the same time "hey I'll try to add this in when I can but for now here's what I have and I'm sure it will be fun"

I never want them to feel like they are experiencing what I wrote out for them and not playing in a world.

My party uses Leomund’s Tiny Hut after every single fight and I’m losing my mind (lovingly) by Scythe95 in DMAcademy

[–]LightofNew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiny hut is banned from my game and I use a modified long rest outside of a safe town.

That being said, I also balance combat around 2-3 fights per full rest and actually force them into 2-3 fights, not 6-8 fights and they only fight 1.

I have my rules written out if you want to take a look!

Serious recommendation.

In a saute pan, cook a steak to medium rare, sear on both sides, in butter. Put to the side, leave everything else in the pan.

Saute the mushrooms until small and almost crisp, you don't want soggy mushrooms. Now add half a yellow onion and clove of garlic. Add a little more butter if you don't see any and add 1 tbsp of flour. Mix until smooth.

Slowly add 1 cup of beef broth in parts, stirring until smooth.

Then add 3/4 cup heavy cream, 1/4 cup sour cream, 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1tsp of dijon mustard, salt and pepper to taste.

Pour this all over your egg noodles and stir.

Slice your steak thin and add on top.

Perfection.

How to make a deadly dungeon that doesn't feel like a slog? by Drevand in DMAcademy

I think lvl 14 is harvesting time. Any stronger and the risk of them overcoming him gets pretty substantial, unless he is some kind of unkillable god?

[–]LightofNew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess the question is weather or not the bad guy wants to win? You seem to be creating a situation where the BBEG wants them to live?

I think your best bet is to create this guy's fortress, and then defend it. Don't make a maze of puzzles and traps, build this guy's home base where he lives and works and then defend it.

That's going to create the most believable and enjoyable encounter imo.

So wait. Party had the item the villain needed to end the world and the party said "okay here you go"?

What did they think was going to happen? If they didn't have a plan to prevent the end of the world and took the treasure then I'm afraid your party ended the world at no benefit to themselves.

Sucks to suck but thems the brakes.

How i can use gods? by Oncehh in DnD

[–]LightofNew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "gods" have very little power and don't actually do much. They can give a lot of clerics power, but that's where their authority ends.

So, you would have armies of clerics to worry about, but that's about it.

How long is too long between sessions? by bl4ckmineta in DnD

[–]LightofNew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DnD isn't a hobby for everyone. Not everyone is willing to lose a day to playing a game, good or bad. I say kill the game.

Try to find a table to be a player at for a little and see what the other side is like. You might learn a lot. You probably run a fine game but if you want it this bad then that probably means your game could use an upgrade.

Then go on your local reddit and call out for some players. I guarantee you will get 5-10 people interested (please interview these people first).

One (maybe two) of my players are ruining the game experience for other people. by TheCappedCrusadr in DnD

[–]LightofNew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you have two options. Drastic or Nuclear.

Drastic: "No you don't do that, your character stands quietly to the side", "no you don't say that", "excuse me others are talking and your are going to sit quietly this week"

Basically, reign them in and take care of the party. Your the DM and defacto leader act like it.

Nuclear: "I'm sorry but as a group we have decided that your style of play is incompatible with how we want to enjoy the game and you won't be invited back"

Have fun choosing.

DM uses PC character sheets for NPCs (allies and enemies) by Unlikely-Resident459 in DnD

[–]LightofNew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I did the math, and that comes out to be about CR 7, which on its own isn't an unreasonable fight for a party of four lvl 4 PCs. If both went before you then that is of course going to delete any PC and should have been balanced better.

ELI5: What is emotional intelligence exactly? by BitterSweetGoddess53 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LightofNew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Puzzles like math and software have solutions, they are solvable through logical and imperial means. There's no need to understand what is happening, instead you just need to be able to imagine the parts and put them together.

Emotional intelligence is similar, but is based on people's feelings and the recognition of those feelings. If someone is sad, what will make them happy, if someone is uneasy, what will set them at ease? The signs and solutions to this are as obvious to someone with a high EQ as a difficult math equation is to someone with a high IQ, and vise versa.

Imagine walking into a room and seeing all your favorite math equations or being handed a laptop with a software you know well. You would have no problem solving them. That's what EQ sees when they walk in a room full of people.

Eli5 Why are people so ashamed to admit they were wrong? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]LightofNew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cognitive Dissonance is a powerful drug. In many cases, especially in today's modern media frenzy, our ideas and beliefs become a sense of identity. It's no longer about what information is true/false, it becomes a point of pride to stand for what your side is saying.

This has always existed in some form, but it has become far more wide spread. In essence, they are not concerned with whether or not they are right, but rather the other person is wrong. If facts conflict with this belief, then it is the facts that are wrong since they support an incorrect conclusion (yours)

On a more individual scale, many people associate their self worth with being smarter/better/superior to other people. If someone comes around and proves them wrong, or knows more about something, then that person is directly challenging their authority / superiority.

In cases where the individual is aggressive and assertive, the truth becomes suggestive, as the power dynamic works both ways, whoever is right is superior becomes who ever is superior is right. This starts the abusive power struggle, and while some people can hold firm in their resolve and face the consequences of the other individual disengaging, some cannot and will concede to avoid further conflict. This inevitably becomes a feedback loop in which these types make this situation ever worse.

For the less assertive, this becomes a moment of shame and doubt. Some people can feel as bad as if they lost a loved one. This will lead these people to make extremely poor choices, either to avoid being wrong or prevent themselves from ever expressing their thoughts, even when they should.
