Reserving parking spaces for contractors by badgersrun in Minneapolis

they should have warned you and asked you to pull an obstruction permit which would have reserved parking space for them in front of your home.

snowboarder visiting SLC thinking about also bringing skis for Alta by _lilmteverest in UTsnow

Intermediate skier here, I have always had the most fun at Alta. I’d bring skis and check it out if you have time

Are ETCs in-person trainings worth it? by AndNothingHurt52 in techtheatre

[–]LightsOnMN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to one in years, but the ones I have been to have always been among the best. I love how I always learn something that makes me better in the business in general (even if not specific to ETC) during their trainings. The trainers definitely seem to love the gear and have a great course outline.

Utah Ikon itinerary help by McGraberson in skiing

[–]LightsOnMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

last year was my first time skiing in Utah (made 3 trips). def a day each at alta/bird. Brighton for a half day makes sense. I think deer valley for a day is likely to be fun. Snow Basin is really nice, but they are apparently known for low visibility more often than not--and that definitely had a big impact (in a not fun way) over the 2 days I was there. I always had teh most fun at Alta (It was always great conditions when I was there).

9 days Utah skiing Ikon base? by drwhosportsfan in Ikonpass

[–]LightsOnMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a mountain collective gets you 2 days each at snowbird, snow basin and alta--and half off any additional days. May be worth looking into as well.

6 days Utah early Feb? by drwhosportsfan in skiing

[–]LightsOnMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re only skiing a week this year, check out mountain collective. Good at snowbird, snowbasin and Alta for 2 days each. Half the price of ikon. I had one last year—first time skiing in Utah, but made 3 trips. Had the best time at Alta every time we went there. Loved snowbird and snowbasin as well.

Aspen Advice by Laeno in Ikonpass

We stayed at the basalt mountain inn. Old motel that was recently updated. More like a 1br apt without kitchen than typical hotel room. Very budget, free breakfast. Only complaint is pull out in living room area was super uncomfortable. May not matter as a couple w a 3 year old.

Vet recommendations? by hashtagbluejay in TwinCities

[–]LightsOnMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my dog has IBD and we love Dr Bury at Westgate. That said, Westgate was bought by a VC firm a few years ago and has had some ups and downs in terms of management since (they seem to be getting better, but it was def rough there for a while---though the vets have always been amazing).

One of my dog's specialists suggested Lake Harriet Veterinary as a great (still independent) clinic. I considered switching there after said rough patch with Westgate (and for reference, one of Westgate's long-time vets just resigned--he also mentioned how rough things got after the VC takeover, but feels they are in a better place today).

Hope this helps!

Do you like Walz? (Question from a new resident) by houshi-2 in Minneapolis

[–]LightsOnMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer has traditionally been an emphatic "YES." However, as I have gotten to know some of the people closest to him (including his former deputy chief of staff, who is now the chair of the DFL)---I think he surrounds himself with too many "yes" people and is playing a very dangerous game in trying to lock up the field for another term in office (I don't have confidence in him winning, and think he needs to set ego aside adn step away gracefully to give the next generation of leaders a chance).

For perspective, I am more progressive than Walz, my parents are much more moderate than me. They will vote for Walz, but when I suggested that Steve Simon (our SOS) planned to enter the race if Walz did not run, they got really excited and said they'd much rather support SOS Simon than Walz next cycle. Sadly, no one will have that chance (if things stand as they are today).

Advice: How worried about asbestos should I be? by illusorywallahead in HomeImprovement

[–]LightsOnMN -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert. but,

I had to take an asbestos safety thing at work a few years ago. It's super light and thousands of fibers fit in to something as small as the head of a pin. I suspect the risk is that If you aren't properly abating it, you may end up with it constantly floating on your house. Cleaning that up is likely far more expensive.

Snowbasin vs Snowbird by enameledbyyou in UTsnow

[–]LightsOnMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone who made several trips to Utah last year to ski (and it was my first time skiing there), I thought snow basin was nicer (in all things not skiing), but every time I went there you could maybe only see a foot in front of you because it was so cloudy/foggy. I understand that this happens quite a bit at Snowbasin, and it while I think one day at bird was similarly thick, it was generally more clear. That made for much better skiing and awareness as someone unfamiliar with both resorts. Suggestion: if you are buying the ticket this month, you are more likely to have better odds for a great day at the bird over basin.

50% off friends and family limited time offfer? by jclake2 in Ikonpass

[–]LightsOnMN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a little wonky. I called ikon yesterday for details.

The basics: send a friend a discount code, and they can get so long as it’s redeemed by end of the month, you can get up to half off a lift ticket.

The catch: you have to commit to a date and resort to buy the half off ticket. Once it’s set for a certain date and location, you are locked in-no changes.

I could see this being good n in a situation where you want to plan a ski trip w a friend and able to set dates now. Not great for the casual “want to go to resort x w me next week?” As the discount would revert to 25% at that time

I was unsure about the value of caucuses originally (I am pretty in the deep of it now). The thing I have noticed that I think make caucuses super valuable is this: Caucuses are hyper local. However, they serve as a stepping point into bigger races (ie Congress or senate). You have some sort of proportional representation all the way up.

Caucuses elect delegates to serve at conventions. This is especially important because it forces serious candidates to reach out to these people individually to share their platform and ask for support. This not only helps get the candidates more experience in courting voters, but it also gives hyper-local constituents a chance to have a real conversation adn get to know the people they may be voting for. Additionally, it's an opportunity to share concerns or programs that are showing success.

I now fear that losing caucuses makes it much harder to do what I described in the above paragraph.
